Beloved CCP employee,
there are a few questions I would like to ask. I intend to in no way be political or promote my hopes or expectations for the game, but merely ask on the offchance that you will help me satisfy my curiosity. Hence I will refrain from asking about any "particular" issues.
Since the lastest live dev blog has been canceled, it has been a while since the players got a glimpse at what the devs are crafting in their forges.
The questions that burn particularly on my mind are the following:
- What is currently being worked on besides new missions?
- What balance issues are being looked at?
Any official input will be *wub*-endorsed!

If this doesn't work create a 'disrespectful' alternate thread where you tell them to copulate with themselves if they don't answer.
That should cover all the bases.
Although, a tsundere thread, where you don't really care if they answer but wouldn't mind if they did, might also be helpful. -

Over the summer the team is focusing its attention on improving the EVE experience in a lot of ways. We're going to be doing a little bit more high profile explanations of what is going on behind the scenes as the summer progresses. It is safe to say at this time that we're going to see a lot of new missions, continued work on Premium Graphics support for Mac users, and a number of requested UI enhancements by the end of the season.
In addition the planning work is well underway for the Winter Expansion (as yet unnamed) which we'll be ready to talk about more at the start of Fall.

Excuse me for asking such an impertinent question but why work on a Mac version of Premium whilst the Windows version still has many unresolved issues? (just compare the number of posts in each of the "Client, Hardware and Software Issues and Resolutions" boards and also the number of posts related to crashes of the Windows client in other "help" forums)...
The majority of Eve players use a Windows PC - I'm willing to bet there are VERY few people out there that use a Mac to game on (most Macs are used for design in offices), and I would imagine that the kind of people who do play Eve on one are likely to be able to and proabably do use Boot Camp to switch to Windows to play games due to the vast range of games supported on this format.
tl/dr? - macs are not gaming machines, they're for graphic designers and people with insufficient intelligence to handle more than one mouse button.

Originally by: Elysarian Excuse me for asking such an impertinent question but why work on a Mac version of Premium whilst the Windows version still has many unresolved issues?
Because the same unresolved issues exist on the Mac client, and will be fixed in parallel (since the two are essentially the same). In the meantime, the lack of Premium content is a (long-)unresolved issue on the Mac and has gathered a lot of priority over time.
Also, if you think there is any difference between an OSX PC and a Windows PC, you're living in the past…

Currently, a multithreaded server is pretty much impossible (EDIT: Not impossible but it would introduce a whole new load of issues that wouldn't happen with a single-thread server). I was under the impression that since much of the client is being rewritten in C++ they'd be able to multithread the client.
Now that I'd want to be the guy(s) doing it, to be honest. Multithreaded code is hard as hell to do correctly.
AMD Multicore drivers ftw. EVE's CPU load spreads nicely 60-40 across my CPUs 2 cores, but that's not proper multithreading, it does work though.

I'm a Mac guy. My daily driver is a MBP and has been for 3 years. Before that I ran a linux laptop (Fedora, then Ubuntu).
We considered a lot of solutions to get EVE on OSX. Transgaming, by far, offers the best set of options to CCP. They have the resources to dedicate to helping improve the client on OSX on a continuous basis. They have a big testing lab that lets them run the client under a lot of different user scenarios to help find and eliminate problems related to the matrix of hardware and software you find on the Mac. And they can do most of those things for Linux as well.
EVE digs in to all the nooks and crannies of DirectX. If there are bugs there, we find them. The Trinity 2.0 engine, which runs the Premium Graphics Content is a leading-edge piece of technology. Transgaming has stepped up to the plate to help get it running on OSX and we need that level of support. As in all partnership relations there can be mis communications and challenges, and we've had our share - on both sides - but we have an end target in sight and we're working towards it.
All that said, I play EVE on my MBP almost every day. You may have noticed recently a big improvement in the stability and frame rate of the EVE client on OSX (I know I did!) We found and fixed a few things under the hood that had a big positive effect, and we're likely to find a few more even before the Premium Graphics are ready for general Mac / Linux use.
EVE on Mac has had a rocky launch and we apologize for that. EVE is always a moving target - just as Transgaming thinks they've solved one set of problems, we release a big content patch or technology upgrade, and they have to go back to the workbench and play catchup. Consider this: EVE on Singularity in China, which has a large development team standing behind it, STILL has not been upgraded to Trinity 1.1, and they're a ways off from getting Empyrean Age, and they're using the same hardware as every other Windows client!

I was just jabbing at you with the fact that CrossOver has allowed for Premium gaming on the Mac for a few months now, but on the other hand, yes, it certainly lacks the stability of the transgaming client. I know I did a slient happy wave the day I noticed that the old continuous crashing/restart required bug was gone, and it certainly comes back with a vengeance under CrossOver…

/me sighs at the ignorance of this comment
Ok, here's the deal dude: the teams that work on the various clients are separate from each other. Development of the Mac and Linux software isn't even handled by CCP for the most part, it's done by a third party (Transgaming) that coordinates with CCP. So relax, making the Mac/Linux version less craptacular than it is now doesn't affect the devs ability to fix/add more goodness to the Win version.
Secondly, we're paying for this game just like you are and when Trinity was released in late-November we Mac/Linux users were told that the premium content was coming in January. In the intervening months we've heard nothing (well, very little) about the status of premium graphics. Well, it's now July and still no word on when we get to enjoy what the rest of you have been using for over 6 months. The dev gave a brief comment to us Mac/Linux folks to let us know they haven't forgotten; in other words an attempt to communicate to part of their customer base what's happening with the game.
Third, your old, tired and incorrect "facts" about the usage of Macs are....old, tired and incorrect.
TL/DR - Getting the Mac/Linux client to suck less doesn't affect you one damn bit; also you're ugly and uninformed Carebear? You say that like it's a bad thing.... |

Dear CCP,
This is probably the wrong place to ask, but devs have already answered questions related to this topic, so here it goes. What are you going to do about Transgaming and the offical linux client? I'm sure someone at CCP has used both the official client and the windows premium client with wine (or CrossOver Games), and realized just how horrible the official client is. Stability, better performance, less bugs, and premium graphics are all found in wine (or, again, CrossOver Games). Not to mention the philosophical issues related to open/closed source, or Transgaming "stealing" wine's source.
