I want to say a big thank you to CCP for releasing free patches. This proves CCP is loyal to their fans and cares about the game. You work so hard to bring these patches out and you don't even charge for them. The DRM (Digital Rights Management)game companies have much to learn from you. I want you to know I appreciate what you do for your players and keep up the good work. Your hard work is much appreciated.

But Guild Wars doesn't charge a monthly fee. If EVE wants to adopt that system I would have no problems at all

wrong about guild wars, those are separate games, they are chapters, not simply expansions. And no monthly fee....!!!!!!! ________________ the way back home is always long, but if you're close to me i'm holding on. |

EvE is one of the only MMOs at all with free expansions. If this was the usual MMo new people would now have to buy the extra bundle platinum megapack with all expansions for only 79.99$ Abstraction and Transcendence: Nature, Shintai, and Geometry |

Of course theres also alot longer between patches in wow, as in like 10months or so between content patches, and 4months+ just for bug fixes.
Ccp treat eve players really really well over all. Not to mention that wow's story line is basicly static. Its no were near as dynamic or interesting as eve's. So i hear there's no line to break sigs so your reading this cause I put it in to look like part of my post! |

"Expansions" in EVE are not free, they still cost 14.95/month.
Not to mention, it also requires 2+ additional expansions to fix things CCP broke or unbalanced in a prior expansion.

Well, it looks like you didn't understand why I linked these posts.
1) I didn't want to paraphrase them. 2) I think those guys (those quoted too) provided good arguments as to why CCP don't charge for their expansions.
It's not because CCP are nice guys like the OP seems to be saying, it's because doing so is in their interest. _________

SWG is dead, I never played GW, a WoW expansion costs 49.95 (just like buying a brand new video game).

Yup, but a) WoW expansions don't cost 57% more for Europeans b) millions of players think they're worth the money
What matters in the end is whether the concurrent player numbers will keep going down (can only guess about the subscribers) or not. coldfront.net has added a long-time graph as well, it seems they have noticed the decline too.

How much did it cost when it was alive?
Originally by: Pan Crastus Yup, but a) WoW expansions don't cost 57% more for Europeans b) millions of players think they're worth the money
And in EVE they don't cost for Europeans period. So, nobody ever whines about WOW expansions that they suck, they got it all wrong, or same old same old, etc?

What matters is if other MMORPGs are experiencing their subscription numbers drop at this moment. If they aren't and it is only EVE then yeah I'd say something is wrong with EVE. But if they are, then it is something that is affecting all mmo games out there (i'd say it's summer + recession). So does anyone know how other mmorpgs are doing at this time with subscriptions numbers?

Edited by: Le Skunk on 07/06/2008 05:44:19 Ive said it before when the wrangler puppet meister CCP RYAN emerged from the shadows and started waving "free expansions " at us like CCP were doing us a huge favour.
You chose your business model at the games creation - after calculating what would make you the most profit
I DARE YOU CCP - I DARE YOU TO CHARGE FOR CONTENT
If you think your being such martrys giving away all your hard work ... then start charging for it. Its as simple as that.
Whats that? You are not going to? You realise you would end up losing subscriptions and money?
So stop acting like you are doing the community a favour, and then trying to use the free content as leverage to **** us over in other ways

Can I pay to not have to get expansions? There are a couple (read the last 12 or so) that I'd like to pay to avoid. Hey Zulupark, how much to get my Arazu un-nerfed to hell and back? $100? $200? For that money I could look into getting a nice Falcon pilot :P

that doesn't make sense how could you avoid new gates? new ships? POSes? capital ships?
every eve expansion effects everyone. you can't jusr not be effective. like this expansion for instance pirates, 0.0 allainces, and people thst build and sell ships are all being effected.
It's not like wow where they add fluff space where you can get new fluff and use it to fluff your way to happyness.
Everyone is on the same server in the same game world.
Also dear god the whinage in this thread.
They are free expansions. Saying otherwise is pure fail the 15$ a month might pay for CCP to make new content but the very definition of sub and expansion proofs you wrong. a sub is something you pay to have an account and to log in. and expansion is new content in which you pay for to see/use/be part of.
