It is your connection. I've had the same problem some time back, and, just like in your case, other internet multiplayer games did not exhibit any problems. Traceroute showed some lost packets to EVE server, around 2-5%. I finally ended up having a tech from my cable company (TW at the time) come out to my house and he replaced the cable modem. The packet loss went away and EVE did not disconnect anymore (turns out EVE is much more sensitive to packet loss than other network games).
I'd also like to add that CCP tech support was close to useless in helping me to nail the problem. ...

Edited by: Lakche on 22/06/2008 22:48:56 I pay for the "service" just like I do for example my gym membership. If the gym is not able to be used for more than a day I get REIMBURSED.
In fact, an internet connection or better is noone else's responsibility but your own. To further your analogy, if the gym is not able to be used because you wrecked your car, you don't get reimbursed, even if you use caps and whine a whole lot. There's atleast one person in my corp who hasn't had any connection problems whatsoever, and the one lives on the westearn hemisphere.

If that's true, and it's also true that Limelight was the source of this problem before...
I've already cancelled my subscription - I'm not at all satisfied with the way CCP has dealt with this problem, let alone the unwillingness to pay for a game I can't play - but if that's true, then I'm writing up a mass-unsubscription petition. I can imagine several hundred players at LEAST that'd consider signing it at this point.

Please refer to these threads for more details:
June 22 Connection problems
June 20 Connection problems
Suffice to say that we're in talks with various ISPs and it is not a local problem with connecting to EVE, it is to do with the route your connection takes to get to the servers in London.

Is it while you're idling? If so, try loading up some busy chat channels like Recruitment and Help. I have this problem when I'm sitting in stations or whatnot, but as long as some data is coming my way (even chat or if I'm auto-piloting, etc) I don't usually get disconnected.

Well, I recently had my cable modem just go out and it got recently replaced and I still get this problem.
It only happens when I and my character/ship are idle. If I'm on auto-pilot, I'm fine. If my ship is sitting there shooting at space rocks, I'm fine. If I'm in some busy chat channels I'm usually fine. But if I leave it completely idle--like in a station--to go downstairs and get a drink or go to the bathroom, when I come back and try to do anything, I instantly get a disconnect. No exaggeration--it only takes a minute or two of idling to get this problem.
I'm no expert at this sort of stuff, but I know more than the average person, and what it seems like is that the server is not sending any sort of keep-alive signals or pings or anything when I'm idle, so my computer thinks the connection is lost. Then as soon as I try to do anything, the client realizes "Hey! I don't have a connection to the server! OMG!" and I get the disconnect message.
In other games, if I get a disconnect, the game just stops responding for a while, then I get a disconnect, or the game says "You've been kicked for inactivity". Eve is the only game I've had this weird issue with.

The gym would not reimburse you however if the road was cut off or congested between you and the facilities. If the road got congested just after they added in that new "gruntmeister 3000" to the gym, guess what, ITS STILL NOT THEIR FAULT that 'you' cant use the equipment.
Suck it up, and in the mean time go back to the gym and work off some of that attitude.
What about if I cycle to the Gym to use their new "gruntmaister 3000", on the way I decide to go shopping at "asdaburys" they've just mopped the floor, it's kind of slippery. I bump into Mrs. Jenkins from next door and she tells me about a special offer on doughnuts (buy 1 get 1 free) I decide to fvck the gym off and go home and get fat?
Surely now I will get some form of compensation for being "lardy"?

Speaking as someone who's been affected by this issue since the beginning and is quite unhappy with it: That is a terrible idea, you have no idea what you're talking about, please don't do it anymore.

step away from the internets. You are in need of a stupidity test. read the infiniband thread for a vague clue how the server cluster works and why adding in a global latency between two seperated clusters would be a monumentally bad idea.

No, he quite clearly stated that an internet connection is the players issue not CCPs, and also ISP issues are they players issue also, not CCPs. CCP dont really need to talk to any ISP but they are... ________________

Right - are people just stupid or what? 'The way CCP have handled this' seriously, can you read? Are you incapable of rational thought?!?!
Let me put this in a way you can understand...
CCP (the company who make the game) are not responsible (meaning they have no power over) your ISP or its backbone (ISP is your internet service provider, backbone is the thing that causing you issues)
This is not a CCP server issue - i have been connected 23/7 without any problems from the UK, this is entirley an internet route problem... who whine to someone who deals with that, it is not CCP. ________________

Edited by: Hooch Flux on 23/06/2008 11:35:59 This really sounds like your ISP, a lot of us in the UK had a problem very similar to this a few months back. Turns out our ISP was experimenting with Packetshaping to curb P2P sharing a peak times, aparently Eve-O packets look very similar to Torrent packets so their servers were borking us! Are you sure your ISP is not doing something similar? They normally don't give a warning about something like this because they know their customers will flee when they find this out!
Have you done a trace to the CCP servers based in London, when our ISP was doing this it showed one of the ISP's servers was half-assed letting the packets through!
Good luck, but I doubt their is anything wrong with the CCP servers that they havn't mentioned!
I say prep for dustoff, nuke the site from orbit...

Its so obvious you have never worked in any customer service type industry.
Hey CCP, Im paying you X amount of money, i just connected to your game now my internet doesnt work, its all your fault. The ocean is blue and sky is blue and its all yoru fault. My girlfriend dumped me and i got fired from my job and its all your fault. Reimburse me!!! (you're prolly not paying anything but paying in isk anyway, so someone else is paying). What an ***hole!! Be patient!! I get disconnected too, but come to find out there is atyphoon going on right now and my internet provider is wireless. So i'm not complaining, why dont you follow suit as well and stop complaining. At least think before you speak!!!! |

Thats actually game design, it is supposed to work like this because it is still running off the old dialup-ready connection system, which doesn't send keep-alive pings in order to stop draining bandwidth when it doesn't need to.
Thats my understanding of it, I have the same thing. -------------- Lord WarATron:
