Well abit about me. I started Eve on a 14day trial about 14 days or so ago I guess. I tried a couple of different characters to get a feel for the general "trades" and stuck on a combat character. However I have quickly gone tired of the HighSec mission running, seems like most guys there are playing a single player game with a chatroom in the corner. So I decided to get a paid accound, and dwelve abit deeper into Eve, see what it's all about.
So the last couple of days, I went against my gut feeling and what most had been telling me, and ventured into LowSec in a Incursus, try to get used to the scanner, maybe get in a fight or two. First two days where slow. I laid low, tried learning to scan for other players, and even tried sneaking up on some at a safe distance, no fighting as of yet. But today I felt more brave, after flying around different LowSec systems, observing, praciting with my scanner, I decided to pick a fight. Was easy enough, scanned down another guy who was also looking for a fight it seemed. It didn't turn out good. His rockets damaged me badly before I could get close enough. And when I finally started blasting him, it was to late.
About an hour later, I had set up a new and "improved" Incursus, ready to go out again. I pick a system close to HighSec,jump in and warp to the closest planet. I start my scanner, only thing I see is a Buzzard, I check it's info. "Covert Ops, probably way out of my league" I think to myself. Then he dissapears of my scanner. Maybe a minute later, he pops up again, I track him to Asteroid Field. I think about it, and decide to have a go. But where did he go?! A scan or two later revealed him at a planet close by. I start the warp! Success, I warp in right ontop of him. Target lock, launch drone, warp jam, web, my blasters starts firing. I orbit closely, his shields starts dropping rapidly. Ha, he can't even hit me at this speed and range! Adrenaline starts rushing, I have him, I have him.. All of a sudden, my local flashes with the words "allright you win", I call back my drone and stop my blasters, still orbiting him at high speeds, I open up a conversation. Hands shaking, I quickly write down "10m within 30 seconds, or I finish this" he accepts. I try counting the seconds, but adrenaline is still flowing, I'm nervous, is he stalling for his friends to get here, does he have some trick up his sleeve, "Clock is ticking!" I tell him, fingers hovering over my blaster buttons. Seconds later my wallet flashes, 10 shiny millions, I warp off and wish him a good day before I close comms.
Now I think I found out what I want in Eve, no more running boring missions by myself for meager profits. LowSec is the life for me!

Sweetness with awesomesauce. This is what I've been trying to get into. I spent a bunch of time last night roaming around with an alt, looking for just such an encounter, but didn't have your luck. Or maybe, didn't have your guts. After reading this, I'll be trying that much harder at it. Thanks for posting, and power to the noobs!

Congratulations! I know the excitment you speak of, wise choice of targets. Convo me in game if your looking for a corporation to join. We welcome pilots that are risk takers, adventurers, and willing to fight. I would personally be interested in allowing you to operate in our corp.

Awesome story! Made me remember my first time and I even got the adrenaline rush flashback from reading this! ;)
Let me tell you something though... After I got my first real kill... I couldn't stop! That rush is very addictive!

Nice job... pinning down covops ships can be a real pain. I constantly am trying to do it but 95% of the pilots are smart enough to NOT warp to 0 at planets and only stay uncloaked for small periods of time.

Nice one mate! I can only imagine how bad it must have been for a covops pilot to be ransomed by a 14day newbi, great job! :)

Gratz man. I don't even bother trying to pin down covops since most of the pilots are careful enough to avoid getting deloaked or locked.
Very good story for such a young player.

I love these kind of stories, but my experiences have never worked out like the OP's...
When I was about 9, my grandfather took me golfing, handed me a 9 iron and a ball and set me up about 50 yards away from the hole...
"swish"...plop. In the hole on my first try. "Heh" , I thought this isnt that hard at all.
...27 years later, and I've never sunk another golf ball...ever.
I suspect my attempts at pirating will be the same..

TIPS
1) good covert ops have 2 gravity rigs fit--they help them scan
2) the ship is worth 8 mil
3) a sisters scan probe launcher is 30 mil
4) the cloaking device is 8 mil
When u ransom, u ransome for MAX isk--next time try 30 mil minimum. If u pop him and the sisters scan probe drops as loot, you make 30 mil isk.
NEXT, covert ops pilots MIGHT have sisters low grade virtue implants worth 2 billion isk. When you pop someones ship, there is LAG, and u can pop the pod.
If you popped that guys ship, THEN scramble the pod and start the ransom at 500mil isk. You might get lucky.
If they say NO, then start the ransom down at 100mil isk. If they have plus 4 implants, they will pay.
If not then go down to 30mil isk in case they have plus 3 implants. Good luck!

There's nothing quite like it in any other game is there . I've had times where I was shaking and found it difficult just to hit mods. You'll learn to control the complete freakouts more in time. Good job, and keep it up. _______________

Ohh! This gives back memories... the pure and ultimate rush of adrenaline...
Damn, you sir have just tasted the purest form of excitement that EVE has to offer. I am at the same time very jealous, and proud that you have had such experience, and also amazed of your courage and luck, to score such experience so fast into your journey to New eden.
When I was new to eve, I was basicly training mining and all kinds of *hitty skills that have not been used for a loooooong time (not that I have had time to play in long time tbh), if I would have had that kind of experience so fast, I wouldnt have NEVER trained em tbh.
Only thing I can say to you sir, is that: You have just started something wonderful that can lead to either 0.0 or to a corp which specializes in low sec piracy, both can be very enjoyable, but tbh, solo fighting is ALWAYS the most thrilling fight you will have. But be aware, its VERY dying breed these days. Blobbing has been a trend for year or so, and unfortunately I dont see it going away.
1vs1 fighting, that is what makes adrenaline go rampant, that is what makes your heart beat, that is what you will be longin after few years.
Be wise what you choose, as that is your future.

Actually I expected a whining thread telling how unfair this game was for new players. The more I was surprised to see a success story.
It seems you have a promising future. Keep fighting!

Welcome to the pirate club.
I always enjoy these stories as it reminds me of my first ventures into low sec piracy. Being an outlaw in low sec can be a hard life but it is the most fun you can find in EVE. Just fly smart, make friends, and you will do well for yourself.
Good luck.

I love it when the shakes arrive, people in the household look at me in a strange way, never expierianced anything like it, its a bit like you're about to get mowed down by a train.

NICE.

Note: Not just cov ops ships, but any ship with a cloak, is usually hard to pin down if the pilot is intelligent. =P

i'm alt!
Let me hijack your topic just for handing out example what Do NOT do, ever..
Ransoming and waiting for target to give iskies is very risky job, mainly coz he can get help.
My story: In empire, i engage one navy mega, he had like 1.2bil fittings onto its ship. I easily take him down to struct, try to ransom him, he says, just a sec, let me get money. I wait for 10 secs, start shooting again, he says give me 7 more secs..When i count to 7, there were his mates, bumping him back to station. He managed to dock in 10% struct..
Lesson: When u say 10 secs, mean it. If he says he must log in alt, thats his problem..
