I believe the Archon (Amarr) is highly praised.
Though some people fly the Nidhoggur (Minmatar) for laffs as you can apparently speed fit it...? ~

What are you going to use it for?
Amarr is great for Pvp, but so is the Caldari as both add resist as you gain skill.
The Gal gives a bonus to Fighter damage so if its not fleet battles then I would look at those.
Hope this helps

Hes completely right ya know. But yeah.
At the capship level, theres only one thing you worry about. Tank. Pure and simple. Its an oversized logistic ship not really suited for direct headon PvP like we're all use to. (Funny when you do it though, Love Discoing gate camps, heh)
Amarr have some of the strongest tanks in the game. This makes them highly sought after in the Capital ship arena for that very reason. Caldari is in the same regard, both have resistance bonuses. The longer you tank, the longer you can survive till your friends get to you in the belt you so stupidly went to rat in while a small nano gang has you tackled. (insert attack on certain people)
Dreadnoughts aside, the same line of thought works for both Titans and Motherships.
Dreadnoughts are all pretty much equal. (Moros being uber cooler than the rest however, and Phoenix doing any Damage type) -----------------------------------

All carriers will do okay in their role of supplying fighters and repping friendlies, the differences are very small. Provided you fit them correctly:
Caldari: highest sustained tank Amarr: highest HP buffer Minmatar: best remote rep Gallente: best dps

The revelation is the best dreadnaught imho.
Great tank, awesome DPS ( always comes out on top of the killmails ), small ammo size ( more room for stront ), decent range on pulses.
With carriers it's personal preference really. It's just what you want to use it for. In my experience it's usually the thanatos and nidhoggur that get primaried first because they dont have a tanking bonus and go down MUCH faster because of that ( 20% less damage taken with carrier lvl4 is immense ).
My alt is currently training up for an Archon and my main for a Thanatos. But the thanatos is because I have gallente BS to lvl5 already.
It doesnt really matter much in the end to be honest. You're still going to die. Just pick the one that looks best so you enjoy it most until the end.

caldari requires a fairly signifigant faction investment before it has the highest sustained tank. The amarr is ready to kick ass straight out of the box with t2 gear.
Sadly I dont fly an amarr carrier, after having trained up the gallente one fairly well and after quite abit of observing carriers in battle in the variety of ways they can be used, if I could go back I would have trained amarr.
Amarr has disadvantages just like all of them however it has the highest survivability on agerage and being that most other roles of a carrier are more or less equal this leaves me with archon envy.

caldari, gallente and minmatar (minnie has got the best bonus for this) carriers are very usefull in POS/shield repping situation. Gallente carrier has got best DPS Caldari Best tank (until you run out of cap) Amarr best hp and very good cap stable tank
Choose whatever you need, they are all balanced.

I have no experience with carriers, but this is something that I've wondered about since the Nid got changed to an armour-tank... now that 3 of 4 carriers are armour-tankers, how useful is the Chimera in an armour-tanking remote-rep capital gang?

a good measure of the other carriers in your gang will have 1 remote armour rep and 1 shield transfer so your fine usualy.
oh and how is gallente carrier second? Caldari all the way, resist bonus is way more useful than a drone damage bonus :D aarr definaetly has the advantages though for both dread and carrier, other than choosing damage type rev has awesome dps and huge tank.
Go amarr, you wont regret it, if your going for carrier, get the archon, im stuck with chimera and the problem is as said above everyone else fly's damn armour tankers

Everyone always bashes the Minmitar carrior and i'll never understand why...
Does it have the best tank?.. no.. Thats amarr Does it have the best firepoer? ... no.. Thats galante
But what it IS good at.. is the support role it was meant as.. that being a armor/shield repping beast that can still bite back if it has to.
The Minmitar carrior is NOT MADE TO FIGHT.. its not meant to be at the 'spearhead' of a battle.. if anything i think the Minmitar carrior was made with the Triage module in mind. If you like flying a support ship.. and dream of haveing a carrior one day, then the Minmitar carrior would actualy suit your playstile better than the Amarr or Gallante, or even Caldari ones. --------------------------------------------- "Only two great species on this planet take part in massive, organized warfare. Wouldn't the nidd also be one of the first carriers primaried? You knock out a ship with the weakest tank (same as thany) and the best ability to help its buddies. Seems to me that this is the carrier with the absolute lowest survivability. And on another note, the nid is not all that useful in sieges since dreads cant be remote repped while in siege.
On another note, when fit similarly, all the armor tanking carriers regenerate cap at the same rate, but since the nid has the smallest cap reserve if a setup is being nosed or can't perma run, the nid will run out of cap several minutes before the other carriers will.
I'm a short distance away from a nid but seriously considering adding the 45 days for the archon. That and a 80km pulse apoc would be sic... but I wana jump my stuff around noooooow. =(

There is no such thing as the best Carrier. Even the Nidhoggur has its place, they basically all do the same thing and it is more of a matter of what you prefer.
Nidhoggur: Shield and Armor Repairer Bonus. The only Carrier with a Bonus on the effectiveness of the Repairer.
Thanatos: Shield and Armor Repairer Bonus. Damage Bonus for Fighters
Archon: Energy and Armor Transferer Bonus: Armor Tanking Bonus. The lack of Shield Transporter Bonus is a handicap when it comes to POS Boosting.
Chimera: Energy and Shield Transfere. Shield Resistance Bonus. Lack of Armor Repairing Bonus can be a problem when a Carrier Fleet Spidertanks.

I'm not sure if this is realized, but if your carrier has +20% resistances to everything then that means everyone else's remote repper is working 20% better than it would on another ship. A nid's remote repper is also working 20% better than it normally would, but the only carrier a nid will ever repair is another nid because it is tied for the weakest tank and its gang bonuses make it the most useful carrier in the fleet. (that is, if it was left untouched, which is why it isnt left untouched)
What are the situations where you would lose your carrier? 1. You are ******** and warp to a gate or belt. No friendly capitals are online to support you. Result: You are dead no matter how you fit your ship, 3,000 dps tank or 8,000 dps, a carrier pointed at a gate or belt will die because its free lunch and everyone is invited. Solo, the carrier stats are pretty irrelevant.
2. Cap fleets. You are with a whooooooole bunch of carriers. In this case your dual reps are a great big help, but are pretty meaningless when compared to the remote reps of the rest of the fleet. ill explain.
(And if anyone has a problem with my methodology or math, post your correction and not your flame, i iz tring to hlp) Using eft to get the tanking numbers, we have: Archon: 2 CAR, 3x H II, 2x EANM II = 4751 defense. Nidd: 2 CAR, 3x H II, 1x EANM II = 3075 defense.
Now if a CAR repairs for 9600 every 22.5 seconds (max skills course), and you have two of them, then that means you repair for 853.333 per second and can get the per point repaired defense efficiency as follows:
(I am assuming that the defense efficiency is defined as the amount of dps, from all types, your ship can tank per second given that cap is unlimited)
Total Defense / Amount repaired per second = your defense rating per point of repair. So... Archon: 4751 / 853.333 = 5.567 Nidd / Than = 3075 / 853.333 = 3.6
Why is this important? For every single point of remote armor repair being directed at that archon, its getting its defense efficiency boosted by 5.567 while the nidd/thanatos gets only 3.6. Now lets put that in perspective... a capital RR repairs for 1500 every 5 seconds, so it repairs 300 points of damage every second. So how much defense does a single RR add to each carrier?
Archon: 5.567 * 300 = 1670.1 Nidd / Than: 3.6 * 300 = 1080
Already this is a holy crap moment (I'm doing the calcs as I type). So just for kicks, lets say you have 10 carriers repping you.
Archon 1670.1 * 10 = 16,701 Nidd / Than: 1080 * 10 = 10,800
The spread is MUCH farther if you add more carriers. And keeps getting farther. This is why remote rep setups get so much stronger in larger numbers, and this is why ships with resistance bonuses are absolutely uber for this. Not only does the archon have a resistance bonus, it has an extra low, which I stuffed another resistance mod in there.
That is a SIGNIFICANT amount more tank.
So the question now becomes... what do you want to do? If it has anything to do with combat your best bet is the archon. If you are getting a carrier to rep poses and station services the nidd is your best friend. And lastly, part of my point, the resistance bonus is very nice indeed on the archon but it is nothing compared to having the 7th slot as well.
If anyone actually ready all that, thanks =)
