Hello!
I have 2 EvE accounts and I am trying to run them on 1 machine. When I play EvE I use windowed mode 1024x768x8 and I've turned of the "occluded sun" option on both and in the prefs.ini file I put audio=0 in both. (My normal desktop is 1280x1024x32 x 75Hz (TFT)). I still get these severe crashes where my entire windows needs to be reinstalled because if I try to run anything (EvE itself, explorer, addaware, ...) it crashes. I run EvE on:
2600+ Barton (normal speed) Abit NF7-S (newest Nforce drivers (4.24)) 1 gb kingston memory (memtest86 does not give any error) Radeon 9800 pro 64mb (tried cata 3.9, 4.1, 4.3 and 4.4 and now I'm trying omega 4.4) Creative soundcard Live! 5.1
I figured that it may be the way I install EvE on my pc. When I install the second account in a different directory on my drive my desktop EvE icon gets rerouted to the second installation and there wil be only 1 desktop icon after I installed them both so I make a new icon and refer it to the first installation manualy. But how can I be sure that the 2 EvE's don't use eachothers resources?
In my logs directory I get a lot of these kinds of text files btw:
File created 2004.05.02 17:02:13

Don't have clue what it means, but the file says it is some kind of error message so i guess it's not good . Anyone else having these problems? Anyone else know a solution? Anyone knows how to install 2 EvE's the right way?

The way I use 2 instances of eve is to have a second copy of the CCP folder on another hard disk and run the executable from there.
I can run 2 instances on eve in windowed mode at 1024 x 768 and my 3gb P4 with hyperthreading enabled hovers around 80% cpu usage.

i can run 3 clients from the same install no problem other than an fps hit, i have a xp3200 64 on a asus k8v with 2gig of ram, when i try it from separate installs it lags to a halt, go figure, but even b4 i upgraded to a 64 bit cpu i could run 2 clients on a barton xp2800 no prob, same gfx as your btw.

if im reading this right you have to reinstall windows from scratch, if so the problem isnt eve its something deeper?

I thought it was deeper too, but I scanned my memory (with memtest86) and I replaced my harddisk and my mainboard and I still have the same problem. And I never had a crash with any other program. And I even got a crash like that when I had just 1 eve running. But thanks for the option!

System spc: Look at top post
Programs in background: Sometimes Winamp and sometimes Emule (p2p downloader), nothing else. I'm on the internet via a router and I opened the port on it. And I like to keep track of forums when I'm docked. That was never a problem although the last crash was with Emule in the background. P2p programs are known to crash applications, but this bad? And that still doesn't explain my KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED BSOD in the ati3daug.dll file. As I stated I used a few of the catalyst drivers already. I'm now using the omega 4.4 based drivers. |

I just found out that my ati card had to share an irq with my soundblaster card. I moved the soundcard to a different PCI slot now, maybe that was it all along! |

Edited by: Grim on 17/05/2004 15:44:28 I use two accounts at the same time, one runs at 12xx x 1024 (forgot the figures) while the second runs at 1024x768. Bearing in mind its not a great pc (i.e. 3200xp (overclocked 2.5 barton), 512 ram ddr400) i figure it runs well.
I didn't install 2 version of eve. I run the same exe twice. So once u log on with one char then just hit the exe again and log in again.
Works fine

I work with 2 accounts on my athlon 1Ghz with 384Mb mem with no probs other than a bit slower performance than usual.
I boldy copied and pasted the original EVE folder to antoher one on the same harddisk. Made a shortcut from the second EVE executable and pasted it onto my desktop. Run 1 first, boot it up completely and than boot the other.
I run Win ME and ctrl-alt-del all other applications xcept systray and explorer. further to that i have 1 30Gb HDD and a 4Gb for system (c:) issues. Eve runs from the 30Gb HDD.
For graphics i use a Geforce 4400 Ti with 64Mb mem
Hope it helps a bit.
Copy/paste, thank Bill Gates for that :) Those who aim at nothing, will most certainly hit that!

I have a problem
I am trying to run 2 installs of eve on my machine. But when I have both char's in space the second eve program closes. They are both installed in different directorys and I am running them in windows mode I have turned off all of the extras on both accounts. But I am not sure what could be causing the problem.
I am running the following system:
AMD 2200+ 512MB ram 40Gb Hdd (western digital SE 7200rpm, 8mb cache) Gforce FX 5200 Jetway Motherboard
Has anyone else come across this problem if so how did you get around it. We live for the one we die for the one |

i run two EVE clients on this system:
AMD Duron 800mhz 384mb RAM Abit KT7-Raid Motherboard 15.3 GB Maxtor HDD 80 GB Western Digital HDD GeForce4 MX 420 - 64mb crappy sound card crappy network card cable modem
i'll admit, it's a bit choppy when both clients are running. i have my main character use a client installed on the master drive (15.3 GB) and all my other versions of EVE (2nd client, chaos, etc.) installed into their own directories on the newer 80 GB drive. at first, i just used the "same client twice" method, but noticed that my older character would always chop real bad. since moving to the two-client/two-drives version, performance has improved.
just wanted to let everyone know that it IS possible to get two separate clients to run, even on a crappy POS machine like mine... :)

What do you mean with "extra's" whitestar? Does that inlude turning off the "occluded by sun" option under the generic tab? Otherwise try installing the newest driver for: Mainboard, vid card and soundcard, also check if you don't have any IRQ conflict between different cards. |

I have turned off occluded sun option on both clients and I have turned down all the graphics options that I can turn down. But for some reason when I undock both char's my second char that install closes. I do have another HDD in my machine but it is only 2gb so I dont know if I would be able to fit the second install of eve onto it.
My 40gb Hdd is split into 2 partitions if I install the second install of eve onto the other partition will that have any effect on performance? We live for the one we die for the one |

I saw on another thead a link to an external website that spoke about tweaking xp now most of what it went on about I knew already and did a couple of other little tweaks including moving my pagefile to my 2gb drive and am still running the clients on my C: drive.
I can now run both clients at the same time in space and it does chug a bit but I can live with that for the time being. I was planning on building another machine anyway for other reasons so when I do build it I will put 1 of the clients on that 1. We live for the one we die for the one |

12 channels sounds like something that has to do with your soundcard? What kind of sound card do you have? |

red are you per chance using an onboard soundcard? I found I had similar problems with the Nvidia SoundStorm onboard card. Only work around was to either not run two instances of the program or to buy a proper card (i.e. pci fitting card)

I can run two accounts from one install without too much problem... but then again, I'm running a dual PIII overclocked system. If you're gonna multi-task might as well do it with two solid processors :P
