Not that the mechanics could easily be worked out by CCP ...it would be a vast undertaking to model orbital mechanics correctly and this would also pose serious problems with game play strategy, tactics...basically everything would change. I'm not sure it would improve the game much so I suspend disbelief. In space, you maintain speed by cutting the engines but I imagine that it's a drive that takes care of angular forces and presents a sort of "flying" experience in space to foment better tactical measures. If you are interested in a true space simulator check this out it's free and you can even simulate the apollo moon shots.

Edited by: hall monitor on 20/06/2008 01:06:35 But it's perfect for what it does. I love the game and will be playing for years.

Well it's not supposed to be one. Is World of Warcraft a medieval warfare simulator?

I have yet to see NASA launch a Cerberus into space... However, when that happens, then I will start worrying about the lack of simulation in EVE.. Kinda hard to 'simulate' space combat when there hasn't been any human space combat to simulate.

if it were, 1: asteroid belts wouldnt be as small as they are, asteroid belts is not a half ring of asteroids in the middle of nowhere, they stretch all around the solar system
2: no one would get out of orbit, ever 3: no sounds
that is all i can think of atm, i will be back to prove you wrong when i think of some more
lol jk, but you should be glad its not a space simulator, the reasons i posted are valid reasons, and there are many mroe reasons that we cant think of

Edited by: Letouk Mernel on 20/06/2008 01:06:30 This topic has been discussed a few times before, long ago, btw.
In any case, I like Independence War 2 : Edge of Chaos's system; Newtonian at the push of a button, otherwise you can let the "autopilot" control things and make the ship feel more like an airplane, in that if you release the throttle button the ship slows down and then stop.
Of course, the IWar2:EOC engine displays thrusters realistically: your engines turn on as you accellerate, then turn off as you coast at a constant speed, and if you break or change your attitude, reverse and stabilizer thrusters are displayed realistically.
Nice game. Old, but nice.

Lets be realistick, Anyone in here got any clue abaut orbit's, changing orbits, leaving orbits or making orbital entries?
Real space warfere is oh so so diferent... ------------- T'ey see me t'Rollin, t'ey hatin, pa'trolli. T'ey trying catch me writing dirty... |
