Quote: OK, there was a man engaged in a game called Eve Online. He was one of the most powerful characters in the universe of this game. He had played for years and accumulated great wealth; he would have been worth about $17,000 if he sold his character and all his virtual assets on eBay. Well, within the game someone took out a contract on his life. And in the span of one night, this guy lost thousands of dollars, lost his alter ego, and was betrayed by everyone he knew in this world.
How does he describe that experience and have any of his friends understand it? It's so bizarre and otherworldly. In fact, it's so bizarre that many therapists don't want to go there.
LOL, someone apparently lost EVE, and I mean really lost (it) hard!

with how angry some of the carebears feel about a navy raven loss, i bet you this was some poor ******* who got loftied and blew it out of proportion.

Edited by: P''Tang on 10/06/2008 00:29:50 WTF? While I agree that MMORPG addiction is in all probability real, I have to call this guy's deductive ability into question regarding the technology-shooter connection. The fact that these maniacs destroyed their hard-drives tells me that they had things on there they wanted nobody to see. It doesn't suggest (to me, anyways) that they were destroying some part of their own being.

Amarr Krall was the next person in line to get a titan in MC.
When BoB started attacking he gave them POS passwords and other intel in exchange for them letting him keep his titan (he also gave them all the fittings) however MC leadership got wind of the plot and cancelled the titan less them 1 (?) week before it was finished.
So he lost his titan and almost all of his friends (atleast those in MC)

I don't think that's correct. Krall Amarr was scammed by Cippalipus Prime (or however the hell you spell his name). That wasn't a bounty situation.

In all fairness, the concept of loss is something unique to Eve.. people who don't play won't know that in Eve you can lose your shirt in the blink of an eye if you make poor decisions this game. It's one of the things that makes it great, actually. If it's impossible to lose winning anything is meaningless. |

And here, I thought I was putting up something original. I just posted a new thread about this. I specifically used eve-search to check whether it's already been posted. Nothing came up when I searched "addiction shameful," "Boston globe," or "Jerald Block." So, I'm putting these terms in this thread now to reduce "repost."
I'm also adding http://www.gamepolitics.com/2008/06/09/shrink-wow-addicts-feel-more-shame-****-addicts and http://uk.gamespot.com/pages/news/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=26427812 links as that's where I heard about it first.
Anyway, I said, I do admit I'm hesitant discussing my gaming habit to my family. But, I'm just as unlikely to discuss my other habit with them too. d: I'm prolly more ashamed of my gaming habit though.
Do I think I have an addiction? Maybe. Do I think I need treatment? No, I can quit whenever I want. __ Rorqual AKA Mega Maid
