Part 3 in 2010? Oh please let it be so....
Just watched this again, still the bit with Haffa "Are we even yet?" puts a lump in my throat..
I was actually thinking how this would make an awesome fresh and original movie, along the Serenity lines...
CCP should jump at this... (think about it, how many new Eve players would there be after a Clear Skies movie?... why is the phone not already ringing?..)

Returning Eve player and I have never seen your creation before. What an amazing, first class effort on part of you and your team. After all this time I hope your creativity, expertise, and vision has been acknowledged by someone who will back you and "give you a blank check" to create a blockbuster movie from this "pilot episode."
Best of luck mate...you deserve it after all this hard work...Jang o7

That might be one of the funniest short films I've ever seen. Excellent work! If there are anything like Clear Skies 1 & 2 out there, I most definitely want to see it.
And by the love of EvE - let there be a third! In for a penny, in for a pound -- I was never here! |

Yeah, definite bumpage.
I got at least one friend into Eve by showing them the Clear Skies stuff. Sure, it may not be canon, and frankly if you've played CS to death, some of the characters look a little bit *too* familiar, but sod it... it's good stuff and a great example of what a fan with a bit of brains can do if they have a mind to do it.
If there's a 3rd incarnation on the way, then you can damn well bet I'll be watching it.
Kudos, etc.

Awesome beyond words.
There are two things I'd like to see happen as a result of this:
1. Ian Chisholm gets a job on Doctor Who. 2. CCP decides to make Clear Skies a recurring series.
In particular, the battle at the gate in Clear Skies 2 has to be one of the best-done space battles I have ever seen. ____________________________________ Caldari by birth, Minmatar by citizenship.

And no, CCP can't really get behind Clear Skies. Think about it - the Half Life 2 engine is involved. If it was made purely with CCP tools, renders and sounds then I think they'd have done it(I point you towards Day of Darkness). But as CS uses music, SDK, etc, I don't think it's ever going to happen. Intellectual property and all that.
Bravo Mr. Rourke. roll on Autumn/Winter '10!
What if they switched over to the Unreal engine? Don't know if JR has any experience with it, but could CCP be able to get behind a project like this if it used a engine they already had a license to use? Might be worth looking into?!
I for one don't want to see this come to a close, and having some backing/support would probably make it easier to commit more time.

From what I understand this took a ton of time on those that made it. I've kept both parts tucked away in my NEVER DELETE folder since they came out. Another big thank you to JR and his team, and another bump to the thread. As well as the obligatory "hope for CS3". If it takes to much of your time from important things, no problem, but here's just another vote to see Clear Skies become a trilogy.
Thanks again for 2 truly great films JR.

Try reading the rest of the thread, and you'll know that CS3 is scheduled for release at some point before the end of the year.
On that point, a bump to this topic to share the latest trinket of info from master Rourke/Ian Chisholm.

Well I haven't updated this for a while, sorry, but I don't tend to write stuff unless I've got things to say :)
One is that despite Valve almost completely destroying the Half Life 2 development toolset for some inexplicable reason, I've figured out ways around what they've broken, so progress continues. I have all one one scene done, and one partways there.
The other thing I wanted to say is that while I still hope for the end of the year as a release, if it ain't done, it ain't done :) I'd rather do everything right rather than rush an arbitrary deadline. There are a lot of new things we are doing that make the film better, and pretty much all this stuff is the first time we are trying it, so it's going to cause delays. But I wouldn't be doing it if I didn't push myself, so that's a good thing, OK? ;)
So a small progress report there, keep up the good work dude! +1 to Clear Skies!

A mix of Half Life 2 and EVE, an actual plot and acting, all put together for a 40 minute 'pilot episode' format film. Two years of my hard work culminated in this, I'm very proud of it and I hope you like it. It's a big file so there is a trailer as well if you want a taster first.
I didn't post up anything earlier as I'm a believer in doing *then* saying ;)

Yes it bends the EVE universe a bit. Yes I'm getting a website made for it (with FAQ section!). But gosh darn it I was just too excited to let it lie while waiting for those to be finished :D

Regular CS stalker, bringing you another Clear Skies update. This one's a good one :D
Originally by: John Rourke, from the Clear Skies FB group
Just over 12 minutes produced :) When I say "produced" that means the main filming and acting is done in HL2, and the audio is balanced. Post production is required for external Eve shots, sound foley, and any fancy effects - I'm not getting too deep into that lot yet! The HL2 stuff is generally what takes the bulk ...of the time so it's a good measure. And it gives me something to watch.
The bad news is I'm running at 2 minutes per page of script and the script is 40 pages long >_< This might take longer than I thought as it's accidentally gone feature-film length, doh.
So it's a feature length film eh? Don't hold your hopes up for a Winter '10 release but MAN is it going to be worth it!

Another update:
Originally by: "Ian Chisholm, from the Clear Skies FB group" OK, so, I did some intensive work and nailed just over 2 minutes of produced footage, bringing the total now to just over 17 minutes. According to my calculations that's about 25% of the way through. Not bad. It's just going to take a lot of time due to the sheer amount of scenes to produce but I promise it'll be worth the wait ;)
So that puts the full length around 70 minutes. Can't wait! --

Regular CS stalker here with another update.
Originally by: Ian Chisholm/John Rourke, from the Facebook Clear Skies group
OK I have a release date in mind and I'm pulling out all the stops to achieve it :) It's March 2011, oddly enough my initial best guess over a year ago. With the amount of work needed simply because of how long the film is, this is going to take some doing - but I'm nothing if not obsessively focused :D
There will be ...a teaser trailer and a full trailer, and they should rock up in January and February 2011 respectively. If all goes to plan ^_^
I should now be past most of the technical hitches, a lot of the supporting stuff is done or being completed soon (sets, skins, gfx, etc). Mocap is flying along and working really well as the product and our use of it has progressed. My progress tracker is showing over 25% complete now - 22 and a half minutes done.
Link to the FB group for anyone else wishing to get regular updates.
So no longer Winter 2010, but March 2011... not bad considering this is going to run for an hour and 20 minutes(guessing that from the fact he's 25% done with 22mins complete). Still cannot wait! It's getting closer!! :D
