Edited by: Draconus Lofwyr on 19/06/2008 20:40:46 Allow Industrial characters with high enough skills to make a "Forged" BPC
Say I have the Research lvl 5, Hacking lvl 5, Industry lvl 5 and the bpo of the item I wish to forge.
I should be able to run a copy process with the outcome of Forgery instead of a number of runs.
What this will do.
In station, the "Original/Copy" Field shows, "Forgery" in the hold of a ship, it becomes indistinguishable from a "Copy" Blueprint from a ship scan or from looking at it in the cargo hold.
This way, the Suicide gankers will now have a risk of losing everything when they pop the hauler/shuttle instead of the potential gain for little loss.
Consider this a little extra risk to balance the risk vs reward that they see now.
Just to make it less of a tool, a counter effect is a t2 scanner with an additional lvl 5 skill has a % chance to detect the forgery

Let me guess, you were carrying expensive cargo in high sec without proper protection. Try some combination of the following:
- Get your ship more effective hp. The concord response time is fast enough that more hp is much more useful than having more regen. - Use manual WTZ to get around. If your in a small ship, nothing will be able to scan in time to catch you. - Get other players (or your alts) to escort your valuable cargo. If you get ganked, the escorts should be able to deal with their looting ship. - Carry less expensive cargos.

personally, I don't have a problem with this route of income making. While it is dishonorable, some prefer that route. I just wish to add a dynamic into it that will make it less of a guaranteed income, "oh look, expensive bpo, gank = profit" add a little mystery to it. I guess this falls under the same category as the requests for market warfare skills, like the ability to have prices adjusted based on the standings with the seller. I'm not asking for a nerf like a lot of people do, i'm asking for tools to fairly combat the issue. Let the ganking continue, but let the other side get a fair laugh. I find it interesting that when someone asks for an alternative solution, they must have lost something or got the raw end of the stick. I have seen plenty of "Fix This" posts that I thought I would offer a reasonable compromise. Considering the only feedback I receive was hostile from someone who may or may not make their living off this form of warfare is sad. What i could have said was "Make suicide ganking impossible, CCP fix this now or I quit" but no, I preferred to be constructive. You just chose to spew the pirate line of, "get over it, or get some friends". Are you worried that you may fall for this? You will notice the requirements for this route are fairly steep, so as to make this fairly rare, but possible. Do I want a Get out of Gank card? no. Do i want a fair chance to return the favor and possible Gank, the Gankor? Yes. consider it a potential two step trap, you gank, me. Concord ganks you, my alt gets your loot, I win, you go away and learn.

Just remove insurance when you got destroyed by Concord in a criminal action. It will be still possible to do suicide ganks in highsec, but you have to evaluate more, if it's worth it.

i would be flying so many shuttles and insured haulers at warp to 10 if I could make my cargo appear more valuable than it is. It's even better than the cargo bomb idea that would destroy all of your cargo. I would even spend the time to build fake faction gear. It is the ultimate carebear revenge.

Deep space transports (the ones with all the buff defense) were supposed to be the afk carebear's solution to this problem I thought

First off... making forged BPs would be a bad idea. If they were made to pass as a functional copy, then people would sell THOSE on Market or Contracts for billions instead. Then when you pay for it, travel all the way there to collect it, only then do you find out it's just a doodle on a napkin.
Protecting our possessions would be a nice thing however. And I've suggested a booby trap before, to mixed reviews.
The original idea was to place an undetectable explosive inside a Jet Can while mining. When someone flips it to provoke a fight, it explodes in their hold and cripples or possibly destroys the aggressor.
Now I understand it would be easy to work around, if only by having a cheap Alt flip first and then flipping them after the explosion, but it would take extra planning the Can Flipper may not be willing to spend for a cheap thrill.
If these explosives could also be kept in a hanger, they could protect the cargo as well. If/when you are suicide ganked, the Pirates suck all the contents from the hold. Nestled between the various odds and ends you had aboard, is a nifty bomb that tears them up from the inside. Remember, even if they only shunt the contents into space in another Jet Can, they still had to take it aboard and box it up first.
My personal vision was explosive damage going directly to hull, since the bomb is inside the shields and armor already. And if it's big enough, then they get reminded of what their Pod looks like again.

Yes, i was concerned about the market and contract abuse potential, thats why i made the caveat that as soon as you docked at a station it effectively had to get entered into a computer system and gets detected as a forgery immediately. Its only in space in a cargo hold away from the station computers that it becomes much harder to detect. And if your trading in space for isk, Forgeries are the least of your concern.
As far as the t2 haulers, They are limited by space, there are some things you just cant haul due to size, but that is a different issue.
and even freighters have been suicide ganked.

Edited by: Tyaleia on 23/06/2008 17:40:05 Kind of funny to be able to tell what KIND of blueprint is in your cargohold.
I bet with that scanner you can tell what color underwear the pilot's wearing too?
Just marking it as "Blueprint" would keep things interesting. Does away with the forgery scam/risk/confusion, but still leaves the gankers in doubt because that could just be a lead hybrid ammo blueprint, not OMGWTFPWNZERBEAM II. - - - -

No, no no. You're doing it wrong. This week we complain about nano ships.
