A while back there was a thread on the absolute worse torture imaginable. This is mainly about the best way to quickly destroy an enemy that just happens to be "Awesomely Gruesome" while we're at it. It has to be able to render a threatening enemy, possibly with super-human abilities, destroyed/disabled instantly. It can take place in a fantasy world, a sci-fi world, or even just a modern world. Here's a couple of my ideas.
1st is the only one in a fantasy world. This works best if your enemy is some sort of giant sea serpent. A maelstrom of blades through the face and out the other end scrambling every vital organ on it's way.
Next. Frozen to nearly 0 degrees Kelvin from the inside out. Then shattered into a million pieces by a strong blast.
Third. Sliced into 4-5 distinct pieces. Each slice so incredibly precise that one wouldn't even know he was cut until large chunks of one's body starts falling off. The cuts would be so precise that there would be little pain. Rather then passing out from the pain the target would get to watch his own fate until his brain finally dies from lack of blood flow.
Finally. Banished to a world beyond time & space. One would be unable to feel anything. One would be completely cut off from everything except emptiness. One would have to revel in emptyness. One would be driven insane by nothing. Nobody would even be around to hear your cries of agony. Cut off from everything, trapped in one's own insanity for all of eternity.

Yeah, that's a nasty one. There's also the tried and tested hanging, drawing and quartering. Hang the poor bastard until he's an inch from death, let him sign his own confession, open up his belly, remove internal organs and show them to him, then cut him up into 4 pieces.
There are a few more outlandish ones I can think of. Peeling off a guys skin WITHOUT cutting any large blood vessels (requires a lot of skill). The guy will very slowly die from drying out, as he has no skin left to keep the moisture in. There's also being given anaesthetic before beheading so that your brain doesn't instantly die of shock. The brain will remain alive for about 30 seconds after being severed from the body. Back when the French were playing around with guillotines, they sometimes used to pick up the severed heads of victims, shout the person's name, and watch as the eyes opened and looked at them. Lovely.

I thought the last phase of that torture was attaching each limb to a horse and sending them in different directions?

It might be. I thought it was simply cutting into 4 pieces and sticking the head part on a pike as a warning to future wrong-doers. The victim was usually dead by this point anyway.

Drill a small hole through the top of their skull, not enough to cause any brain damage.
Hang them upside down. As the blood rushes to their head, they bleed out slowly through the hole.
rstart by pushing their extremities against something EXTREMELY hot (a few thousand degrees, though localized) Strap them to a machine that pushes them against the hot object at a rate of about 1 meter per hour. Causing them to slowly be disintegrated. Stopping at joints (ankles, knees, hips) for about ten minutes to lengthen the pain, may be done as required.
Make a BIG water slide. About 200 meters long and oil instead of water as a lubricant for the body to slide down it. Have it at about a 30 degree angle (maybe less, angles aren't that good with me) so at about the 180m mark they are very ******* fast. At about 185m change the smooth plastic slide into smooth sandpaper (wet and dry paper) and continue until it is large grain sandpaper. Have the slide end in a pool of nitric acid, to dispose of any remains.

Romans had a creative method of executing "parent killers". They would cut open their abdomin, put them in a sack with a rooster, viper, dog and a monkey and then throw them on the river.
Other then that i think the "slow slicing" crap the Chinese was doing must be the worst. - - Falcons |

Actually, I can recommend a short story called "On the Uses of Torture" by Piers Anthony (yah, I know fluff writer usually, but this story is most certainly NOT fluff). I forget what anthology it was in, but worth a read if you want a serious look at social benefits from torture.
Anyone that watched either The Cube would agree a giant sized 'cheese-cutter' would be extremely effective at decimating a foe. Not really torture though as death is pretty much instantaneous. Real torture? Inject a very slow acting toxin that gradually raises a person's temperature. The individual would slowly broil, suffer horrific pain, gradual physical disability, be aware of the illnesses progression until their brain started to stroke out... the damage would be catastrophic. And very slow.
What a weird thread.

It's not a gruesome death, but I was once told the way to kill a person while leaving no physical evidence. That is, you take a diabetics needle and inject air into the corner of the victim's eye, near his/her nose. The air forms a clot in the bloodstream which moves to the brain and kills them. The air then dissolves throughout the victim's blood stream.
For another gruesome death, how about that scene in Cube Zero where that guy gets sprayed with what he thinks is water? He then slowly dissolves into a bloody grizzly mess on the floor.

Edited by: pwnedgato on 04/06/2008 00:36:48 What about being placed in a pressure chamber and adjusting it safely and slowly down to 100 ft below water or so. Then lower the pressure back to norm quickly but not quickly enough to kill them immediately.

Or even better. There was a moment in one of Kevin J. Anderson's Saga of Seven Suns series. A group of humans had been taken prisoner by aliens who live in the depths of a gas giant. The humans were being held in a pressurised (anti-pressurised should it be?) cell. The aliens came along, took one of the prisoners outside in a sort of crystal sarcophagus. They then slowly raised the pressure inside the sarcophagus by letting their own atmosphere inside. There wasn't much left of the guy at the end.

Okay, last time I post before I start creeping myself and others out...
Take dude. Skin dude under general anesthesia. Apply short term coagulantes to prevent lethal bleeding. Coat dude in semi-solid gel that adheres to now-exposed musculature/fat but is water permeable. Basically, the idea is to replicate a basic lipid membrane that will selectively allow incursions of water and fat soluble molecules but prevent the underlying muscle and nerves from drying out.
Go crazy on your favorite pain inducing molecules... you've got about 2 meters square surface area for your insane psychopathic canvas.

that would suck, but as time has stopped you wouldn't realize that you were cut off from anything, or be able to think that you were in the nothingness.

how bout you do a hannibal lector? anethatise someones scalp cut their skull open and feed the thier own brain?
Or if you want to be really nasty u place someone on an operating table, and surgically remove each and every bit of his skin tissue, organs, and musclemass, leave it connected and suspen all the bits around the table so the victimn can see his bits around him and see his bare bones with nothing on them (need some sort of drug to keep him from dying of shock, yet enhancing the pain) and keep all the bits moisturised. After that i dunno, maybe just leave him there for a year using drip feeds, then incinerate him.
Or some modification on a crucifix. nail the guy up there. leaving his feet resting un nailed. Put a tight noose around his neck and razor blades on a panel where his feet rest. If he reduced pressure on the blades by slouching he chokes, if he wants more air hell have to push himself off the blades. nice eh?

Take note that he doesn't actually say what it is, and googling it is harder than you may thing.
Anyways, I'm refering to a weapon used by the Eldar Harlequins in 40K (When the elder had Harlequins back in the 90's). In the description it was a hand to hand pistol that when pressed against an opponent created a small hole in which a monofiliament whip would race through the body liquifying the internal organs but leave the skin intact so the opponent would just turn into a sack of skin more or less.
This of course would fall under fantasy type of torture.
