In reply to http://myeve.eve-online.com/news.asp?a=single&nid=2038&tid=1
So the 30 and 90 day gtcs as well as the 50/100 ones are disappearing in "favour" of a 60d gtc. Whats so bad about this you may ask? Well here is the price list:
30d gtc ............. = 14.95$ per month = 0.49833$ per day 90d gtc = 38.85$ = 12.95$ per month = 0.43167$ per day
and here comes the best: 60d gtc = 34.99$ = 17.50$ per month = 0.58316$ per day
This is what CCP calls "attune our product offerings with industry standards"
While some players have absolutely no problem with paying 400 million isk for 60 days instead of 90, most people (and there are many) who can barely keep above the water by buying 30d gtcs are pretty much fracked up because they cannot afford overpriced 60d gtcs. CCP will soon figure out that they have done a grave mistake by throwing all those players off their game and they will definitely regret their short-sighted greed.

well i find this shockingly, how can prices of the game go up? is this normal to silently increase the prices without letting us know ?
and with letting us know i mean a good message like the spam we get at login and not a patch note saying ps prices go up. but hey thats a good thing...
what are the players getting for the increased price ? are we getting beter performence out of the eve servers and its connection ? or is ccp planing to not go with that part of the industry standard ? --- Somebody needs a hug! |

While I did indeed hear about the 60d cards earlier, I would NEVER EVER have thought that they would be such a ripoff. I much more thought that it was just a cosmetic change, but ccp kept this well covered to be honest, tiny announcement in the last corner with nothing but a very slight hint at the price increase. Thank you ccp, for nothing.

CCP is not based in the US. The company is in Iceland and their servers (and thus much of their operating costs) are in London. The majority of their customer base is American which ties their income to the value of the US dollar while much of their costs are tied to the British pound. The dollar has been loosing value relative to both the pound and Euro thus the majority of their income has been falling relative to their costs. This is further complicated by the fact that many of their European customers have realized this price imbalance and purchase game time cards online using Euros/pounds converted to dollars.
CCP is facing a serious drop in their revenue relative to their costs. They took a surprisingly limited approach to recovering this revenue as they didn't raise the actual subscription rates, just the costs of game time cards and even then they did not raise them in proportion to the change in value between the euro and the dollar or even the pound and the dollar.
So to summarize, things cost more in dollars because the dollars worth less. It's economics and no amount of whining is going to change that so stop.

Well, ok, maybe the free initial software, but other than that!
Err, well, maybe the free expansions, but that's it!
I mean, plus the constant updates and improvements, but still!
Oh, and I guess the total rewrite of the graphics engine...
Still, CCP should be ashamed of themselves for raising prices on their GTCs by 3 bucks a month. I mean come on.

These 3 to 5 bucks translate into 30 to 50 million isk. An additional sum that many current GTC buyers simply do not have. Basically a part of the playerbase will leave, while the other part pays more. I seriously doubt that they will see more money because of the leaving players. The result of this, same income for ccp, less players to spread the word. Mission failed. CCP gained nothing, players lost something. Whats the point in it?

Nope, they'll get the extra few bucks. It's just you, you're the only one failing here.

My god, so people may have to play the game more to continue playing it essentially for free. This is an even larger tragedy than I had initially assumed.

Pretty much. :)
Sophia, if you can't afford to pay an extra 50M isk every 2 months... pay the 15 bucks. Still, I don't see how it's an issue unless you have a dozen alts or something. I log in about an hour or two a day and generate 3-4B a month, and my oldest character has less than 10m SP. So I guess you should probably quit worrying about the GTC cost, and concentrate on not sucking so much.

it will come out to what 300mil isk? i doubt 400mil for 60days will be a standard price.
generating 5million a day shouldn't be a problem. (if it is well you are doing it wrong) hell even 400mil 60d cards 6.66mil a day not that hard.
and I can bet people will be dumping in quantities of enough that might see 275million as not that rare. hmm it appears the 90d gtcs have rebounded in price a bit. maybe 300 will be a cheap one, and 320 standard

ok Sophia I do have a news flash for you. CCP IS A BUSINESS. They want to make money and with a lot of economies in the crapper and currencies dramatically out of sync from the the norms of the past 30 years it makes since that the dollar value to play game has increased welcome to the world.

The number of people who will leave the game because GTCs are getting a bit more expensive will be minuscule. If you're paying with a credit card over this website the prices will stay same as they always were - it is only the GTCs that will increase in price a bit. And I think a GM said that we will have other options of paying for the accounts besides using a cc. The prices in ISK will probably be around 280-380 million for 60 days of game time. This is not that bad. Considering people were paying like 200-240 mil ISK per month of play time around Trinity expansion I'd say 150-170 mil ISK a month is quite doable.

This change makes it much less fun in the timecard forum.
Malipulating the price of 30d's is so much fun. Once you stop inflating the price tho it quickly drops down again. I laugh at those selling for 150mill, when you can quite easily raise the price straight to 200mill and sell them within a day or two.

being able to inflate the price like that requires you to be able to sell enough cards to do so. Quite a lot of people don't buy more than 1-2 cards to sell and as such don't have these manipulations at their disposal.
And really at the end of the day... everyone who's buying GTC from you for 150 or 200mil isk is laughing because you're spending rl money to earn what they're obviously capable of giving away without even inhibiting their ability to play.

1. Those who can "barely afford to keep afloat" with 30-day cards now would actually have less trouble in comparison to go with 90-day cards anyway, as the ISK/month ratio is heavily in favour of the 90-day ones. All they need to do is keep a modicum of activity level until they can afford the FIRST 90-day card. Loaning ISK comes to mind as a distinct possibility here. 2. 90-day GTCs go for less than 400 mil ISK nowadays. Most likely the new 60-day ones will go for somewhere between 320-360 mil ISK. 3. The price of GTCs in USD has only a SMALL correlation with the SIK you get for them, but it does have a high correlation with their usefulness for the players. 4. Everything will work just fine, people who can afford to buy GTCs with ISK now without breaks will still afford to buy GTCs with ISK later, after all get displaced by 60-day ones. 5. Conclusion : you're blowing everything out of proportion and have no idea why GTC-to-ISK ratios are the way they are, therefore this thread is pointless AND coincidentally, in the wrong forum.

CCP here to make cash - they love the game, as much as we do, but they are still a business. I understand what they are doing, despite not liking it, I still understand it. Also, a 2 Dollars/month increase will not break me, or 24 Dollars/year extra.
So, we will have to live with it, not a big deal not a huge increase, but if that will allow them to improve the game, so be it.

Don't forget that for sellers like Shattered Crystal, 3 things are happening.
a) Shattered Crystal will get something for selling them b) There might be a comission reward going for hotlinking (not sure if this comes from shattered crystals cut, I imagine it is) c) CCP get a cut
When you consider that with current prices paying by GTC is much cheaper than by direct debit/credit card.
So although you might think the re-structure of GTCs is unfair I bet it just brings GTCs inline with other payment methods. --

Edited by: Sir Ibex on 08/06/2008 18:50:38 Edited by: Sir Ibex on 08/06/2008 18:48:54 Wow.. I can see there are some jerks in this thread... I understand your point guys, but you don't have to be such jerks about it! If you want to pay more, go ahead and throw your money away since they come easy to you, but don't put down those who work hard for their money and don't want to spend extra for things they are already paying enough for.
If anyone here wants to pay $3 more per month, go ahead and do that. But I don't want that! Neither do at least a thousand more players like me. Judging from a post on these forums that already has well over 700 supporters, I'm not just making all this up.
Don't be talking about expansions and "other" things CCP gives us. No one begged CCP to provide these for free. I rather pay $36 whenever a new expansion comes out(which is usually NOT once per year), then pay $3x12=$36 extra every year. Other MMO's charge $15 max, EVE should too. End of story. No "buts" or "if's".
Also, many of you are forgetting about people who choose not to "pay" for this game, but grind the isk for 30day TC's. Oh? What's that? You don't give a damn about those people? Well.. CCP sure will when they lose thousands in profit after many of those people quit. Many of them are long time devoted fans that constantly bring more people into the game and are an integral part of EVE's economy.
To the OP: Don't waste your time here in this thread. Instead, go and support the petition on this issue in the correct place in this forum. Give one more "thumbs up".
