Hi all,
I've got a bunch of navy dog tags that I assume would be worth both iskies and standings if I could just get them to the right locations to sell them.
Unfortunately they're all in the wrong places. For instance, I have about 50 caldari navy tags, from captain to admiral, sitting in Lonetrek. They're marked with the skull, and I am going to go out on a limb and figure that the Caldari state isn't going to let me undock with them in my cargo hold, let alone move them somewhere.
So, how do I move these tags to somewhere that they're actually worth something? Better yet.. how the heck did I manage to get them into that hangar to begin with? I know they've been sitting around for years - and rules change over time - but as far as I can see these tags are kinda 'trapped in the station'.
Any ideas? Thanks WHeis

Just dump them into an appropriate ship for moving stuff and go. I've moved tags that have the "criminal" flag on them and have YET to even be NOTICED by the local gendarmes. The warning is just there for RP purposes I think. I've never heard of anyone being attacked by local NPC police over it.

Just put them in a shuttle or interceptor and you should be fine.

If I remember right theres less than a %10 chance the Customs officials will scan you. And it is possible to picks routes that get around them.

We move "contraband" all the time, just make sure you have good inert (Faction frigs are best for this purpose IMO, been using the same Gal Navy Comet now for over a year), and you will be fine, WTZ on your next gate and don't dilly dally.
I have only been scanned once in all my time moving around, and got busted with a hold full of boosters in a 1.0 sys. I still ran, nover touched me however it did hurt my standings but not too bad.

It doesn't matter if you move them in a shuttle or a plated battleship, the customs won't do anything.
The tags say they are "illegal" in the space they are from, but there is no penalty for being caught with them. Look up some of the boosters (or their no-use non-booster counterparts of the same name) and you'll see what I mean.

I ran a Minnie agent in Amarr space for a bit and ended up with some Amarr tags. When I attempted to move them I was caught... twice.
IIRC, I suffered a tiny sec status hit, a joke of a fine, and some of the tags were confiscated.

Faction customs usually take their time to lock you and scan your cargohold. If you manually transport the "illegal" stuff on something light (like a shuttle or nanoed frig) they ususally won't be able to notice anything. ---

I've never had them attack me, just always gotten an eve mail saying they noticed and that's it. No penalties at all, unless this has changed in the last few patches.

When contraband items and Customs Officers were first introduced, they were harsh, instant detecting ship killers.
They've been toned down massively sense then.
After a long delay, I moved some tags a couple of weeks ago. I used a nanoed Frigate, and did NOT travel afk. Strictly manual warp to zero and immediate jump. I had no problems.
Play nice while you butcher each other.

Though dog tags are listed as illegal there are actual NO consequences for transporting them around. You get no standing loss, no fine and no destruction of your ship.
Compare the "Legality" tap of dog tags with real contraband such as narcotic items (frentix, blue pills, etc.) too see what the difference is.
Some times the custom NPC's might send you angry mails about carrying contraband, but from the mail you can see again that there are no real consequences for being caught with these kind of items.

What I used was an alt in a shuttle for most of the transport of illegal and contraband, trained it up to fly an industrial for larger cargoes (all of an hour or so)
I let the alt take the hits when I did get scanned down (rarely) and managed to move a good bit of stuff around that way.
Course I used a secure canister in space to avoid the need for contracts.
Since i stopped with missions for a time, I deleted the character mainly so I could roll new scout alts as wanted to look for systems in other empires to possibly move to.

Update: I got the tags moved out of Caldari space.
I kinda goofed at first because I headed toward Amarr space with them. Lucky for me I noticed the 'skull' hadn't vanished when I hit Amarr controlled space. So, off to Gal space I went.
I used a faction frig with inertials in all the lows. 1.5-2 seconds to warp. No problems at all.
So now I need to figure out what to do with these things. I know I can just sell them on the market, but I was under the (probably incorrect) assumption that I could hand them in to increase my standings with the Feds.
I asked in the in-game help channel and was told to find a data center to take them to. I found a data center but all that was there were a couple agents in space offering me missions - nothing related to handing in all the Cal Navy tags.
When I tried using the LP store in a station, all I got was 'you have no LP with this company so you cannot use the LP store' as a response.
So I'm guessing that these tags have no real value (other than isk) unless I want to start churning missions for the Fed.
At least I got them out of Caldari space. It was kind of a rush, smuggling stuff. The biggest kickstart to my brain was when my cordless mouse battery died in mid-warp and I had to replace them before I got to the gate (plenty of colorful metaphors in that episode).
Thanks for all the help! WHeis

People... there's no need to be careful with faction tags. Your ship will not get blown up, there will be no standing losses, etc. They may be classified as illegal, but that's about it. Play the Celeste Lottery! |

You can shout it out and out, yet people still need to post how they get around customs without them WTFPWNING your vessel.

There are other cargoes that will result in the hits. So the tactics used there will help the alt feel better, plus help them when they want to move the true contraband around

Ok, now that we know nothing happens, like the man has asked. What to do with them now? Especially if you have no LP in any current corps down there. What else can they be used for besides putting up on the market to sell?

They can be used for datacenter missions which gain you faction standings.

Edited by: Drenan on 11/07/2008 07:43:56 Empire navy tags can only be used in the appropriate LP stores, or sold on the market.
Pirate faction tags, (gurista, blood etc etc) can be handed in to relevant datacentre agents, or sold on the market.
Edit: certain rat tags can also used to unlock extra rooms in certain missions.
