Originally by: Opertone mind that the invention of the technology requires a lot of effort. But mass production costs are minimal.
What happened to LCD TVs? Cell Phones? RAM memory modules?
in a truly developed state a production is based on the cost of the materials... and to my mind this mechanical ARM requires 5 kg of various metals, 2 kg of plastics, and a little electronics.
60 Years ago a personal portable radio was unthinkable... costs were too high. Now we have have compact flash players for less than 40 dollars. And they are dropping further.
There were times when automobiles were unaffordable... now everyone can get one. Asian manufacturers only bear the material and labour costs after they have reproduced the technological process.
Within the next 100 years we should be able to build autonomous cyborgs - ones who imitate human, industrial robots we can build already.
And seriously, there is no more efficient technology than living creatures themselves - why do we need to imitate life, when human body is much more efficient - all you need is a new instance of a human body - a genetical clone - your baby.
Actually robots can be stronger, faster, and smarter then humans...Though they might lack the lifespan I believe its highly possible to make a machine run at 15+mph lift a ton and think half as fast as a human(whilst having an amazing amount of memory space).
The only thing machines wont beat is the processing capability of the human brain.

A mean super human machine might as well require more power, this is what i meant be living creatures being maximum efficient in their environment.
Robots aren't very feasible now because we can't find a suitable source of energy for them to match their power output.
Emphasis is now.
Humans are inefficiant, we need air, water, food, and sleep...Not to mention proper quantities of each.
Why not just make a machine that runs off of water? We have a torch that works that way... Or how about it just refills hydrogen and breaths air to make water?
