What ever happened to the eve playing cards? Any info I find about it seems to be months old. I finally got to the point where I can afford to pickup a card game and play it, but everything I read about CCG says its dead.
Does anyone on these forums still play it? Also any devs reading this has ccp dropped the game? I noticed you still sell it but the last expansion was over 1 year ago.

i have a bunch. no one i know IRL has any but i made a few balanced slow decks and me + friends sometimes play using those just out of boredom and cause they're pretty and shiny
and cause the game is pretty fun as far as CCGs go. the mining / region control gameplay is surprisingly strategic.
but yeah, no comic-con presence, no expansions, no news... i blame white wolf :P - -

I blame the fact that most people would rather log into the game than play it with a deck of cards.

Bummer I was really looking forward to an active CCG maybe I will wait and see if it picks back up again Or maybe we can get a once in a million chance and some dev will see this and start the gears rolling

While that I bet that could be the truth there are many times where I have 10+ day skills training and I would enjoy playing the game while I wait for the skill to finish.

Honestly they should have an electronic version of the game that is playable in stations once Ambulation comes out :P

Lol that would be amazing. I can really see the poker craze taking off with something like that, but unfortantly I still like the feel of the cards in my hands. I will still hold some hope that the game will come back to life some day.

you know, i'm for it
i'm ok with buying decks in game for isk, but i'd even by ok with that cheesy "hunt rats of a specific type in hoping that they drop a card" gameplay mechanic cause i like that stuff.
i also like how destroyers are the uberpwn ships in the card game - -

We have a group of about a dozen who get together at the local games store (local = greater Sydney area) every couple of months for some games. We've listed the last couple of them in the Player gatherings forum area, but so far not had anyone else turn up :( I do agree that I would rather log in and play, but there is something to be said for getting a group of friends together in the one *real* room and chatting about Eve and anything else that takes us, while engaging in risk free PvP. Interestingly, the carebears amongst us tend to end up with uber blob decks, while the PvPers tend to go for the massive ISK generating decks.

I swore off playing the CCG around here--it was way too easy to break (as a system) with the cards as they were.

I'm guessing the CCG was probably a flop.
Releasing a CCG at the same time as a WoW CCG = bad choice. Also the CCG market is probably fairly competitive already, so unless you can get EVE players to play the CCG (probably not, doesn't seem like the same demographic) you will have a hard time getting the CCG to work.

so word i heard was that the CCG was part of the buyout of white wolf that was supposed to make it look like it's not a buyout and really a partnership, with white wolf bringing such amazing things to table like their CCG and table-top gaming knowledge.
and now that the dog and pony show is over, they're cutting their losses
which is sorta a shame cause it really was a cool game - -

Would actually make Ambulation worth having in the game
I got some of the cards, but no one to play - The game does look pretty cool, (which is why bought it - actually had strategy beyond deck building and praying.)
The ccg has it's own website (which is a bad thing publicity wise i thought.) but the forums there has basically come up with the Theory it's dead and not going to be revived. But CCP's silence is so the rest of the cards still for sale will slowly sell.

Thats not a bad idea actually it could be a fun treasure hunt.
Originally by: Havok Pierce I swore off playing the CCG around here--it was way too easy to break (as a system) with the cards as they were.
Please explain what do you mean it was easy to break?
I hope ccp isn't keeping quiet just so they can sell the rest of the cards before they say the game is dead. I think it might be possible to bring the game back. That being said though I have yet to play it so I could be wrong, but I don't see the point spending money on a game thats not supported.
Those of you who own the cards what do you say? Is it worth spending the money to buy the cards?

Everquest 2 currently does this with much success. The only issue with them is you have to pay real money for decks rather than ingame currency.

depends on your value of money and how much you like CCG games.
keep in mind that it's usually sold as boxes of boosters, and not individual boosts. - -

True I guess it all depends on the person but the ccp store does sell individual boosters. It will be interesting to see what this new expansion brings to the game but I serious doubt that they will have the card game in it.
Well after all these posts it sounds like I have to be in an area with a lot of eve players or at fanfest in order to find a large enough group to play.

I have about 1000 cards and 1 good caldari deck (if I could every play it right it would be awesome). I would show up to the magic night at my local game store (Craving for a Game in Surrey, BC) and explain the game to players between their matches. Then I came in one sunday as the owner offered to put it on his event Calender that they were having a EVE CCG Event, which I was, so I show up, some people sit down, I explain the game, we played and I managed to get 1 guy interested in playing, which was good. I'm more in it for the collecting, as I bought both Core set starters, all 4 starters for the expansion, and 2 boxes of boosters (1 of each). I was playing almost every week for several months until my friends GF fell ill then we didn't have much time to play anymore. I'm still wondering if there is going to be another expansion, I'd buy a box of boosters on principle, and the started. Must have more cards. -------------------------------------------------- Everyone is born right handed, only the great over come it.

Well, I've been trying to get them on Ebay. I actually have an idea for making my own card game, and I'm currently using my fraps to collect screenshots for them. Could anyone tell me what I need to do to download the test server, 'cause I've tried and it says I don't have EVE on my comp, despite the fact I do. I need that 'cause I need to get pics of the BS's and T2 ships, but I don't have the cash in my real game to do so. For those of you who want to get an idea of how it works, I just modified the Magic rules only I changed the names and made my own card symbols.

Look on the EVE Technology lab forums, there's a link to a tool that allows you to export ship models. This might be helpful for non-combat screenshots.

If you're new to the CCG and would like to learn how to play it you can go to www.eve-ccg.com
Mentioned on the website is information about a tool known as OCTGN which allows players of the CCG to play online with virtual cards . This does not require to you already own anything related to the CCG and is free to play . The application does almost nothing for you, just like would happen in a real game . You place the cards, you work out the events with your opponent . The application was developed to cater for almost every card game under the sun so does suffer in this respect . Follow the installation instructions you get when you download the EVE-CCG core and the Exiled expansion sets and you should be fine . Help may be found in IRC...
IRC users may find a channel devoted to the CCG on:
server: irc.coldfront.net channel: #eve-ccg
If you do not have an IRC client I would recommend using MIRC . OCTGN itself apparently does have a built in IRC client but I have never used it .

If not that, arcades in ambulation with EVE-ised versions of asteriods that you could play to get coins or tickets that you could exchange for basic stuff like ammo, trade goods, (Winner gets a gallante modified hovercar! ) or maybe at the highest a mining frigate.

Do you really need 1000 cards to make one good deck or did you just buy more because you wanted to?

In short, yes .
When you get the starter decks you are given a set of cards that make a game immediatelly playable against an opponant (since you get 2 decks, one for each immediately opposed races) . This is the best way to start playing .
From there you buy booster sets with extra cards and since they're all random you'd have to keep buying until you get all of the cards you need . It is a collectable game in exactly the same way other CCGs are .
The cards available to you drive your strategy, force you to adapt so you're always trying to find a way to beat the opponant with a deck you've built from what you have . This in turn drives you to continue to collect cards until you can build the perfect deck for your play style .
I bought 'The Great War' and then ended up buying 2 of the big red boxes while I was in iceland .

Actually I quite like the CCG game it's a pity it doesn't seem to have taken off because it had some nice concepts, specially the 'spatial awareness' required with the outer regions and stuff.
I still play from time to time with a couple friends. Minmatar is totally imbalanced though! ____

What do you mean minmatar is totally imbalanced? They have to much firepower or not enough isk producing ability?
If I was to buy the cards would it be worth buying the core set along with the exiled set? Or do most people use the expansion once they have it and just ignore the core set? I noticed there are 2 starter sets for the core series but 4 starters sets for the exiled series

The Minmatar have the ability to literally spam frigates very quickly, so if you're up against a Minmatar opponent this is what you can pretty much guarantee this is how they're going to play .
There are 2 starters for the core set, each one depicting the immediate feud between them . 'The Great War' for example is Gallente vs Caldari and is based upon the events in the timeline canon .
The 4 starters for the Exiled expansion are because there are 4 additional exiled factions to play .
You would choose each you wish to play out of preference, I'm Gallente by default . So I'd run with them regardless of their flaws versus others .
To my knowledge though, you can't play a game that does not have any cards from the core set . Your Veldspar has to come from somewhere ;3

So is it a pretty balanced game or does almost everyone play a minmatar deck? I noticed most people said it is a fun game but it also needs to be balanced. I have one friend I got into eve who wants to play, but I want to make sure it is a semi balanced game before I buy any cards.
