Noob question I'm sure but... how come most of the toons on videos flying BC & BS rely solely on 'Ye Olde' suit case as their only tank accessory? Now and again they have a repper, last for ages using cap injectors and the like... what skills are they relying on to manage this?
Thanks all

It is highly likely that in the videos you have watched, the pilot of the ship has passive modules turned off on his HUD. I.E. modules which require no activation, such as EANMs and armor plates will not show.
As an active module (barely active mind you) the Damage Control will show, however.
Nonetheless, there are skills which help these passive mods. Armor compensation skills increase the resistance each passive armor hardener grants you, and the Hull Upgrades skill gives you 5% more armor per level.

Yes, hate the term toon so hard.
Sad thing some ccp employer used the term once, and it seem to have spread like the plague, makes me think about wow when i hear it. Support the introduction of well thought out Amarr solutions!
I believe rats should avoid you if you have high standing with them. |

Don't be so negative; you can do so many cool things with toons. Think about it; you could even make a whole Toonfleet !

off topic much?
the briefcase users are usually plated pretty heavily, if you are new to pvp then you should learn that ehp counts for more than your tankable dps in many situations since reppers are vulnerable to neuts and eat up a lot of fitting; gank fits usually require lots of grid for bigger guns and plates just require less of it
also, if you're not flying solo then it's entirely possible to have one or two people in gang RR everyone else

Thank you everyone who took the time to answer the question, would love to know how to do that to passive mods, if I may be so bold. That abbreviation (mods) is of course referring to a casual vernacular, being an abbreveiation of the word modules - hope that causes no offence to the anally retentive.
My apologies for the iconoclastic perspective, though I gather 'Toon is the cartoon game in which everybody Falls Down, and no one ever dies.' As opposed to the photo-realistic, real world of 'Characters'? Lmfao!
So please let me modify the question... how do I turn off the passive units in my display?
Thank you

Hehe, good reply.
Just right click the little triangle on the right side of your HUD and select "hide passive modules"

It's all the tank that you can/should put on most sniper setups. The DCU II doesn't add any penalties (no mass addition like plates) and offers more EHP than an EANM II to most ships. An armor repair system doesn't do any good in most situations because you will be dead before it completes a repair cycle in most instances. ------------

Like most people said already, apart from the toonbashingsquad, it's mostly because most people, especially filmers don't display their passive and empty module slots.
Also most of those movies will be showing armour tanked (either with resistance buffer or active injected) or passive shield tank setups.. the only active modules will be:
1 damage control 1 invul shield/explosive hardner (less of the last one tbh these days) 1/2 reppers, boosters 1/2 injectors
It doesn't show the 3 damage mods, or the 4 passive resistance mods. They rely on either their huge gank damage output, or the Compensation skills in combination with passive resistance modules and buffer modules (plates/extenders/rigs). That's it. I get 70% resistances accross the board with 1 active damage control showing. It's pretty easy.
Just look up energized (stupid us spelling gets me every time) on the market and find the much used EANM II, one mod most armour tanks rely on.
All the stuff above does not necessarily reflect my corp, my alliance or even me.. Drone guide.. |
