Edited by: Karial on 12/05/2004 22:24:13 Anyone give these a try yet?
Also, sifting through the release notes, I found this under Known Issues:
Launching EVE Online under Windows XP with an ATI RADEONÖ 8500, 9100, or 9200 series results in a VPU recover error before the terms and conditions is displayed. This issue will be resolved in an upcoming CATALYSTÖ release

Running just fine for me, and it's nice that Eve users are set to get some love from ATI's driver programmers.

Catalyst 4.5 with a Radeon 9200 results in the same VPU error as before, only without the warning box.
Sort yourselves the **** out, ATi, or I'm going back to nVidia.

I'm not convinced 4.5 give any improvement over 4.4 but I'll let the drivers settle in before I make a judgement.

I've been playing Eve for nearly a year now with a radeon 8500 and never had a VPU error. Recently i bought a 9600xt ready for a new system but decided to put it in the old system while i was waiting for the other components. This worked fine as well although it only took my fps up a little.
The rest of my new pc came yesterday and i gave it to a mate to put together for me along with the 9600xt. I put the 8500 back in my old machine so i could carry on playing eve while it's being built but am getting the VPU error now and can't get into the game. I've tried uninstaling and reinstaling the radeon, the drivers (4.4 and 4.5) and eve itself, but still can't get to the EULA without the VPU error I'm off on holiday next week and need to set a skill training ( a situation that only my fellow eve players would understand the gravity of ) So I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that my mate will have the new system up and running before i go

Someone needs to sticky this information for people that can'r read:
IF you have a RADEON 8500/9000/9200 (DX8.1 Class Hardware) - You can only use CATALYST DRIVERS 4.1 AND LOWER. CATALYST 4.2+ CAUSES VPU CRASHES. This is due to DX9 Implementation of the drivers/CCP.
IF you have a RADEON 9500/9600/9700/9800/X800 (DX9 Class Hardware) - You should be able to use the latest version of the CATALYST drivers without problems.

That is incorrect information. Here is exactly what they said : Launching EVE Online under Windows XP with an ATI RADEONÖ 8500, 9100, or 9200 series results in a VPU recover error before the terms and conditions is displayed. This issue will be resolved in an upcoming CATALYSTÖ release
Needless to say this is a confusing way. Why you might ask? Because it does not state the Catalyst version that was the latest build when they wrote this. For all we know version 4.5 could have been the 'upcoming CATALYST release'. They need to define these things better. It took them about 4 Catalyst releases before they released this statement. In the meantime everyone knew about this problem, and when I contacted tech support about this they basically told me the old story about driver conflicts, try upgrading your drivers and what not. That is not tech support, that is copy and paste generic answer without reading the question support.
Just my 2 cents.
