You are aware of the fact that you are some 5 years too late with this ?
I mean there are lots of comunity sites already existing (Chribba andg Grismar running the most popular ones) with everything the wiki can offer just already present. It will take some time for the Wiki to fill with info and it will be still behind the existing sites.
Call me pesimist, but it will be mostly the Item database and some general articles. Nothing more. --- SIG --- CSM: your support is needed ! |

Just thought i would pop my head in and say hi o/ and tell you that we have set up quite a good moderation system for when we launch the wiki that should compltely stop most types of purposefull vandalism.
We hope in time this process wont be needed, but dont fear we have a system in place -------------------------------------------------------- ôWar is not the dreadful end to all things as mankind fears. Conflict brings balance to nature as it adapts, mutates, and transforms itself into something stronger than before. Mankind is the master of nature because we can choose those mutations on our own accord. We can accelerate the inevitable dominance of a species. Through war, we can make ourselves stronger at the time and place of our choosing. War is not hell, far from it. War is beautiful. War is divine |

As I understand it any edits you make has to be checked by CCP or ISD before it goes live in the EVElopedia, at least at first. And if you vandalize the EVElopedia intentionally they'll ban you.

Hardly. If you posted a dev blog saying "The sky is blue!" you would have:
...posters stating with much indignation that you should be assigning developers to fixing the lag problems instead of examining the sky. ...posters saying they are ****ed off that CCP is withholding information on the sky color. ...posters demanding that the sky color be returned to its previous value, as it was fine the way it was. ...posters flaming everyone that CCP knows what they are doing, and if the sky color needed to be changed, then it needed to be changed. ...posters threatening to cancel their 50 accounts due to the sky color controversy. ...posters saying "can I have your stuff?" ...posters linking the announcement to the CCP conspiracy theory of the week. Often, this is completely unrelated to the posted topic. ...and one snarky comment from Tarminic.
You can't win. Welcome to Internet forums, where people will complain about anything!

<sarcasm> Good. Pre-review of edits make me feel much safer since I can quote a GM saying "I've just discussed with my colleagues about your case. Whether you finished the mission or not, you are not safe in the mission spot. In some mission, the factions reset according to the time. When the time comes, whether you finished the mission ot not, the factions will come up again." </sarcasm>
For those who have never run a mission, that may be believable, but I don't think anyone else will agree.
The point is: Noticing errors in submissions will be very hard with a very detailed knowledge of the game. Without editors possessing that in-depth knowledge, getting pure lies through to the wiki should be easy.
Ergo, make sure the ISD YARR staff is removing graffiti and slander/smack, but don't write anywhere that the wiki is accurate. And if you call it a wiki when every change has to go through an editor, call it what you want, but it isn't a wiki.
That said, I applaud your effort to bring Web2.0 to Eve. -- Ceterum censeo reinforcements needs to stop shooting drones. |

I like this bit about item databases, but will it be part of the wiki or just in the form of a more conventional encyclopedia? Because I want badly to get my hands on item descriptions - the ones that are there now suck about 80% of the time. ------------------ Fix the forums! |

Will we need to log in when using the OGB, and if so will it use the same login process as the forums? If you are doing so, then while you're at it perhaps you could also hire someone to fix the login redirect loop bugs that have been around for a few years. |

About time you got around to it. I do hope you get the writers involved as well so that it can become as comprehensive a resource as the CIVilopedia is for the Civilization games.
What I mean is, don't do it half-arsed and make a glorified item database. Include hyper-links to background stories, item descriptions the works. I want to be able to spend the better part of the day nosing around by starting with a simple query like 'Amarr' and learn about lasers, Blood Raiders, slavery, early expansion etc.

Edited by: Rhys Onasi on 16/07/2008 19:51:10 You said it will be compatible with the ingame browser on rendering pictures and text. Judging from the descriptions of what this E-Lo is going to be, that sounds great!
What about ingame links? Like the ability to right click an item in the wiki, and be able to select "view market details"? Is that going to be possible with the MediaWiki's capabilities?

Yes. I like that idea. Perhaps the top half the wiki page can be about the item's stats. Then you can have some basic strategies/tactics that are more new player friendly written below that, then at the bottom have a backstory article written about the item, with hotlinks to Chronicle and such.
This has a lot of potential, and I hope to see you all editing it with me once it comes out!

Thanks, this is great news!
Any more info on the organization/structure/categories of the wiki?
From the RP side, I'd be interested to see all the backstory wikified and maybe pull a database downloadie thing as is described for the item database. This could help those of us who follow the storylines by 'straightening out' the facts.

Edited by: Sampanion on 02/08/2008 09:06:24 Edited by: Sampanion on 02/08/2008 09:05:53 It is a great idea, new players are always asking 'where's the manual?' and the more official documentation we have the better.
Moderation is important, and there's another problem I can't work out the solution for.
On wikipedia contributers reference their scores. They summerise and collate existing information and provide details on the source material.
On Grismars wiki, people submit their opinions, they do not have to reference case studies or official information sources - hence wikipedia is a collection of facts and Grismars is a collection of opinions and original theories derived by less-than-scientific analysis of individual experience.
Of course a lot of stuff on Grismars is right. But that really is the point - I feel it's right, but I am biased by my experience. On wikipedia you do not have right and wrong, you have reference to work done to establish fact, and the opinions are left to the reader.
So, if someone post on the official wiki "Always have the lowest charisma possible when creating a character" I'd hope it is moderated.
If someone posts "A CCP study into the SP development of 1000 characters over three years showed a distinctly slower progress in characters whose charisma was not minimal" and then linked to the study - that should be left in.
Note I'm not suggesting there ever was such a study, it's just an example of the objective way of presenting a fact.
So here is the problem I can't solve; where are the studies? Where is the information? What references would people quote? If someone believes that 'nano ships are most effective in pvp' where does he go to find the stats to check?
What do we have to post apart from a list of keys and opinions?

Hi,
The EVElopedia is in development, we are currently testing it internaly, so we have a bug free wiki for you. The current outlook for EVElopedia is to be in the english language. However there are plans to expand it into other languages aswell in the future.
I hope this answers some of your questions.
