Just wondering how many of you knew it's about -
It started a while back, had some features in E-ON, it even got it's own website, http://www.eve-ccg.com/
Sadly it's pretty much dead now, and will take a huge leap of faith (financially in terms of purchasing cards) to get it back up - I think even ccp/Whitewolf may have thrown in the towel.
It is marketed though, which is why alot of the people that did get the cards etc think it failed so miserably.
So i'm wondering have you heard about the eve-ccg? I want to try and gauge whether it's down to poor marketing, or a poor market.
(ccg = Collectible Card Game.)

I've heard about it, but I have absolutely no interest in such card games anyway.

It's sad that it's in the state you describe, but it's not surprising. Seriously, who expected success out of a niche genre, of a niche product, based off a niche video game?
That said, I still hope it stays afloat. I loved the designs and artwork on the cards.

Hope it can be implimented as an ingame-game as part of ambulation, hell they might even get away with charging r/l cash for ingame booster packs (give everyone the equivalent of a fixed deck starter kit so everyone can play, see how awesome it is, and get hooked), impliment the cards into the market so rare/shiney cards sell for a decent bit of isk, make it so that players could set up tournaments etc. As was said, it is very niche, but most people who would play it would be eve players anyway...

i bought an Exiled starter set and quite enjoyed it moving cards around between regions is quite a nice mechanical variation on the usual CCG mechanics
i do find it somewhat dissapointing that it's looking like there wont be any further expansions
however for me the card game fad seems to be over ... it was fun while it lasted but i'll never be one of those people that trawls through ebay trying construct a deck that will hopefuly one day be used against someone of similar inclination

Edited by: MotherMoon on 06/07/2008 17:10:56 It's a really great card game I got seattle to carry them too.
the game plays more that a board game than a card game.
However it's dead, dead as shit. which is sad because it outsold magic in some placing in europe in the Q2-Q4 of 2007. so in other word it's all down to bad marketing. actully I have 4 friends at college that now have an eve deck but hate the eve mmorpg. it's that well made.
I've been on the forums a couple times and it's been about 8 months without a word so honestly I've given up. I think the biggest isser with the game is that after one deck, you set. the way the card game works, going the with the board game feel, all you need is one deck and that's it your done you can beat anyone. the reason is everyrescouse you play can be taken as you build forward bases and such that can be taken in a blink of a eye.

For the Eve CCG in particular the miserable sales can be summed up like this: You could pew pew in a virtual online world with 30k others at the same time with no problems finding someone to play agianst, or you could purchase a set of cards and hope to hell someone in your local area not only has a deck but also is willing to play against you. Choices choices.
And as for CCG in general Tokka hits it on the head.

Oh yes indeed.
I heard about the EVE ccg when it was released some years ago, but later it went off my radar and forgot about it. I play Magic Online and I love it, and some time ago while listening to a podcast about ambulation and how it would include games such as poker (a game I don't personally care much about), I had to think again about the EVE ccg and how utterly awesome it would be if they incorporated an online version of it as well.
I did know some RL people back in college who played Magic, but not anymore these days, and the best thing about MTGO is that you can have a game anytime you want with any of the other thousands of players online at any given moment.
It also makes business sense for CCP: a revenue source with next to nothing variable costs (while the R&D side of the fixed costs are already done, aside from the software aspects of trading & communication between players), and no need to find a new target market or distribution / promotional avenues.

Eve, imo, really doesnt have enough publicity to make them worth it, and it had even LESS when the CCG launched,
