I started playing EvE over a year ago. Now, I admit I havenÆt played every MMO in existence but I have dabbled in several, either as a beta tester, 2 week trial runner or full blown sub. Recently, according to my xfire profile, I have spent more time in EvE than any other MMO I have played, either recorded or not by xfireÆs system. According to Xfire, I have spent 1,885 hours in EvE over this past single year. The second MMO that I played that comes close to that is The Matrix Online and took over two years to get 1,854 hours out of.
In this past year, I admit that I have spent most of the time in high sec and have never even been to 0.0, however before anyone calls me a newb allow me to continue my post.
In this past year my eyes have been opened to what a MMO should be. The single server concept, while meaning that if one server goes down they all go down also means that I never have to worry about picking the ôwrongö server. I never have to worry about having to change servers because friend X is on super dupper server A when friend Y isnÆt.
The concept of everywhere being a pvp environment, a concept that once made be clench my teeth at unless it was Halo or COD or so forth, is now something I cant live without. Even though I am a high sec citizen I know that means jack if my corporation goes to war or if someone with a itchy trigger finger comes across me. I would have to say this very fact is one of the reasons that I have spent twice as much time in EvE as I have in any other MMO.
The grind, something that every MMO seems to have is just so different. Myself being a college student, I will find myself spending days and sometimes even weeks (towards the end of the semester) on the books cramming. In any other MMO this would mean that I would be far behind my friends in level and less effective in missions, combat and so forth when I did come on. Here in eve, the grind merely means how much money you can get into your wallet.
The fact that I can do anything, be anything, that my uninformed choices at the beginning of my time in this game donÆt really screw me in such a way that all the time that I would spend grinding a certain skill line amounted to wasted effort and that I would have to remake the character is just so liberating. If, to borrow an example from wow, if I were a mage and found that I am better suited to be an archer 6 months later, thatÆs not 6 months of grind time completely down the drain.
In this past year I have experienced just so much, and yet I have only scratched the surface of this game. Sense my first time I entered this game I have tried several other MMOs and each time I was just shocked at how restrictive other MMOs are, how lacking in things there are to do or how you have to spend literally months before you can become something decent in pvp and by that time you are just tired of the game.
Not only has this game shown me how wanting other MMO are, but it has actually taught me things. IÆve learned things like economics, risk assessment, value, planning, coordination and a whole host of other things that no other MMO would even consider having in their game, and yet it adds to the experience. You feel the tinge of losing your first ship that you invested your life savings into; you feel the exhilaration of killing your first enemy and knowing how much you just set the other player back. Battles are not a matter of who gets tired wailing on the other person first but rather who knows what the hell they are doing, who has the assets they are willing to commit, who has the better leader and so forth.
I know this post comes off with the smell of a fanboy, but honestly I feel CCP does such an awesome job with this game. HereÆs to CCP, keep up the good work.

I am glad to see positive threads, even if they are bloody long.
Here I am, started in 2003, on the 2nd character, took me 2 years to realize I needed to re-roll, and still love this game.

I still learn new stuff from time to time (usually the hard way.) I haven't stuck with any game as long as I've stuck with Eve (at least not on a regular basis.) Basically I've learned that I've always wanted a game that abuses me and says "**** you" every time I log in.

Yay a positive thread!
EVE with twitch elements (like an FPS/non automated aiming) would be the one MMO to rule them all. Also combat where you could actually see their ships would be nice, although in space this seems difficult. EVE's market system/economy is one of the best I've ever seen.

Agreed, after trying Eve I thought to myself "Why haven't I played this game sooner?!" In my humble opinion, eve is by far the greatest mmo in existance. There is no mmo I have played that made me feel like I don't need to play any other game. There's so many choices. Infact, you can get very far and have a successful career without ever firing a single shot.

The only game that has ever come close to EVE is UO back in it's T2A days. But those are long gone, and UO is made of fail now. So viva la EVE! -

Everytime i chat with friends about games I always find myself saying stuff like, "Oh yeah, actually EVE has a setup like that but better" or "Yeah thats a cool idea but EVE has this..." and so on and so forth.
Eventually they tell me to shut up about EVE and they go back to playing WOW or Lineage2... And I just laugh...

I agree.
I come from a desktop RP background so you'd think all these fantasy MMO's put there would be perfect for me. Alas thats not the case. I've tried them all (So it seems) and they suck big time compared to eve.
Good job i'm a Sci-Fi fan and love internet spaceships

Edited by: Ryan Scouse''UK on 18/06/2008 07:29:43 Edited by: Ryan Scouse''UK on 18/06/2008 07:29:10 I like to point out I played this game for 2 nearly 3yrs - with billions of isk & ships & 3 accounts la la la - am still burned out its nice that you enjoy eve tho-
My accounts run out in Nov.. what ever will I do =/
I know eve is lost dew to the fact I let a whole day slide & didnt bother to log in to change skill on my main, I think that was the nail in the coffen for me shame really does eve offer anything new for me to buy with my isk yet? Wish list: Machariel x nightmare x 1bil isk x 5bil isk x 10bil isk + x PVP / low sec / alliance / x plexs x
What now?
I have 100mil over 3 accounts in wallet since static plexs were removed & delton my isk flow has came to stop, billions in assets do I sell these to fuel my wallet only to spend on more GTCS?

You could give them to me . Sorry, I feel dirty now I'm personally in the exact opposite situation, I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to earn enough isk to stay subscribed to the game with the gtc price increases. But dude, going a DAY without changing your skill? forshame :P

Hey i got you a solution : Spend some on GTCs , and send ISK to me too. That would do it.
