We've all seen the lol fits that turn up every time we log in, that are shunned and generally trolled...but what about those ones that have actually worked? what about those fits that you put together laughed at but then though ..."but what if"
I want to see them! 200mm autocannon Maelstroms, Disco frigates, battle Bursts, tripple rep logi... ect
the only rule is that they have to have worked. you have to have killed your intended target, or survived, or done what ever you were aiming for...

*Must remember to revisit thread and update with the fits I used.
I'm an occasional player, mostly log in, update my skill que and log out again. But sometimes I try to blow stuff up too.
A while back I had gotten the hang of can flipping and had earned kills against mining barges and even a mining fit battleship while flying a Tristan. I think the area was over fished because over a short period of time, there were no more kills to be had.
I thought at the time that perhaps the *fearsome mighty Tristan* may have been stopping miners from stealing their ore back or setting their drones on me.
Maybe, I thought, just maybe I could bait them with a less intimidating ship. Something that would even look like a mining vessel itself... Perhaps I should stick an afterburner and a scram on a Navitas... And some Blasters... And even a small buffer.
Yea, that worked in getting an engagement. But the mining vessel, sat next to the recently pillaged can, just looked on in a bemused fashion while I got murdered by a Rifter. The Rifter pilot sure was surprised that I took him to half armour before he killed me though!
Another time I had been doing some dustbin men work in the mission hub systems around Dodixie. I had gotten quite bored, very quickly, when I realised that from an isk value was far less than I thought it to be. I was intrigued however at the amount of times I was shot at.
This was before the session change timer for switching ships was patched away so by the time I had returned with a suitable nuety pewy battlecruiser, the mark had always docked up by the time I returned. What I needed was a ship that looked engagable again. Something that had, 4 turret slots plus utility for a neut. Some sort of tank etc.
And lo, my bait rupture was born. If I remember rightly, I had the following.
4x Autocanons 1x Salvager (for realisitic baiting purposes) 1x Medium Neut
1 Afterburner (pre-MWD work in deadspace) 1 Warp Disrupter II 1 Cap booster
1 MAR II 1 DC II 2 Damage specific hardeners (kin/therm) 1 Gyro II
Went up against a pair of gallente battlecruisers but my damage/neuting was too anemic to break their tank. But I had gotten the aggression I needed. They were very confident that they could kill me so they were still there when I returned in a Cane. |

Important things to note;
This fit was used pre-Tier 3 BCs (it was made obsolete by the Oracle) It is intended purely as an anti kiting platform capable of keeping up with shield BCs Intended to roam in packs of 4-6 as support for main fleet of BCs Roughly the same EHP as a nano Drake with Webs (BIG EM hole, but no one ever shoots EM at an Apoc ) Roughly the same align time as a 1 Nano Drake, ~1500m/s Overheated Upshots It shoots to 90km with sweet sweet scorch...almost all EM damage...when a Cane or Cynabal or what have you is MWD-ing away trying to kill your tackle...4 of these bad boys spewing forth laser goodness into their big EM hole = AWESOME It aligns fast enough and burns fast enough to mostly keep up with the roam... Does a lot more DPS than a Drake at greater range and instantly Downshots It is a very expensive drake that only shoots EM ammo and has tracking issues if things get too close... Needs 3% CPU implant And after all that...here it is!

When I flew it I did cap out mui quick, but it was never meant to kite. It was literally there to pick off the smartasess in Canes/Cynabals/nano-drakes trying to burn off the fleet. After the first few times I took it out people started figuring out what I was doing with it and called me primary...so i found the little extra tank was worth it for the lack of cap. You're right though the cap booster is a must have for any prolonged engagement (you have the grid for it too).
In practice it worked quite well even with its crap cap life. A heavy cap booster probably would have been handy, but most fights never lasted long enough for it to matter. Like I said though it is now totally obsolete. The Oracle does what is was meant to do better.

No Booster or Tackle but it will soaks up Damage in a Gate or Station Camp with a conservative 50k EHP Buffer and 800-1000 Active Tank. This is without Drugs or Implants. No need to worry about range as Heavy Missiles have a long reach. You can jam an MWD or tackle on it if you want to with some creative fitting. With secondary tackle on field this is a pretty tough nut to crack.
I haven't tested though, I am still playing with the idea. |

Not sure if km links work on forums but that's one I lost heading home after a battle (pesky interceptors!). Useless on its own but a group of these spanked a bunch of war target bcs for quite a while for a really fun fight. Total lol-fit, ridiculously fun and disposable fleet. Now we have the tier 3s these would be pretty easily dismissed from field I fear though. |

I'm still messing with the railgun + 2 web brutix hull idea. No one starts out by trying to get into scram range of a brutix, but then realise they're taking quite some damage while under a long point, but then can't actually easily cross the overheated webs range to tackle. The biggest threat is the range of medium neuts, for which a medium nos did save me from a cane I'd almost killed, to let me get another mwd cycle off and away before his (iirc) 3 BC mates got close enough. Really I might have to trade a web for a cap booster to make the kiting easier, and/or to run a repper. I think Garmon tried a similar setup on an Astarte more recently too. I can't imagine it's terribly easy to hold someone without ganglinks as it's just not agile.
Oh and imho that armour anti-frig cyclone wants the invuln swapped for a meta4 medium cap booster to even hold tackle after a couple of neut cycles. |

You really have to laugh at someone who says he's solo-ing but uses an off-grid command loki (I presume) and keeps a falcon up his sleeve incase things get pear-shaped. LOL. That's a good small gang but it's far from solo PVP.
Here's a fitting we've used from time to time for baiting in low-sec. It's a drake with a 1000dps passive tank. Unless you get attacked by several ships at once you have to actually turn off the invuls at first so the attacker has the impression that he has a chance. The low dps output also adds to the illusion of being a sitting duck. LOL
Obviously it's not good for solo work but as a bait ship for a small gang it's great fun.

T2 purgers and no prop mod, really? I mean I've see & killed them, but that's because they're terrible PvE fits, as for being PvP bait, well you must be expecting to fly with overwhelming RR and/or ECM to reliably make it work. IIRC also it has major cap problems, and no cap to run the invulns really hurts the theoretical tank, which is also only a peak that can be volleyed past. Plus, just a long point means anyone can leave if they have even an AB or are notably faster than you to start with. |

The point of this thread was to share fittings that are out of the ordinary but worked for some particular application.
This drake is not intended to do anything other than fly around in low-sec and get people to attack it. Its role in gang is "bait". It's not intended to do anything else. In the bait role it has proven itself sturdy enough to hold on while a small gang is attacking it for long enough for our gang to get into the fray. The cap problems you mentioned must be related to skills. It will hold on with everything running for >5 min, which is lots of time to warp the gang in and even capped out it still tanks over 600dps. YYMV
I'm not trying to convince anyone to use this fit. Just sharing an out-of-the-box idea that's worked for us before.

It's a choice. There are many ways to skin a cat and money is not our problem. Sometimes just offering people enough of a target (not too much, not too little) so they get the nerve up to engage is more of a problem. It's utterly amazing how many people are afraid of a fight. A drake is a target that a lot of small gangs have encountered before and may engage without much hesitation.
Quote: And if it ain't highly cap stable, it won't last under any neuting. IIRC a SPR drake has much reduced cap buffer and regen, so a little neuting goes a long way.
As I said before, totally neuted out, it still tanks about 640dps which means it can hold on long enough for cavalry to get there. And yeah... we can alway play the "... and-if-this-and-this-and-this.... " game. For everything there is a counter and bait sometimes dies.
I guess you can see it two ways, really.... either put bait on the field that is disposable but doesn't offer much of a surprise or spend the money on giving them something they didn't expect. We choose for the 2nd and find that it works more often than not. YYMV.

Stupid Drake fit.
I think it's implicit here that the fits posted in this thread actually be "good". It's not a good bait Drake fit because it has no way of keeping a target tackled when local/scan spikes. You're relying on your opponent sitting there and not attempting to disengage. The fact that you've made it work doesn't mean it's good. |
