I had this question before and im wondering if carrier pilots and people who are starting to get one could tell me the advantages, desvantages of a carrier (the tier 1), why are they so popular among Eve players these days that are turning them into a 'new battleship1?

They are, unlike dreadnaughts, able to fulfill many roles, though they are mostly intended as logistics.

When you drop multiple carriers on an enemy, they can spider rep (remote rep each other) and then they are damn near impossible to kill. I've seen a group of 5 carriers easily hold off a 100 man gang, although they lost a lot of drones.
In laggy fleet situations, spider repping is hard or impossible to do, but all carriers have to do is deploy fighters which will go around and automatically kill anything that attacks the carrier, because the fighters aren't affected by the lag.

They are considered to be new BattleShips because they are dirt cheap. A carrier by itself is about 700mil. Granted, you can go crazy with fittings, but on average it's a durable warhorse that isn't at all expensive and provides an oh-so-needed anti-fighter support for your Dreds and fighters for your smaller ships.
Disadvantages? 1. You can't go thru gates. 2. It's not that hard to kill, really. 3. Can easily be jammed, unless sacrifices a slot for triage module.
It is, essentially, a support ship and once you kill off its fighters, it's now just a hunk of metal in space.

Well, the damage from 10 fighters is only roughly that of a close range BS, but the buffer and active tank are more than an order of magnitude above. Also, a carrier can carry more regular drones than it could ever use so you can kill the drones but it will have more to send.
Being T1, I think carriers insure well so in the end it's more value per isk and per player than a bs, assuming you have smaller ships to kill. Of course, if you're just trying to kill carriers, another carrier isn't the weapon of choice, that's a dread's specialty.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like with so (well, atm) good advatages and lill desadvatages makes the carrier almost perfect ship in game (cuz that some ppl were asking to nerf it in the past).
So now tell me, what are the advatages and desadvantages of a dreadnought, they seem to be not so popular in Eve, and what makes them so different of carriers.

There catapults. Try hitting a moving horse with a catapult before it gets close and allows it's rider to cut your head into tiny pices of fun, essentialy the same thing is true for dreads |

In short: anything thats not a pos/dread/moon isnt shootable in siege. out of siege you do the DPS of a nuetron II Mega. (except the moros.. cause gallente are win)
