Quote: LOS ANGELES - Comedian George Carlin, a counter-culture hero famed for his routines about drugs and dirty words, died of heart failure at a Los Angeles-area hospital on Sunday, a spokesman said. He was 71.

I was just about to post, I loved this guy.
It had to have been the heat this weekend in LA that did him in.
A terrible way to start the week!

At first I thought this thread was about Carlini (or w/e that guy that does impressions name is), and I was happy. Instead I am not only disappointed but sad too.

Truly a sad day and a great loss of one really funny comedian.

when I saw the title thread my heart dropped into my stomach and I hoped it was a joke. Truely a sad day. The man was a genius and he was always prepared to stand and fight his corner against the hypocrosy of religion and politics in America.

Just learned of this. Just awful. He was a brilliant comedian. He pointed out the absurdities of life that all to easily get ignored. He made us think while making us laugh at the same time.
Going to miss him a lot.

Yeah, I just found out today. The world of comedy won't be the same without him
RIP George Carlin, may you find the afterlife just as silly as the living world.

Sad loss. The world needs a George Carlin.
No other stand up is even close to his material.

He was always one of my favorites. I started listening to him when I was going through my parents records albums one day and found one of his 60's acts.
I love using his acts for links when people go on certain tirades in oope.
He certainly will be missed.

So it took God over a year to get his act together? Figures, he could't even stop iron chariots.

Edited by: HankMurphy on 23/06/2008 20:16:34 i've felt less loss over some family members tbh.
my all time favorite comic.
growing up, dad was cool, mom was fundy christian. dad and i would sneak into the basement and watch carlin on VHS, i never laughed so hard in my life.
early carlin, silly / carefree and pretty inventive (the cartoons were awsome). not something everyone thinks a kid should watch, but i was young and i'm not TOO fked up
as i grew older and changed so did his comedy. after his wife died you could tell the jokes changed just a bit, got quite a bit darker. he still went at it though and i think it was his best years.
the skit about the guy pondering his own suicide, the one talking about fencing off western states for prisons, and the endless endless rips on religeon and so many more... he taught me that if you cant laugh at the darkest things in life, YER DOIN IT WRONG!
I finally got to see him live just a few years ago in a little town called Williamsport PA. I'll never forget this...
he was warming up for a new HBO special and didn't quite have ALL the jokes down pat and he flat out told us that before he started. At the beginning of the show the jokes were not GREAT, just ok, but the house was full with laughter. As the night went he started getting into his good material, but the funny thing was the crowd was getting quiter. What was happening was all the posers, the ppl that THOUGHT they liked george carlin but never really listened to him were getting offended! So 75% that were laughing at the start were silent, but the 25% that knew and loved him could NOT maintain their composure. There was a point where out of the 200+ ppl in the place i could distincly hear my friend on the other side of our balcony laughing his ass off. I almost ****ed myself a couple times with tears down my face.. I'd give a finger to relive that show. The truth is, if Carlin never offended you, you were never listening to him. He didn't care, he could find a joke about ALL of us given enough time.
love him or hate him, imo we just lost the greatest comic this generation has seen. he will definitely be missed. he would call me a ******* ***** for saying it, one more thing that made him great ------------------------------ of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most |

It's a sad day indeed. I'm not sure if I should call it a terminal episode, negative patient care outcome, or a therapeutic misadventure, but like a magazine subscription, he has expired. -------- Bender: Ahhh, what an awful dream. Ones and zeroes everywhere... and I thought I saw a two. Fry: Don't worry, Bender: there's no such thing as two. |
