Edited by: Supreme Sefi on 25/06/2008 17:43:46 Well, that depends on who you ask.
For instance... There is new poker software available to the public that allows for direct administrator influence and control. Its a perfect setup for Eve players to play poker for isk. Now, the features of the game, exactly match a live poker site (party poker to be exact) in all aspects EXCEPT the charging of rake. No games take chips, as a "hosting fee". No big deal you say? HA! Quite the contrary.
One popular Eve poker site, has yet to implement one of the unique features of this web-based poker system SIMPLY because they aren't going to rake in huge amounts of isk. To quote a man wiser than I, "I for one rather play with someone that treats poker as a fun game than an isk printing machine."
Well, they've made it clear they're only interested in bottom line profit, not actually providing a service.... Evidence?
Direct quote:
Originally by: GreedyPokerSwine A ring game rake is very important feature to have. While i love your software and am very close to buying a full copy now that i have tested it out without a ring game rake my investment payback from my players will be lower. Can this be considered, It should be fairly simple Just take a percentage off the total pot at the end. Pay the rest to the winner and put the rake in the dealers/players account.
See it for what it is, I just find it ridiculous that they're so greedy and isk orientated.

Yes.

Well I don't mind them taking a few mil rake out for themselves after all it's not easy for them because they (dealers) have to manage the games usually 2 or more and need to dedicate a lot of time to it and most I've seen do a good job. It's only fair really, I have fun if I win even more so if i lose oh well and dealer gets a little bit for his effort.

Right, on tournaments I agree. What I'm speaking of is their refusal to host ring games (cash games) without automatic rake. Nothing is required for a ring game to run, other than the table being available. Yet they WILL NOT run said games, without reaping a large reward 1-2% of pot per hand... Its just greed.

How about a nice game of chess? It's a bit harder to write cheating software in that one.

Then find your own ring and run it yourself. However, then this would be subject to scams and other trust issues. So its not simple greed, you are paying a premium because they are less likely to scam you since they have an interest in future income from other rakes.
Its a poker company, not a charity.

I DO run a poker "company" and we make money, but we're not after making a HUGE profit off players. We do take a rake, but its on chip purchase only. After chips are purchased, players are free to play tournaments, sit and go tables, or ring games with no rake. I just find it boggling my competition is so greedy... I've always known they were greedy, but the extent of their greed actually surpassed my expectations recently.
