if your hull starts smoking because of the damage, its a huge drain on your system (memory?). I have a pretty high end system, but it has trouble with those graphics. It would be very nice if we had an option to turn off those visuals :)
more people agree?
thanks,

ratting in deep 0.0 in a prophecy with hull damage ages back I remember getting about 15 fps because when the proph hits hull it turns into a gigantic ball of flames, so yea it would be nice to have this option.

While youy're waiting, try zooming out until the flame effects don't show anymore.
I hate signatures with no distinct break from the body of the post. |

Would be a temporally sollution yes, but would be alot nicer if they just made that option available. Actually being able to see your ship during playing sounds better :p |

The biggest problem is that these flames contain a memory leak.
I once flew a mission where I took some hull damage because I was trying it in a ship technically too small for the purpose (it's fun, you should try it sometime). When it happened, it hardly had any impact on my fps, and I continued on my merry way.
I eventually completed the mission, but it took me over an hour. By then, I was down from my initially 90+ fps to under 10 fps when zoomed out to maximum, and more or less a complete standstill when zoomed in (a death trap, because it takes half a minute to get the game to zoom out again). I only barely managed to get back to station. As soon as I was inside, the fps jumped back to 90, and I was able to play as if nothing ever happened. |

they stack onto each other or so. It's worst just after warps, really |

hmm, well i have hit hull damage before, and yeah, my ship was smoking and flaming, but i never really had a problem w/ framerate, my computer may have slowed down a little, but not to horribly bad, lol i actually like it when my ship gets down to structure, its rare, and gives you that adrenaline rush, i am thinking also, that you probably have premium graphics ON, since you say you have a high end system, i have premium graphics OFF, so the flaming ship really isnt a big deal
and actually i think they need to add MORE hull damage effects to the ships, that would be cool if they had that option, like maybe they could make the flames a little smaller, and add hull effects, like *****s, holes and fissures, and if your ship starts getting really low structure (like 40% or less) then it starts breaking up, lol, that would be cool, and then if you warp away, it takes a little more structure HP away from the stress of warp, lol that would be cool
anyway, if you have premium graphics ON, for study purposes, turn them off for a bit and go somewhere in a frig, like a .5 system, and let the rats peck you to like half structure (whenever it starts flaming) and then see if it slows your computer down |

We're using old style graphics. Try what you just wrote, this time:
-get damaged to hull -warp to somewhere -zoom in on your ship during warp -check the fps just after the warp |
