I played the eve 14day trial a while back in 2007 to see what it was like, and I thought it was fairly neat, but didn't get around to playing it much...
And I decided to buy it recently after the encouragement from a friend.. I have just bought my account, but I have two questions I could not find answers for in FAQ or Q&A
first off, I bought the 30 day subscription and it said game time, and I am confused as to dose that mean I can
- play all I possibly can in 30 days and at the end of the 30 days even if I only played for 10minutes I have to buy another 30 days or
- play over a longer period of time, and once my play time has reached a total of 30days I will have to repurchase my 30 day subscription
and
I have heard from a friend that to save myself endless hours of mining or other tedious tasks I should buy 'ISK' from one of the many sites that offer it..
my question is, Is this allowed in the game?
I've already scoped out some of the sites, and they offer up to 10,000 million ISK!?
any extra advice welcome thanks

you should read the EULA.
buying ISK is illegal. don't do it. GM's track the isk sellers, and punish the ones buying by taking their bought money. there is like a 99% success in finding out if you bought money. so really, don't.
the game time means you have 30 days to play the game for all you want. if you have a subscription, then after 30 days, it charges you again, unless you suspend your account (cancel subscription). you'll still be able to play the game till the 30 days are over.

well thats bad for me because i won't be playing very much, so hopfully I can get my moneys worth
and yeah, thats what I had heard...
would they suspend my account if I gave it a shot?
if not I think that I might give it a shot, because 10million ISK for 3.50$ USD sounds worth it, even if there is only 1% chance of it working...

Real life days, as in a month. Your account is active, regardless if you log in or not. Once the payment stops for the next month, account goes inactive. Accounts are not delted, you can resubscribe at any time.
Buying isk is not allowed. Bad things will happen if you are cought by eother the game masters or teh community. You can however purchase game time cards and sell them for isk, on thse forums special section.

it means you could get a negative bank balance. and you're completely screwed. buying isk to replace the lost money means they get you again, and you're double screwed. if it happenes to much, you'll probaly get a ban because then you broke the EULA.
it's probaly better you check out the gametimecards forums. you can buy timecards for rl money. and then sell them for isk in eve. in a sence it's ISK in exchange for rl money, but it's supported by CCP. (if you get scammed this way, then CCP will punish the scammer)

making money can be either very gratifying, or annoying. i myself hate the grind, but love the pvp side of the game. but i've friends that rather make the money then do the pvp side of things. it's all what you personally like. don't be restricted in what you want to do. set goals for yourself, and don't let anybody stop you from them (as long as they don't break the EULA). if you do this, you'll have a great eve experience. =) well, np. and gl to you ;) (and be carefull out there, there are some evil ppl there, i can know, i am one of them, lol =p)

It is, definitely. Also you'll go through the natural progression of ships and modules and won't be tempted to fit ridiculously expensive modules onto a ship you barely have skills to pilot in an overall fitting that makes little sense, and then give about half of them to pirates by taking it out into low-sec and assuming you'll be invincible.
It's extremely hard (I'd even go so far as to say impossible) to buy success in EVE, without having enough experience of the game to get your own out-of-game skills up (as opposed to the ones on the character sheet). Higher skillpoints and more expensive modules can give you a bit of an edge, but that means nothing if there isn't something for it to be an edge of (wooo, grammar). Personal aptitude counts for a hell of a lot in this game, and doing things conventionally will give you the best grounding in this area and make you a better player overall.
I reckon that in six months, you'll be a more effective player overall flying T1/T2 ships without buying ISK, than flying OMGsuperexpensive ships having bought ISK, simply because it will be very hard for you to learn anything doing the latter.
Not to mention that buying ISK is just bad for you, bad for the game and bad for actual people in real life too. Read the Dev blog on RMT for more details.
If you really feel the need to buy a little extra ISK, buy a GTC for real money and then sell it in game. But I wouldn't recommend this at least for your first few months, if at all - ISK is generally easy enough to come by if you're doing things right, so relying on GTC sales might be a symptom that your money-making activities in game are sub-optimal. (It arguably is worthwhile for those who have lots of money IRL, and don't get to play EVE much, so would rather skip the ISK grind by giving themselves an "allowance" of ISK every week/month so they can blow it all on PvP). Anyway, I play for free by buying these GTCs for ISK, so actually if you want to enter the other side of the market and help bring prices down through increased competition - be my guest.

Just to add: 10 mil isk is not even worth it. You will be able to make 10 mil isk easy in about 3-4 months. |

Yeah ten million ISK is a few minutes work once you're a couple months into the game. There's no way I'd pay $3.50 for ten million! If I really wanted a ship that I can't afford, I'd have to spend something like $350!

Firstly, it's good to see that you have more sense than your friend.
IMO there are plenty of ways to make money in EVE that there's probably something you can do that you will enjoy. Personally I find exploration really very entertaining simply because you have no idea what you're going into. If you're doing something and it feels repetitive/boring, then chances are you can spice it up by doing it with some corpmates.
Soloing, in my experience, is the quickest way to get bored with the game.

Well make sure the last hours before the account goes inactive set a skill that has a long completion time so you loose as little training time while the account is inactive. Try choosing a level 2 or higher skill to train level 5. That should probably give you about a 15 day train time at the one month age. A little cushion till you can get the cash to re-activate the account.
P.S. You read the guides in the stickies and read the New Citizens forum everyday you should be able to make 10 million in your first 1-2 weeks realatively easy one way or another.

Don't buy isk, its not worth getting banned, you will loose your account and the money you paid for both the account and the isk, run some missions and you will have isk in no time

Never buy isk online when u get caught u will be bankrupted to no ends it happened to a friend of mine be4 he found out about the GTC selling which btw is a legit way to make some quick isk buy a 30 GTC from one of the retailers and post a buy order in the appropriate forum and you can make a quick 200mil isk plus it is banable for buying Isk with real money also know as RMT (real money trading) so BIG NO NO!!!!!!! You can buy a GTC to continue to play or you can pay monthly by credit/debit.

3-4 months seems a lil excessive for 10mil iski don't ya think.... If you keep at it grinding missions and get ur stats up for a particular faction u can start running lvl 4s which I run all the time and you can make 10mil isk in an hr lol NPC Rat payouts and turning the mission in plus if u have the time salvage n loot sell the stuff /me shrugs

For the subscription, you can log on at any time during those 30 days. If you do not cancel it, it will auto-bill you again for the same duration of time. Once you are inactive, your character will still train whatever he's working on, still gather RP, your market orders will still be there, etc.
The only difference is you can't log on in-game.
Now for the ISK buying, you can purchase a GTC and sell it to another player via the Timecode forum. This is the ONLY allowed method to do it. Anything else thats not an official GTC vendor or any other websites you find on the net are against the EULA, and CCP will track and take away your ISK and you will face consequences.
In that forum, they should have stickies at the top of the board detailing the secure transaction polices. Lalala. |

The good thing about EvE is that your character progresses even while logged off. If you're going to be away from the game for a few days then set a long skill and you wont miss any training.
