1. I am a die hard PC user. 2. I have read the other threads regarding an iPhone app. They appear dated. 3. I just bought an iPhone 3G and am loving it.
So, now that there is an iPhone SDK, is there anyone actually developing an Eve Mon style app for the iPhone? Hell, I'd pay real money for it, or ISK.

No longer, Apple finally wised up and now has an SDK; though you have to own a Mac in order to use the SDK.

lol, say what you want. If you weren't an Apple hater or actually used one then you would feel differently. Owning this phone has literally changed my life. Try as you will, there is simply no phone with a screen that even closely compares ... oh, and 16GB storage is nice ... deal with it :P |

I too got a brand new iPhone 3G and it is awesome. The potential for an eve mon app is great. I also wish CCP would create a game portal in which you could check the market and chat with corp mates without actually having to go to a pc and log in. Would be sweet.

While that certainly would be nice, I'm afraid that would be lots of development effort for a very limited audience.

I'm even talking about an official app you upload to the marketplace. Charge money for it. There are already a ridiculous amount of crappy apps there, why not make one that's useful?

Nokia N95 > Anything domestic, including iPhone 3g
When he said welcome to 2005 he was right. The US cell phone market is ridiculously behind in regards to quality product. When Apple released the iPhone it was so popoular because they did a phenomenal job marketing and got a lot of publicity. That or wanting tethering for your mac is why anyone buys an iPhone, because if you just wanted the best phone out there you would have done some research and bought an unlocked phone from overseas on ebay....

Very niche market ... eve player with iPhone... Also not sure what CCP would think about that Basically they provide the datadumps atleast for non-commercial use only.

Installed the app on my google page. For the life of me I can't seem to get it to show up on my iPhone. Don't think it's the phone's issue. I think it's user error.
And this isn't an iPhone > || < all discussion, I am simply inquiring if anyone was considering making an app for it.
PS. Niche market some say ... 1 million iPhones were sold on the opening weekend in Canada. Guess that niche is growing. Yay Canada!

Could be there is an native iPhone app in development that didn't depend on some third-party web server. If so, a little real world money would be nice to cover the developer program fee and taking time away from other paying projects, maybe at the $4.99 level.
If there was such an app how much interest is there?

EViE is a web based application which requires a connection the server to function. I was thinking of an iPhone application that communicates directly with the Eve API and can keep training timers going even when a network connection isn't available.
Both approaches have their benefits. I'm just thinking of providing an alternative with a true iPhone app and for the Mac users possibly a desktop version as well.

I'm not exactly pleased with the choice of carriers for the US users of the iPhone but Sprint has been promising a lot over the years and I'm tired of waiting. I'll be joining the mass exodus from Sprint shortly. As long as the speeds are reasonable and the connection reliable I don't care anymore about the carrier. I mostly access web content through wifi anyway.
On a related note, the iPhone is about providing a great platform and if you haven't spent time with it or understand the architectural philosophies of OS X then I doubt I'll be able to convince of its benefits here. For those that are interested in OS X, both mobile and desktop, I'd like to provide some native EVE tools.

Actually While sprint is building the wimax system, they are building it in such a way, that me and some of my collegues think that they are actually building it to sell it. but ill soosh now

Well I could rather easily make one. But the following conditions would have to be met: Mac OSX Leopard Machine that can run said OS. Fee to post apps onto iTunes. Estimated time... 2 weeks
So all said and done. 100's of dollars for a system and setup to probably not make any money.
So yeah, that is why I didn't get onto the iPhone 2.0 SDK bandwagon. I'll get my 3G when I don't have to wait more then a few minutes in line.

If it changed your life that's not something to be proud of.
If you actually took time to look around, you'd have found better, just as you'd have found that the iPod was crap (and still is imo) compared to things out there that aren't marketed and trend-*****d to the gullible masses.

Ok, I tried that EviE browser app, and it just keeps telling me can't parse XML.
I have read all the valid points on why it might not be feasible for someone to create such an app, even though there are some players who are skilled enough to do so.
I also get that it would probably upset CCP to actually sell it for real money. That leaves ISK as the alternative, or a community app.
I really would prefer to see this develop into an actual iPhone 3G app, but unless someone is willing to donate the time, it doesn't appear there is enough interest from the Eve Online community as a whole.
Shame. I think it would really roc.

if you just want to check how much time left until current skill training just open safari go to www.eve-online.com and on the sidebar click "My character" log in and there you have it, your skill sheet...
if you want to plan your eve skill training on your mobile phone well...that's a tad pointless...and does nothing but to shout "I'M A NERD THAT PLAYS ONLINE SPACE COMPUTER GAMES " along with "LOOK AT MY PHONE I AM SO COOL" for the iPhone3G . no sig here |
