Edited by: Pteranodon on 04/06/2008 11:37:45 I don't pvp yet. I do not have the skills but I read about tactics used from this & other forums. In a very general way it just seems to be tackle selected ship & blow it up. I know that is a very general statement & it can be much more involved but ultimately that is the PVP objective to kill the target, ransom the target to give you ISK or kill it anyway because you can and take juicy modules.
Now I suggest a fun change to the game. What if each class of ship had critical systems which could be targetted. If these were disabled the pilot is ejected-like it or not & his ship can be captured in entirety. In a strict PVP situation I would not give my ship to anybody I would just blow it up or let it die whilst I fought & nobody is going to get it.
I would suggest the mechanism would work like this. Each class of ship has a certain number of targetable critical systems. When a percentage of these systems are dead you lose the option to self destruct. When a critical level are destroyed you are ejected into space in your pod & your ship can be captured. The capturing of the ship by putting your pilot into it immediately reinstates the critical systems damaged & the cycle can begin again. The capturing of small ships would be quite easy but a Titan or Dreadnought could take a huge number of hits to the critical components to effect capture. We would also need a new module to effect repair of critical systems under attack.
Imagine an Enemy Titan or Dreadnought being used against the very fleet that built it!
It is just an idea- see if you want to explore it in the forum. If not don't flame me-I'm only thinking out aloud. If any of you have played Homeworld you can see this strategy in action but Eve gives much more depth to the endeavour.

I dont see this happening to Titans, as they would ALWAYS be captured...
But non cap ships would be cool to capture :). I really like the idea. But uhm, how am I gonna take the ship home? :)

that sounds really annoying, i remember in dune II building devastator tanks only to have the ******* ordos nuke them with green mind gas and make them shoot at me.
stepping on rakes. ________________ the way back home is always long, but if you're close to me i'm holding on. |

I think you would need to do this as a fleet & have a couple of pilots with very broad skills who would be in shuttles or some other low value ship so they could just hop out & in.
Edit: what about a new class of ship that can tractor a targetted ship back to a dock.?

Edited by: Nikkoli on 04/06/2008 15:33:02 I could possibly see this working... maybe have it become a 'critically damaged ship' object when it ejects a pilot and that would be scoopable by a hauler. The ship would then have to be fixed to become a useable ship...
or they could shoot the CDS some more and it would become the lootable wreck it does now.

tactical points is not a good idea, rather make it a module that you can use on a ship that is in structure to forcefully eject the pilot. Support the introduction of well thought out Amarr solutions!
I believe rats should avoid you if you have high standing with them. |

More likely try to search before posting and pvping before you make your opinion. It was talked to death and it sucks. ---

I'm going to PLAY along with this just cuz its a cute idea, but probably would not work in practice. To improve on this i believe that:
In order to even attack the "critical systems" the target would have to be below 50% structure (what ship would expose its critical systems when it still has armor/shields for defence?) and damage control could have an effect to increase the resistance of the critical systems by 70% for t2 (yes, higher than the structure defence) this is to make it challenging to do. It also gives pilots a chance to blow up their allies so that the enemy cant get their lootz
Like ppl are saying, not going to happen, would probably break some serious balance (not to mention, it saves isk for ppl, and we all know how broken the economy in eve can be) but it is cute, and i myself have wished this were possible, but really it wouldn't end well.
The other issue is, who picks up the highjacked ship after you eject the enemy? just a sidenote.

What about insurance?
if my ship gets critically damage and i loose it do i get my insurace pay out? if so cant i simply exploit this with a freind for infinate isk?

Skip the critical systems damage just give me the " Forced pod Ejection module " with a ecm percentage bonus.
i.e 15% success rate of ejection per level. Now only to get the timing om my smartbombs linked to that __________________ To POD or to be PODDED that is the Question ? InEVE API verified |

This would become the be all end all EWAR module even with a low probability of success. It would be preferred by pirates (more loot afterall) and in opposing fleets.
If it were a module that could only be used at fantastically short (i.e. > 1km) range then you may have something there but balancing what amounts to module that guarntees a win if you sucessfully get a "hit" is almost impossible.
As an interesting side note, if such a module existed it should be usable on the Black Ops battleship - might as well give something to the redheaded stepchild ship class.

Every ship is low value compared to a titan, although I dunno if I'd jump out of a state raven to capture a titan, I'd pretend to be afk or lagged to hell :D
