I'm currently getting only about 15-20 fps while in game. Doesn't matter if I'm docked or in space. I'm currently using the 8.476.0.0 ATI drivers released on 3/28/2008 and also using ATItool 0.27. The fans on my comp also run at or near full speed while I have Eve running, but that only started happening since I updated my graphix drivers to the latest version. It's not the vid card fan as I can monitor it w/ ATItool.
I'm just wondering what could be causing the fans to throttle up and the low fps. Currently running premium client low shadows, high cache, HDR, and low bloom.

With those settings, your X1600 will be struggling. That card is towards the lower end of the spectrum of supported graphics hardware, and is with all likelyhood simply unable to keep up. Especially HDR gobbles performance, try turning it off.
Maybe it is time for a new computer? I recently checked, Ç400 buys you a kickass system that should run high definition resolutions with HDR and AA and high shadows no problem.

Thanks I'll try turning off HDR and see if it helps any. If you had say $1k USD for a new system what would you suggest? -------------------------------- As a Freelancer...scratch that Originally by: Shar Tegral Stop projecting your out of game beliefs of what society should be upon the rest of us.

Get another $200 dollars and buy yourself an HP Elite. Then save another $400 dollars and buy a nice HDMI widescreen.
You're gonna like the way it looks, I guaranteed it. _

How are the ATI Spider systems? Did some looking around last night and put together one @ Tigerdirect for about $2,400. I already have a 22" Hanspree Widescreen LCD monitor, and a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card. Figure if I wait a few months I could put out the extra money or maybe even wait till the SB700 south bridge comes out next year (or upgrade when they do).

Edited by: Ix Forres on 31/05/2008 22:20:35 I'd say go for something with: Intel Core 2 E6600 or higher (Intel still reign supreme both general performance-wise and bang for buck in nearly all fields) nVidia 8800 or higher (BFGtech 9800s are around ú200 for the nice ones, and ATI's offerings still fall far short of the mark performance-wise compared to nVidia) RAM: Go for 2 gigs minimum, maybe 4. Corsair is expensive, you may want to look at OCZ or similar vendors who may not have the brand name but are actually just as good. Graphics cards and mainboards to suit, garnish with a sweet case (Commodore ones are supposedly very nice- I'm going to be moving a system to EVE case soonish, so maybe I'll let you know ), maybe some cold cathode lights, and for the love of code don't bother with HDMI monitors (DVI's just as good and a fraction of the cost) or Creative sound cards.
If you want a good soundcard, get an external one from Digidesign (The mbox series- for professional sound quality), or a decent internal (The Asus D2 Xonar is exceptional. Tons of shielding, and a real D to A chip unlike the Creative boards which just use tons of DSP to try and make their rubbish D/A convs sound any good.
To clarify, I'm running on a similar system to the one described above, albeit a step down- I'm an E6600, old-model BFGtech 8800GTS 640MB, 2 gigs of DDR2 PC8500 OCZ and an Asus mainboard. Soundcard is a relic of an ISA board hacked in with a PCI-ISA bridge because it sounds decent, plus a Digidesign old-school mbox 1 for Pro Tools work. Runs 3 premiums just fine, and gets 50+ FPS in all of them over my two monitors. When running just one, happily manages 100+ FPS consistently. -- Ix Forres EVE Application Developer ISKsense | RLS-EVE | Blog |

Intel C2D E7200 - Ç100 P35 chipset mainboard - Ç75 2GB DDR-800 - Ç50 NVidia Geforce 9600GT - Ç100 Case and power supply - Ç50 400GB SATA Harddisk - Ç50 DVD-RW drive - Ç25 ------------------------- Total: Ç450 (estimating $600 US)
Runs EVE premium in 1680x1050 with AA and HDR. Why spend more?
Oh, yeah well... you might need a monitor too.
