So I ran my script to see what was gone with the patch, and look...
Deleted: Mining Drone - Improved UNUSED Mining Drone - Elite
These drones dropped from npc convoys in 2003 and were in perfect working order. Why did CCP destroy BILLIONS worth of drones?
There's other stuff that was deleted that I can understand (like the defunct mines), but why the drones? People obtained them through normal gameplay mechanics and they worked fine, not to mention them being highly valuable collector items.
I'm not amused.

We an only hope Entity wont go to fanfest. Nobody would be safe from his wrath.
EDIT:
WAIT! Is the Impoc still there? WHAT HAPPENED TO THE IMPOC??? The game has a tutorial that gives you a mining laser and a railgun and tells you to go shoot rocks and red crosses. It teaches you nothing else. It's been that way for 8 years, so are you really surprised that there are people who aren't aware that this is a pvp game? --Jafit McJafitson |

I also lost a bunch of mines. Luckily still have my Harvesters and my (unique?) Tutorial Attack Drone. If CCP would work at a museum I'd bet they would just throw the old stuff with the garbage whenever they want to put in something new. This. IIRC it was part of the trader tutorial at one point. I recall doing it with my trader/industry alt at one point long time ago. |

The mines are likely to be reinstated; the drones I don't have any plans to reinstate right now as there doesn't seem to be any clear sign that they were being intentionally distributed, and names like "Improved UNUSED" make me wary. I am of course open to further discussion on this issue, but we had a lot of types caught in the sweep that very definitely *shouldn't* have been in player hands, and we're generally erring on the side of caution in this regard. |

See thread a few posts down:
CCP Greyscale wrote:Ok, so.
Bettik and I have been running a cleanup programme on our data over the last six months or so. We cleaned out a lot of internal crud in our data revisioning system before Christmas, Bettik reviewed every type in the game over the holidays to make sure the "published" flag was set correctly in all of them (this governs what's eligible for autolinking and contracts), and in January I went over the same data to try and clean out all the obsolete types sitting around in our system.
The criteria was basically that anything that should never have been legitimately in player possession, wasn't a current testing/GM tool, and wasn't likely to be made available in the immediate future, was flagged for deletion. We ended up deleting 1031 types, out of a total of 11430.
Out of these ~1k types, there are nine that I'm now looking at as candidates for restoration: the four mines, their blueprints, and obviously the Mimir blueprint. The Mimir was a straight-up mistake; the mines I'd flagged for deletion based on the (mistaken) assumption that we'd removed the actual mines themselves years ago and only the blueprints were in circulation, and it seems that when you delete a type, it also (sensibly, in retrospect) deletes the type's blueprint.
The good news is that when we do this sort of delete, the server keeps track of the deleted items for a while, and we made a copy of those data last night, so we know who owned what quantity of every deleted type. We don't have any of the information on blueprint research, so any returned blueprints will have "default" values (which I don't see as a huge problem for something that's primarily a collectors' item).
We don't do this sort of delete very often (as you can probably guess from how many types we caught in this sweep); there is a process for getting them reintroduced, but we have a few technical cobwebs to clean out of it before we can make use of it, and at this point in time I can't 100% guarantee that this will work properly. We are however actively pursuing reinstatement of the abovementioned items, and we'll keep you updated on our progress. I'm hoping to have this sorted in the next couple of weeks; normally I'd say "within a week" but fanfest next week makes all our estimates a little less predictable right now. In the meantime, contracts containing these items are likely to have issues, but otherwise things should continue to work normally. |

Not that they are worth anything and I am aware it then was not possible to "make" them, but it was kind of nice having them as a part of clone jump history.

I wantz my mines back! , also i thought it was customary for CCP to give players 2x Plexes every time you remove an "non player item" from players that they have somehow gotten their hands on ..?
I also wonder, did the Jovian Body parts from early 2004 survive this sweep, if not i know some one that will rage after spending billions getting quite a few of them :P |

Perhaps CCP should have given us a fair warning prior to removing those items? There are many players who have spent billions (equivalent to hours of gameplay) or burned PLEXs (oh guess what, stupid me again!!!), to obtain those items.
There was absolutely no gain for CCP or ANYONE for deleting those items. |

And the UNUSED? I spent 3 billions to acquire 2 x UNUSED ones. Or at least, could you replace those with HELLHOUNDS or something equivalent in value or rarity? I am sorry, but I generate my ISK via burning actual cash. This kind of random deleting discourages folks like me from ever purchasing PLEXs. |

Ok, great.
Now, the improved UNUSED drones were never named like that. Someone else that thought they were not used renamed them to that years ago. They dropped at the same time as the Elites. You should just remove the "UNUSED" part and restore them. Besides, they're worse than the elites anyway, but just as rare.

CCP forgetting that people don't just PvP and PvE in eve, some just collect weird crap\history about the game other just cruise about visiting systems etc, eve's a sandbox after all.
Removing historical or weird crap, seems a little odd and kinda pointless (same goes for the renaming in my mind but you've already started with that).
If you want an item removed from the game for whatever reason, nerf it down to 0 or just remove the drop. I'd also think you had a way of querying how many of x item is currently in circulation and if it's still out there, leave it be.
Also, Perpetual motion generator T2 is real, it's pointless and I love it, especially as I can never find it on contract or anywhere else :) |
