I just returned from being on a six month hiatus. Imagine my surprise when I find out that hi-security empire has become the most dangerous area in all of Eve for anyone flying in something worth more than 150M.
-Suicide Gankers (4+ alpha'd BS waiting at a gate, scanning your modules, and trying to kill you before Concorde kills them if they see something they like) -- They've tried to do this to me three times in twice as many days since I've been back
-People stealing your loot during missions or mining cans so they turn blinky red, hoping you'll shoot them so they can bring in their alt or friends to try and blow you up...Concorde free
-People salvaging your loot during missions to where you can't have your drones flying around for fear of accidentally popping the thief and having Concorde pop you and your expensive ship
-The Faction Navies are useless so militias (friend and foe alike) can freely move about in high-sec
-People smart bombing in front of trade hubs just for the fun of it
(Due to these things, all of which I've seen in the last 6 days, I have sold my officer gear, my faction gear, and my faction ship on the market and have contracts out for the rest. I now fly around in a T2 fit only).
****************************************************
I would feel more comfortable mining crokite in BoB space with no allies twenty jumps in any direction than I do mining, doing missions, or even just shopping in high sec.
Time to go back to 0.0 where there's some vestige of security. At least there, if I see someone I don't like, I don't have to wait for them to make their move, I can blow them up and ask questions later.

It's really true. 0.0 is expotentialy safer than high sec if your flying around in pimped out officer fitted ships.

Let's compare safety aspects:
Recon:
Hi-Sec: There's so many peeps crammed into local you have no idea half the time who's there or who isn't
0.0: You'll know instantly if hostiles show up (or potential hostiles) because local is generally lightly occupied...and if a ton of people drop in, well, you know that too and can move to a SS.
Salvage Thieves:
Hi-Sec: They can salvage your wrecks freely lest you become part of the Concorde winepress
0.0: You can blow them up before they even realign to warp away
Security:
Hi-Sec: Undock at your own risk...who knows who among the 400 inhabitants in local is going to set off 6 smart bombs at the gate
0.0: You have POS and also, you know if there's baddies in the area (going back to point 1)
Gates:
Hi-Sec: It's a crapshoot as to whether neuts will try and blow you away to get your mods.
0.0: You know if there are potential baddies in the system because...refer to point #1...and can adjust your route accordingly
Militia:
Hi-Sec: You have to scan through the local population bar every few seconds to see if a WT came into the system; since the faction navies are useless, they can freely move about high-sec
0.0: Militia, neutral, or WT, you know if unwelcome peeps are flying around in your system because...refer to point #1
****************************************** In summary...0.0 wins for security. In hi-sec, pretty much anyone can and will try to blow you away for mods or kicks, destroying themselves in the process. In 0.0, when non-friendlies arrive in your system, you know since local isn't clogged...and more importantly, you can either fire on them without cause or move to an SS and cloak.
The sooner I'm out of hi-sec, the better.

Only if you're carrying 2bil+ in cargo

true... but that's kind of the point isn't it? People who die in hi-sec do so because they're careless, whereas people in 0.0 are generally taking MUCH better precautions (such as using scouts, jumping to a POS, etc)
If everyone was as careless in 0.0 as they were in hi-sec, this thread wouldn't exist. ...

Actually, that's not necessarily true. Just the fact that you are flying one in highsec is enough for some people to gank you cos they know they won't lose hardly anything but you will lose half a billion even with insurance. And since the Freighters are way too slow, it doesn't matter if you're AFK or not. -- Sig design in training: Remaining time 30 years 20 days, 4 hours, 10 mins, 15 seconds. |

GTFO out of jita + motsu and you wont have this problem...
I am parttime carebear (other half of time i pvp, but that costs isks so i mission in faction ship). I have been: One time scanned for cargo/modules. Which was in perimeter just after i bought some stuff that wasnt being sold anywhere else. I just went away and no one ganked me.
Never had someone scan me down in mission
Never had drones pop random neutrals salvaging...
Never seen someone smartbombing in oursulaert (which is also a tradehub).
Get out of caldari space and stop whining.

What's the point of this thread? You're just pointing out the obvious. Everybody already knows 0.0 is paradise for carebears, where they can make a fortune mining moons and ratting while their alliance-mates fight off neighboring alliances. High-sec is just a place to screw around for shits and giggles, and low-sec is the endgame.

Edited by: Andrue on 06/07/2008 08:29:43 Only a few places in high-sec are significantly dangerous and the risks are easy to mitigate. As long as you don't rely on the autopilot and don't haul valuable cargo in cheap T1 ships you'll be fine.
Ore and wreck 'theives' only plague the busier systems. They are also easily countered and driven off by an organised group.

400 people in local? Huh. Well if you're stupid enough to play in that kind of overcrowded system you deserve what you get. Most systems have less than a couple of dozen people in them. -- (Sarcastic mission running veteran, 4+ years)

You can't just gank a freighter in highsec with a few torp ravens.
I highly doubt this happens on a regular basis, so proof or stfu.

I suspect this thread is just another lame attempt to attract victims to the 0.0 meat grinder. It's amazing how many people in 0.0 are begging to have us come and share their wealth. The numbers speak for themselves I feel. Empire has no need to advertise because it's where most characters want to be. 0.0 OTOH seems to be in constant need of advertising in a never ending attempt to keep the numbers up. -- (Sarcastic mission running veteran, 4+ years)

PROTIP: Don't fly officer fitted faction ships in high traffic areas. Of course there will be gankers at the gates because everyone and their mother flies through the system, which increases the chance of stupid freighter and officer fitted CNR pilots coming your way significantly.
While it's no secret that the insurance system is horribly broken, there's still a certain number of million ISK they have to be able to get from you before they want to gank you.
You can still AFK autopilot safely through high sec as long as you don't carry cargo/fittings worth enough for them to gank you. I do it all the time and even though they scan me every once in a while, they have no reason to kill me, since there's much better prey coming their way anyway.

The reason 0.0 is so empty (I traveled through 8-12 systems there and nothing but empty local) is not even all that much due to fact you can get shot there without CONCORD showing up. Its NBSI that causes it, as well as low-sec gate camps leading into 0.0.
I would doubt if I trained for a Deimos and flew it into 0.0 that I would find a lot of solo targets to gank without getting some corp or alliance on my tail at the next gate, provided I'd even get there to gank someone.
With NBSI it isn't a risk that you will get killed, its a certainty, so people stay in High sec. I'd have no problem moving to low-sec or 0.0 with my Hulk and other ships, if I could make more ISK there when taking in all the ships and pods I will lose, compared to the relative easier means of making ISK in High sec.
Added to that, I've been to both 0.0 and low-sec, the latter is nothing but gatecamps and camping out a station for hours and hours hoping you can gank them before they warp out or re-dock.
0.0 is not a place to solo much of anything, you'll be constantly needed (even as an industrialist) to grab your guns to defend the alliance or wait in POS/SS for hours till the system is either 'safe' or a big enough fleet arrives to fight back.
I have better things to do than wait for hours just get a kill in my Blasterokh, I'll go do missions, plexes and industry instead ------------------------
