i am guessing this "mod" only works on classic client, since the premium splash screen is some kind of animation... ~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~ Take away the risk and it would make flying around in space utterly pointless.
Take away the flying around part and you make EVE into a space themed spreadsheet application. |

The splash screen is just the picture that appears after double clicking the eve.exe. Not the part where you login. ----------------------------

Modifying the splash screen is a EULA violation.
In addition to that if any of the client files are changed you can not patch it next time we do an update.

Sure it's a EULA violation to modify the splash screen and all. But you really can't pretent that splash that was posted wasn't very funny!

Really, its a bitmap image that shows while the client starts up. I can't see why editing it is a problem, just keep a copy you can restore when it's patch time.
Editing this being an EULA violation would by like Honda deciding that putting an air freshener on your mirror voided your powertrain warranty. - - - -

EULA violation or ToS violation? An actual EULA violation is (supposedly) illegal, while a ToS is simply a breach of contract which would result in the contract being void (or at least to my ignorant understanding).
IMO, CCP shouldn't be able to dictate what we do with the 1's and 0's on our hard drive. I understand trying to protect your IP, but it seems unethical to me for any company to try to restrict the use of our computers which we bought with our own money. Also, it's one thing to alter a file such that the behavior of your computer's interaction with the server is similarly altered. It's quite another to alter a file which has no bearing on the interaction whatsoever. If we want our computer to display a different splashscreen, who is CCP to deny us this right?
Not that I'm going to change any of the client files. If it's illegal for me to do it, I'm not going to do it. But that doesn't mean I'm going to be happy about it and not voice my opinion about it.

/John Wayne mode on
Mister, ya got me scared.
/John Wayne mode off
Deleting the splash screen makes the client load faster. So you're telling me that CCP "owns" that space on my hard drive and I can't delete files as I wish to?
That would be very hard to defend with any EULA.
I suppose I could charge "rent" for that space if it's THAT important. Say... $14.95/month?

Anyone yet figured out a way to filter the ever increasing in frequency "appears one time only" (BS) client side pop up ads?
I've been messing with Junkbuster but haven't looked at it too seriously.
I really don't like intrusive ads in a service that I am paying for. Not even Sony Online (the very definition of lowest of the low when it comes to ethics) does such a thing on their game clients.
I personally make it a policy to NOT purchase anything advertised to me in manners in which I consider to be intrusive, which is why I do not buy EON, nor will I buy the map book (why do so when there is a free one available that you can print on a color laser printer, then stuff in a binder?).
If those products had not been advertised to me in that manner, I would have bought them.

Just be glad CCP isn't a chinese company. Chinese companies are more likely to plaster ads EVERWHERE. It's actually funny trying to see how the average person can identify ledgitimate content from ads.

Have ELUAs been tested in court yet in the USA? Not saying its not a ToC breach, but this particular part of the ELUA is likely not enforceable. Anyways, not digging into that as I would rather not see a mod-edit, lock, or ban-hammer action ;)
But CCP, seriously. I recognize your lawyers made it 'illegal', but would you really care if someone edited the splash screen (as long as they didn't whine come patch time?) - - - -

I'm more concerned about players who have modified their splash screen causing panic here at the office when they can not patch their modified clients and post on the forums seeking help with their problem. That is why i consider being able to modify the client in any way a bug which should be fixed.

Yeah no surprise there. Rather than make the client more fault tolerant you prefer to lock everything down. Nothing to see here move along..
