As some of you may have noticed, the forum stickies are undergoing a bit of a spring-clean in an effort to update and consolidate them.
IS does not seem to have a resource thread for EVE O threads that are deemed popular or useful or for external links that may encourage and promote role-playing.
So if you have any suggestions or any sites or threads you wish to highlight to be added to a resource thread, now is your chance.
Please post below with any rule change, new rule submission or resource you feel useful for fellow players or something you want to bring to our attention.

Quote: 2. Images All imagery used will be in accordance with science fiction/fantasy themes and directly related to Eve in some manner. The idea is not to limit you, but to focus the images that are being posted.
Images should not exceed:
* New Changes (21/3/05) No more than 1 image per post 600 pixel maximum height 450 pixel maximum width 50kb maximum file size
Is that maybe switched around?
Shouldn't it be 450 pixels high and 600 pixels wide?

Here's something else to be considered as a rule for this area, call it "Terran's Law".
Simply put, it's a modified version of Godwin's Law. When anyone refers to Earth or anything else on the other side of the EVE Gate, that's it, they're done. People referencing things that simply would not exist in an era where pre-collapse information is looked at as more of myth and legend goes a bit too far, and is quoting specific things is just absurd in most, if not all, cases.
Therefore, I submit Terran's Law as a new rule/resource to be considered.

Well, I think this is a bad idea and is going to lead to a lot of "bad bans" where people are banned for breaking this rule by accident.
Personally, I have this "translation convention" - whenever I see someone referring to, say, an Earth custom or entity whose specific name would have no meaning to us, but is something that would, presumably, be present in the EVE universe, I imagine that it's simply "translated" for benefit of us, the player, so that we can understand what's being said. The character would hear something wildly different.
For instance, given that I'm very anti-slavery, I often use the phrase "Stockholm syndrome". Now, I could very easily say things like "Oursalaert syndrome" or "captor-victim bonding phenomenon" but neither of those are anywhere near as clear as the phrase "Stockholm syndrome". Thusly, I use such phrases, and hope that other people follow a similar convention, as I feel this is less obtrusive than making up names. Given that there are some circumstances when Earth names are completely out of place - referencing ******, Ghandi, Churchill, Moses, etc., but I feel that simply for the purposes of being able to argue to the best of our intellectual ability there needs to be a base convention for talking about otherwise generic things that have Earth names attached to them. |

Player Fiction Compilation I'd like to offer up The Zion Chronicles, found on this site as an "external link that may encourage and promote role-playing." I'm collecting various pieces of fiction that people have written, both recently and as far back as '03. If you have something you'd like to submit get in touch with me ingame via evemail or post on this thread. Otherwise, enjoy reading them!
Amarrian Prime Fiction Compilation Although Per Bastet linked the EO Library thread above, I thought people might like to know about the recent re-compilation put together as part of the aforementioned Chronicles. You can find the re-compiled Amarrian PF here.
Joining a Factional Warfare Corporation For a list of FW Corporations recruiting, see this thread.
Joining a Roleplay Corporation The previously mentioned Out of Character forum the Chatsubo has a Job Section where a good number of Roleplay Corporations can be found recruiting.
Other Chatsubo resources The Bookshelf section of the Chatsubo has a wealth of resources for Roleplayers. Make sure to check the stickied threads there for various information such how to find old news articles and a compilation of COSMOS mission PF.

As for the above discussion...Eve's time system is "EST". Guess what the E stands for.
Quote: The Traditionalists said the only way to go was to base the new calendar as much as possible on the ancient Earth-calendar. All the races, especially the Jovians and the Amarrians, had some data on the old calendar and by combining the data it could be remade more or less in its original form...The date was set as 0 EST. EST stands for Earth Standard Time
From Time and the Astrologer
That's that settled, I hope.

I'll have a think about what else is out there that people might like to know about.

In general, I would say that quoting literature and famous quotes, ect, isn't that bad, as long as one doesn't say they're from Earth -- sometimes they can be too good to pass their use up, so we can stretch things a little and pretend they were actually not from Earth, but from somewhere in the Eve cluster. Historical events might, eithin reason, be slightly renamed and pretended to be events from history in the Cluster (perhaps, and as long as it would be reasonable given the backstory). Earth religions should probably not be referenced at all, though certain elements from them might be adapted to serve as a representation of religious practices for groups in Eve that we don't know as much about. Within reason, of course.
But for a quote like the following? "Hey, back on Earth, Mussolini didn't build extermination camps within Italian borders guess he only supported the Holocaust..."passively" " . . . yeah. I totally agree when it comes to things like that. ________________________________ This is not a signature. |

Intaki Cannon thread seems to be open to me.
However, if it's fallen foul of the 90-day rule which I suspect it might, I'll have to check up on if this can be reopened.

I just noticed that the RP Corporation Recruitment thread on these forums isn't listed. Might want to chuck that alongside the Chatsubo link.

Actually, i think that one was more a discussion on which aspects of the real world people draw on with their roleplay.
This was the canon thread.

Yes, it's the 90 day rule. Thanks!
If you can't get it reopened, it may be time to make it afresh anyway.

Both threads are reopened, although you may want to freshen them up/make a new one.
