Right, I was just wondering if the gate was the thing that made tracking ships harder. Didn't know it was 100x though, that's good to know. Seems to me though that I've gotten a lot of hits on things in deadspace with recon probes. Maybe I'm mistaken.

I've probed a lot of mission runners down, but I still don't know what's deadspace, what isn't and what rules apply.
General rule of thumb is, if there are ANY gates at all, MWDs won't work. Some missions seem to allow MWDs, so long as there are no gates, but I've been in missions with no gates that also don't allow MWDs. I tend to just fit an AB everytime to be on the safe side.
No idea if the ones that allow MWDs or the ones with no gates but no MWD are also harder to scan...
Also, as a response to some earlier poster, the HIGHER the sensor strength of the ship being probed, the LOWER the chance to get a result. Self Destruct & LogOffs |

They are respectful, complimentary, and offer advice when desired (as proven in this thread). They are also very skilled as a team. If you want to know what top notch pirates are like... look no further. To the Original Poster.... listen to Suitonia, you can learn a few things.

I like a lot of the advice you're getting. One more trick:
* At the warp-in point of each deadspace pocket, jettison a round of ammo or useless rat loot. That should uncloak anybody who's following you in. Then move well away from the warp-in point to fight the denizens of that pocket.

Just a word on probing folks in deadspace: my 6.7m SP covops alt probed out a Nightmare in a 0.0 Sansha mission just yesterday. Took 2 tries with a Snoop probe.
When I got into the mission he was already 3 rooms deep. I didn't have the firepower (solo Rapier) or the AB to take a serious run at him, but finding him wasn't a problem at all.
As always, ymmv.

i always thought drones were easier to scan because they perma MWD, and thus always have a large sig radius for their size... sensor strength of the drones/ship having nothing to do with it. _____________________________________ today i am this cool: [uncool]================[*]====[cool]

One question I have is about probing drones (more about probing in general). Do the object types have to be enabled on your overview to get a hit? I have drones turned off on my overview and I havent been able to probe out a drone. Could this be why? |

There are two simple strategies the OP might have followed, and I don't see either of them mentioned in any of the replies. Please excuse me if this is a repetition:
1) Once in the mission, you should have moved as far from the warp-in point as possible. Then, when the enemies arrived, you'd have been quite distant from them and might have had time to warp away before they could catch you. (In this case, they had a Gallente recon, so you were pretty much screwed, but in principle this is a good strategy.)
2) You could have gotten together with a few corpmates and run missions together. Three Ravens are harder to jam and to kill than one Raven. Together you could have run missions three times faster, so it shouldn't have impacted your earnings much. Indeed, by fitting a kind of spider tank you would have been practically unbeatable.

There's so much crap flying around this thread, otherwise it's packed with good advices!
Just to set this down straight:
- ECCM = Electric Counter-Counter Measure. A way to increase your SENSOR STRENGTH (LADAR, RADAR, Magnetometric, Gravimetric) to reduce the chance that you will be sensor jammed by ECMs (Electric Counter Measures).
- Sensor Strength Your ships sensor system amplitude. Basically a threshhold that any ECM pilot will have to overcome in order to knock out your sensors. (There's a LOT more to it, but I won't get into detail since it would derail the topic. Search for an EWAR guide instead).
- Signature Radius The Size of your ship when "seen" thru a ships sensors. The bigger the signature radius, the easier sensors have to lock on to the target. A big sig = Fast locking against that target. It also assists in helping large turrets track and hit targets. It also affects damage from missiles.
How all this comes down in probing is simple.
Large Signature Radius = Easier to probe (the ships signature is big) High Sensor Strength = Harder to probe (the ships electronic systems mask the signature more effectively)
So a larger sig will make you easier to find, while a higher sensor strength will reduce that. The absolute nightmare if you want to hide is a shield extended Marauder with shield rigs. HUGE sig and a crappy sensor strength.

Glad this thread got so much interest! And all from me being stubborn and wanting to mission run even though there were war targets! :)

As for some hints, the higher your ships sensor strength the harder you are to probe. An ECCM might hurt your tank a bit, but will make probes have a harder time getting a hit on you. Drones also have a small chance to be probed out each, if you can afford to not use them then do so, although drones are usually good for killing scramblers
You should probably change your ship name if there are wartargets in local, you could even change it to "Someone_else's_name_in_the_systems's_Raven". There are a good 10+ Ravens in Dodixie/Auvergne at the same time and probing every single Raven will drastically increase the effort and time it requires to catch you. most people wouldn't specifically go after some other neutrals raven first either. they'd probe renamed ravens first.
Stay aligned to a station in the mission if possible and remove the scramblers first. If people end up in your mission then you can instantly warp out.
When you launch from the station warp to a safespot first, that way the prober doesn't get your general direction and it will take longer for him to get within 4au to use quest probes to get your ship.
Also use the directional scanner from time to time. Set it up as a 100,000km scan, 360 degrees. This will find all ships that are in close proximity to your mission, so if you see anything on scan then they are likely at the warp in gate or at an earlier room coming towards you.
Nice attitude to come here and post this. Nice to see people like you around.

That would be a good a trick...on a mission runner relying on it.
Jetcans haven't decloaked for a while now. They prevent recloaking within 2000m, but they don't break cloaks already active. * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.
