Having been the target of a Hacker, I remain frustrated in the lack of support for people who have been hacked in eve.
Here is my suggestions for an addition to the eve website.
I would like to see a full forum page dedicated to know hacking attempst and threats for keyloggers etc. I would like to see a bulletin Board type setup for CCP to post current and past hacking or phishing attempts used by unscrupulous people. It needs to be a bulletin board and not a forum because in time a forum becomes overwellmed with post that make the search for helpful information too time consuming and difficult. On that board, I want to see a full step by step procedure guide for someone to follow if and when they believe they have been hacked. On that Board, I would like to see a clear statement as to how CCP is activily pursuing known hackers, including a description of the privacy policy CCP has in place to protect the identity of those involved. I would like to see statistics on how many hackers have been uncovered and a breakdown of the actions taken against them. I would like to see a description of the policy of recovering a player who has been hacked. Included in this is a review of why CCP does not refund stolen ships. Why does CCP protect the market at the exspense of the player satisfaction when that player has been hacked. In this thread, I would like to see a full discussion of what a paid subscriber to eve expects from CCP when and if they have been hacked.
I am creating this thread for an open discussion and not to make a personal rant as to how I feel I was not treated as I expected to be treated. I am asking if others think a forum dedicated to hacking and phishing is useful.

I concur over getting into trouble over this as we speak - there needs to be an immediate mechanism to report suspected hacking incidents, especially when you may have two or more genuine petitions that need attention.
Between bug reports and game related issues, somebody should not be forced to make the choice between the game or their own concerns. |

I have just gone through a series of back and forth emails with a couple of GM's over my incident. While I think CCP feels they have dealt with my incident fairly, I dont.
I have been frustrated and continue to be frustrated with the number of phishing attempts I get daily. I dont know how it got started and I submit my hack was a direct result of a poor decision of mine. I just don't think CCP is doing enough to inform the eve community of what hacking and phishing scams are out there.
Some of these phishing scams are very good and link you to CCP's website. Its getting nearly impossible to know what is a legit scam and what isn't.
I keep getting directed to the eve forums each time i have a concern. Which means I need to spend hours scanning through threads to find the relavant material i need. Surely they could make this issue more of a priority as it truely affects the game time and in the end takes away from the game itself.

His point was that the main way to get your account keylogged is to go to risky sites, such as looking for bots or RMTing, and forget to have have AV/firewall software up to date and running. |

don't click on strange links in chat.....there is your security brief.
Outside of eve....eula is you guide. Googling for ds invuls and finding a site nice enough to take rl out of game money to sell you the item in game already has you on the wrong side of the eula fence. Go to a hacked **** site...if a key logger there the poster does not know if you play eve, they are looking for any keystrokes and don't care what it is. Go to a hackish eve site (like the item seller ones) and guess what.....they know you play eve. Or else you wouldn't be there.

Thanks for the advise guys, but i did not get hacked from a key logger and i did not get hacked from visiting a site to download a bot etc.. I know how I got hacked and it was none of those. I have been what I thought was a very careful person with my login id and password, but fell for an email that looked to me to be legit and it was not.
regardless, you people are missing my point of this thread. I want to discuss what I think CCP should add to the eve website for any and all players who get hacked regardless of the ways hackers are managing to steal peoples accounts.
Does anyone see any value in any of the items i suggested in my initial post?
Does anyone who has been hacked have any issues with how they were treated by any of the GM's that they dealt with.
Like I said, I am trying to suggest to CCP's GM's that I think there is more they can do to improve the process of advertising known hackers etc and ways for them to improve their handling of their account recovery?

Quote:NOTE: No employee of CCP nor one of its authorized representatives will ever ask for your password. Should someone claiming to be a CCP associate request your password, DO NOT GIVE IT. Instead, notify the support team immediately by sending an in-game petition or by using the GÇ£Ask a questionGÇ¥ form on our Support website. Please retain all related documentation in the event it is needed during a possible investigation. They do warn you.
And again:
Quote:You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your password and for any damage, harm, lost or deleted characters, etc. resulting from your disclosure, or allowing the disclosure, of any password, or from use by any person of your password.
They do warn you. If you're looking for obnoxious warnings everywhere, that would just be annoying for the rest of us who aren't going to fall for a scam or phishing attack anyways.
tl;dr: CCP can't save people from everything, there are warnings out there. |
