i find it really stupid that carriers and motherships are only slightly larger then battleships. can they be increased in size with the next expansion?

If you make them too big, some fatherships won't like them anymore.

I'd like to see ship sizes reviewed actually across the board. The size gaps between classes should be bigger.

They are actually a lot bigger, check the size charts, its just on smaller objects/ships the camera will zoom in further. ---------------------------------

Yeap, I agree. And lpanets should be bigger too with some more interesting textures.

Small ships should maybe have more size separation. Cap ships being absurdly huge would be nice. Properly sized/textured planets is a major thing holding EVE back from looking like proper space. -

I had this thought recently as well. I thought it was a bit crap that we didn't have simply HUMUNGOUS planets that took up the entire screen down to the little guys that weren't much bigger than a moon.
Then I started to wonder if maybe they didn't do something with the warp in point... So I took a tour of a few systems and their planets.
Sure enough there are some big size differences out there between planets, however, your warp in point varies enough that the difference isn't that noticeable. Or at least not extreme enough to make you have a, "whoa, look at that!" moment.
So, yes and no. I agree that planets need some work in the textures department. But the size issue is a bit hidden by this warp in point difference. Amounts to the same thing, I suppose.

Nah.
They're sized appropriately. I mean they're already a pain to fly around at a pos anyway, why make them more of a pain?

Half the problem is that it's kind of hard to get scale in space, when everything we see is on a 2D screen. The current model sizes would feel a lot more acceptable given some stereoscopic love using those flash polarised glasses.
Point taken though, the model sizes could really do with looking at, stations even more than planets imo. I mean, when you look around them, half the 'internal' space is taken up by that entry corridor (on Caldari stations at least); where the heck am I actually parking my ship? ______________________________________

With regards to planet textures and scaling, X3 makes my loins quiver. Utterly jaw-dropping environments. CCP should take a leaf out of their book

I have those, but I never use them because they only work with my smaller screen.
But I tried them once anyway and yes it is awesome -

But I'll agree with the planet sizes thing. Many of the stations look as if they should be on stilts to the nearby celestials rather than in orbit.
the sig radius is already way bigger than what you see of the ship so increasing the viewed size fo the ship shouldnt make much different to moving around a pos.
well apart from being able to see when your about to hit something instead of just bouncing off it even though you seem to be a km+ away

Well, assembled battleships fit into those thingies. Looking at the size chart, I have a hard time believing this.

I checked this this morning as it happens, and the planets I tested were exactly as big as they said they were in their stats.

Flying up to the planets shows they're REALLY as big as they are.
The capitals could use some size upgrades, though. My Chimera is barely larger than a Hyperion battleship, yet can carry two of the damned things internally. And lets not even get into the Wyvern's ridiculous undersize.

hummm the iteron V really seems to be that long.... yes, moms, carriers and freighters could be bigger.
but then again... i believe it's psychological and the ICI's/brackets' fault. imagine capitals using up, like, two rows in overview with an accordingly-sized bracket... - putting the gist back into logistics |

I've flown an inty right to the surface of a planet and it still didn't seem that huge. It only almost covered the entire screen, leaving the corners of the screen still black space. ==================================================

You sure it wasn't a moon? Some of the moons in game are pretty small just a couple dozen kilometers in diameter.

Edited by: Aria Seniste on 14/07/2008 16:22:28 Heres the thing: It's all about perspective.
If you're flying fully zoomed in on your interceptor, and looking at a capital ship 20 km away, the capital will look small.
Now. Fly up to the capital. Zoom out. Watch your frigate turn into a single pixel / speck on the screen, as the capital remains enormous beside it.
It's the same thing with stations. They look tiny. Until you zoom out. And your ship dissapears. And the station is still huge.
The perspective is a bit disorienting when you realize these "too small" ships are being viewed from a distance of say.. 10-30 kilometers.
Most civilian aircraft fly at about 9000 meters. Can you even make out the details of a building from that height? A 100 story building seems tiny and insignificant. Now, triple that distance. And see how much smaller things look.
Were so used to 10 km being "close range" (and it looks close) that we start to miss how far away these other ships really are.
Edit: Wordfilters.
