I would really love to extract that 1 unit of zydrine or megacyte from the many modules that I recycle. They always seem to be "unrecoverable" and go to waste. How high skill does one need to get those minerals when there is just 1 total? My refining is 3 right now, and I'm training it to 4. When should I expect to be able to get my sweatty mitts on those coveted minerals?

You need 5/5, which means Refining and Refinery Efficiency at lvl5, to get that piece of zyd/mega.
Have fun. --------------

Edited by: Vanaaa on 10/05/2004 11:34:00 I think what alastra wanted to say:
You will never be able to extract the single pice of zyd or mega, even when training ref5 refeff5 and scrapmetal5
you can however limit the loss of it whenstacking several of the same module:
example (no real-game stats): 1 unit of master-blaser gives you: 10 trit - 1 mega is wasted if you stack them masterblasters you will get(for example 3): 30 trit; 2 mega - 1 mega is wasted
all has to do with how the waste is calculated (always rounding up to the next full number i guess.. so even if mathematically only 0.01 mega would be wasted, due to rounding up, it will be 1 - until in this example you stack 101 units, then it will get 2 wasted mega)
I'm sure we have some ppl out there that can give the exact formula....
edit: Gwenn post makes me think I might be wrong..? anyone can confirm Gwenns or my version..?

Yes. that is the trick. wastage comes out of the first module because no matter how small the % it's always rounded up (5% wastage on a module that yields just one unit means you lose the whole unit to wastage), so when you stack them, you get the full mineral value out of the second, third, etc, up until you lose one again to wastage.
So, for example, on small armor repairers, you lose 1 unit of (I think it's) mega and get one when reprocessing just one module, but get 3 and lose one when reprocessing 2, get 5 and lose one when reprocessing 3, get 7 and lose one when reprocessing 4. At 5, you start to lose a second one iirc (get 8 and lose 2), and so it goes.
So, the trick to reprocessing for rare minerals is always save them up, stack them and reprocess as a group.

Well.. this is all nice and kinda true, but she simply asked how to get no waste on recycling modules and for this you need ref lvl5 and ref eff lvl5.

Gween, as was all ready stated, that's impossible.

Refining5 the advanced refining skill5 and perfect corp standings will mean you will still have 5% waste, when there will be a skill for refining loot it can be lowered to 0. -------- -The only real drug problem is scoring real good drugs

Actually its 0.5% waste. But still its rounded up.

You'll be able to get 0 waste when they decide to bring in the Scrapmetal Recycling skill, and not before.

You need refining 5/5, aswell as a standing of 7 or higher (or was it 5?) towards the corp that owns the stations you're refining in. This assumes the base equipment of the station gives a 50% yield.

I think the breakpoint is around 6.7 to the corp. I'm not quite sure, but I did a few missions when I was at 6.6 and after that I was at 0% tribute.

6,6666666............ to be precise. There was a formula to calculate it but can't be arsed to find it now. IIRC it can be found in 'Factories' section of the forums, look back three or four months. ----- Sable's Ammo Shop at Alentene 5, Moon 4, Duvolle Laboratories Factory. Ammo at affordable prices. |

"Two-thirds of ten."
And yeah ... you need Scrapmetal Processing, which isn't in-game. Given a 50%-yield refinery, you probably only need it to level 1.

Percent Station Takes = 5 - (your standing/(4/3))
I dunno if they take more than that for negative standing but anything above 6.66 (i.e. 6.67 and above) means that the station takes nothing.

"I dunno if they take more than that for negative standing."
they certainly do I got negative status with concord I'm -1.1 at the momant, and I'm trying to get it back up so I travel to the conrod stations to see how my small security ratings increases are stacking up using the refining window I'm sure it said it was 8-9% they were going to take off me last time I checked, I'd hate to see how much they take for -10 :)
