I've noticed that (mostly in combat) the game will sometimes give me a slight stutter before going on again. I saw someone complain about this exact same problem in the Help channel a few days ago so I know I'm not the only one who has experienced it. I just recently upgraded my computer and the frame-skipping problem still occurs now using the Premium content just as it did when I was using the old engine, though it seems less frequent. My system has excellent ventilation so I know it's not overheating. Anyone know what the problem could be?
My previous system was:
ATI Radeon X800 2GHZ Athlon 64 1GB of RAM
Now I'm using
ATI Radeon HD 4850 2.5GHZ Athlon 64 2GB of DDR2 800

It still occurs with audio turned off.
But I've found something that is able to reproduce the frame-skip! There's something about the flame that begins to spout from my ship when I take hull damage that just seriously ****s up my computer. If I zoom out to where I can't see the flame or ship anymore (and I assume it's not being generated by the engine at that point), then zoom back in, the game will freeze for a whole five seconds at the point where I'm guessing it has to reload the flame-effect.
Perhaps that's why I only seem to experience this stuttering behavior in combat. Every time a ship begins to take hull damage and starts spouting that hull-damage-flame effect my computer must have a difficult time loading it for some reason, so it has a graphics hiccup.
Unchecking all the graphics options does not get rid of the hull-damage-flame effect for me and I don't know what else to do.
Can anyone help?

Edited by: Xertal Sceleris on 30/07/2008 11:42:45 Edited by: Xertal Sceleris on 30/07/2008 11:41:57 I have this same issue, and I have no idea what it is. Comp specs are:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 4GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2 800 RAM EVGA 680i mobo EVGA 8800 Ultra graphics card corsair 750w PSU
I get anywhere from 110-140fps, but my frames will randomly hitch too, and the hitching gets more frequent and more severe as I run the game longer. Restarting the computer resets this hitching, but restarting the game does not. I've tried updating as well as rolling back my GPU drivers, disabling sound, removing my sound card, updating sound drivers, reinstalling EVE, and trying new ram. None of this worked, heck I even formatted my HDD and installed vista x64. I don't have this issue in any other game whatsoever and it's really annoying. Nothing is overheating either, GPU runs at 69*C load, CPU runs at 53*C load.

I have the same issues here. The longer I run EVE the more "hiccups" I get. Restarting the game alone does not fix this issue, as the above poster said, but I have to reboot the computer to fix it.
Highend hardware and no overheating problems. Been monitoring this closely.
I hope CCP is ontop of this issue and will respond to us kindly.
Regards,
/Dar.

Strange. This problem (or something very similar) just started on my machine last night. I've been running two or three client simultaneously for several months now and haven't had any issues. No recent changes to my machine either (drivers, software, hardware, etc). I'm running an Intel system with an 8800GT. I'll continue to monitor to see if I can track down the source of the issue...

Edited by: Yargan Rasaan on 02/08/2008 16:50:15 Hi! I posted this a couple hours ago in the "make eve run faster/better" thread. This seems to be a quite similar thread. And I STRONGLY agree with Xertal!
Okay, I got the same prob as Xap. But it used to be okay. I had a break from Eve for about 2 month, so when I got back in, Empyrean Age just was out. I moved in the meantime (same city, still), so my guess is: a) this is provider-related problem b) it's some kind of issue related to the EA update (in combination with some certain hardware)
I recently reinstalled my whole system (Vista 32 Home Premium, AMD Dualcore Turion 64X2, 2GB Ram, Nvidia GeForce 8600 M 512 MB VRAM)because I thought it was just my OS being screwed up. But the problems continue: seconds of freezes, dodgy cursermovement, plainly bad performance. I tried playing at a friend's through his connection and the problems still remained. As mentioned before, it used to perform smoothly as a baby's bum about 3 month ago. With the same configuration, premium graphics full throttle and a basically srewed OS (it's Vista after all...).
So, if anyone has got any idea what this is all about, spread the news! Or even better, give a solution! Laughing
Btw, It seems I'm not the only one with that problem. There are a lot of similar complaints in the german forum aswell.
Cheers!
P.S.: My internet connection is a theoretically 15 Mbit. Should b sufficient, shouldn't it?

hmm, when i take hull damage the sprites are so numerous that they indeed drop the video performance to 10-15 FPS... i think it's the problem with hull damage...
i made my Vista work faster than XP by disabling all non critical processes, all optimizations and removing the paging file... need to see what negative consequences it might have

Edited by: Xertal Sceleris on 03/08/2008 02:28:56 This doesn't seem to be an issue related to anything I can pinpoint in the game. I guess if I had to pin it on one occurence it would be when I destroy an enemy ship, right as the explosion flash is going off, that seems to trigger the hitching every time, however it hitches everywhere else too, even in the station (and no, not when i'm browsing menus). So, here's a list of things that I and other people in the thread have tried that DID NOT fix the problem:
1. Reinstall the game 2. Try classic graphics 3. Install more RAM 4. Reinstall OS/format hard drive 5. Uninstall sound card 6. Uninstall, clean, and reinstall new and older graphics drivers 7. Flash the BIOS 8. Boost EVE's priority in the task manager. 9. Turn sound off 10. Trying a different network connection. 11. Reinstalling sound drivers.
Will add more as I test other things, working on finding the problem now.

Hi, n00b Eve player here. Playing EVE premium on a Mac Pro in WinXP. I have the same issue, EVE stuttering every now and again. It can't be the horsepower of the hardware, which is
2GB RAM Dual 2.8GHz Xeon Quadcore Geforce 8800GT 512MB Ram
I first thought the issue had to do with the nVidia card, but I switched off HDR in graphic settings and it improved a lot.
What I did notice,as someone said above, the problem gets worse with time. That could be, I think, one of a few issues: 1.Memory leak in the code, so the code just gets bigger and bigger and swaps out more and more. 2.Cache settings. I doubt this though because cache settings remai the same for the game, and shouldn't get worse with time. 3.Graphic card overheating. There was an article on Slashdot yesterday about Nvidia cards being badly assembled and failing or overheating. So this could be the problem, but it seems that ATi people have this too, or is it actually 2 issues and not just one?

I don't think it could be code problem. My corpmate doesn't encounter those problems. Although many people do. But not all. If it would be a problem with the code, all people should have this problem, right? I'm not sure though, don't know anything about code.
I cleared my cache and the first ten minutes the game performed well enough, but then it started all over again. Plus the first time I had been running Eve after a new installation the problem occurred too. And the cache couldn't have been full by then already.
Hm. Strange problem...

Also experiencing this problem. Hardware setup is as follows:
2GB ddr2 6400ram, 800 dualchannel GeForce 9800GX2 C2D E8400 @ 3,6ghz ASUS p5q motherboard
Someone said the problem gets worse the longer EVE is running, it's the opposite for me. This problem usually only occurs during the first 15 minutes of gameplay.

Hi, My english is not perfect and I'm not sure I've correctly understood your problem.
My problem: Since few days (2-3), the game became suddenly slow (he freeze), with an interval of a few seconds betwen two slowdowns.
Is it the same problem?
Restarting the game seems to fix the problem. I have not this problem on other games, and I didn't change anything on my computer (Software or Hardware) when the problem started.

From time to time the game freeze for a second. Am starting to getting used to it though, so its not that big of a problem, but it would be nice to get it removed if its possible.

Edited by: John Mindfield on 19/08/2008 16:25:37 I can reproduce this problem easily:
Open Skillwindow, then run circles with the mouse over some skills. A few sconds later the hiscups starts, affection mouse motion and sound. Last a sec maybe then all is ok only starting a few seconds later continuing circling the mouse. Disabling the sound, turning off premium content, changing cache...nothing helps. It seem that the speed of the mouse motion has an effect when the hiccups starts.
