Morning Everyone,
Another question here... How good are the Amarr in PvP combat, specifically in the terms of their lack of versatility in regards to damage types? I've been playing an Amarr character for my months of game time in Eve and am starting to think toward PvP viability. I know that there isn't going to be one answer to this question... As personal skill cannot be factored in when talking about generalizations, however all things being equal what's the scoop?

Edited by: Billy Sastard on 09/07/2008 14:28:21 Amarr are just as viable in PvP as any other race. For the most punch you will want to look at the tech 2 ships. On the tech 1 side of things the most viable ships are their battleships and the harbinger BC, however to really be effective in the battleships you need to have 15m+ sp focused on them. Amarr is definitely a little weak on the cruiser front, with no single do-it-all ship(omen has ok damage but poor tank, maller has an awesome tank but very poor damage, the arbitrator is sort of a middle ground but you have to have really good drone skills to be effective). We also have one of the toughest frigates in the punisher.
The main drawback to amarr is that you will need to have your skills fairly well optimized in order to see good results from your ships where some other races are a bit more low-sp friendly. -=^=-

yeah, there's no solo-pwn-mobile in the cruiser section of amarr (insert crowds of noobs wailing).
This is an MMO. You're never going to get a fair PVP fight. Why would you want a single do all ship? It's simply going to die anyway to the large gang that smacks you. Bring friends, always.
Amarr modify their damage by switching crystals for more thermal or more EM. Amarr have a few missile using ships. They have a cruiser drone boat.

Amarr are very good I think at big-ship PVP. Their battleships are popular. The Arbitrator is awesome, too, but underappreciated. The Amarr T2 line has some great choices. The T1 frigates and the other T1 cruisers are uninspiring for PVP.

The Amarr excel in several areas.
- Their battleships are very nice, possessing very tough tanks while pumping out the damage without much problem.
- Their crystals are the fastest-switching ammo type, meaning one second you could have an optimal of 7km, the next 35km. While keeping the tracking of the short-range guns, this means you can bake things that try to stay at range, making them very deadly (Scorch is your friend).
- Their T2 lineup possesses three excellent nanoships, the Curse, Zealot, and Sacrilege. The Curse can disable other nanoships and help break the tank of targets, whereas the Zealot and Sacri can do significant damage from range.
- Their CBCs are arguably the best in game, really only rivaled by the Sleipnir and Claymore - instead of being speed-based, the Absolution and Damnation are armor-focused, with the latter being of tremendous assistance to any armor tanking gang. It is also an extremely tough ship to kill.
- They have sexy textures and shapes .
- Their guns don't take ammo (or give you several hundred to thousand rounds before breaking), useful for long patrols where ammo could become a concern. Much like blades, lasers don't need reloading .
- The T2 frigate lineup is nothing to sneeze at either. The Malediction and Crusader are two of the premier inties in game, the first a solid tackler and the latter a dogfighter, and the Retribution is a great ninja ratter or PvE AF.

Amarr are very competitive in PvP especially after the boost. Though it needs some skill intensive training to be somewhat effective. I'm pure amarr specced at 11m SP, but Im cross training for matar armor tanking ships like cane/phoon just for kicks. Nothing major, just spaceship skills and projectiles are skills totally out of line with amarr. Missiles skills are essential for Sacrilige, probably one of the best hac in the game atm. So im loosing about 2 months depending if I want t2 large projectiles. Meanwhile im just enjoying flying inties/BC/cheap fleet/gang BSs (geddon and apoc)
