Edited by: Solid Res on 24/06/2008 05:03:05 I did some research to find just how many cruisers/hacs were speed fitted. To my suprise from looking at KBs Kills and Popular Ship setups threads I found far more people armor tanking their cruisers then speed fitting. Lots of MARs, Hardeners, and EANMs. So what percentage of cruisers (in Eve) do you believe are nano fitted? Could this idea that every cruiser is nano fitted be nothing more then a myth stemming from frustration of not getting a kill or being killed too much? Or do people just hide their super nano setups and since nano-cruisers are so elite you never see them on KBs?
And when I say nano I will take from other threads and say they need to go near the speed of Interceptors as that seems to be the big issue. With the argument being if a cruiser goes as fast as an Inty then they can't be tackled by an Inty without being killed quickly leaving less anti-nano options.

The reason you see those on killboards, is because they DIE. A nano ship doesnt die, thus is not on the killboard :P

That might be skewing your sample; a big part of the appeal of nano ships is that they're way harder to kill than a non-nano ship.

Most cruisers don't nano very well. If a ship can go 4km - 5km then nanoing makes sense. Otherwise armor tanking is the way to go.
Because few can nano, we mostly see the same hacs/recons nano'd with similiar setups.
Also many newer players have to fly something. And a cruiser is a decent step towards battlecruisers.

Yes but the cerb really needs snakes. _______________________________________________________________________________ EVE Online: The Hand-holding Age The truth about balance is that it doesn't exist. |

No, not really, Rogue Imps with Zors Hyperlink, polys, three overdrives and a good Squad Commander will make it go 3,3k, which is enough to burn out to 120k and fire ze missiles from it's superior range and not getting damage because most enemies will not hit that far out. Tackling has to be done by it's faster gangmates.
Tbh it's pretty pathetic not to nano it because speed and range are the only advantages it has over the drake, and it will need speed to make use of that range.
To answer the question of the op. Unless it's a caldari jamming boat or it lacks the low slots to do so, cruisers are nanoed pretty much 90% of the time if not more.

I don't see many nano'd t1 cruisers, maybe it's because they die when you look at them. _______________________________________________________________________________ EVE Online: The Hand-holding Age The truth about balance is that it doesn't exist. |

I've thought about getting the Caldari Navy Osprey to nano it. Just because it seems so contrary to how I would normall fit a Caldari ship much less an osprey (it's either miners or shield transfers for me. . .)

Try looking at a nano'd stabber and you might be dead.

How can you calculate that % ? How can u expect an answer?
Nano-fits are popular cause you can dictate range and get away when needed. Cruisers rarely out-damage or out-tank bigger ships, like BCs or BSs (unless worthless setups and/or pilots are involved). The key is to work on your strengths. For example saying that a Stabber or a Vaga are "nano-ed" is not that clever: these things are designed to go fast, not to tank ffs.
In fact few cruisers can gank and tank at the same time, and since buffer tanking them is not that clever in most occasions, and tanking alone does nothing unless you are baiting, all is left is gank + agility/speed. So yes, small to medium ships like cruisers and of course tackling frigs and ceptors are pretty much meant to be nanoed...
Some cases of properly buffer tanked cruisers can be found among Ruptures, Thoraxes, Arbitrators, Vexors setup and perhaps Sacrileges can work with an active tank. Join the Biggest Greek Corp! www.Mythos-eve.com - Join Mythos Channel in game! |
