Why canÆt i login on another computer to train skills for example at work, I can lock at my skills and the progress but canÆt switch skill. If CCP fix this then a lot of the nagging on this skill forum will stop.

well, easy answer is - it stops any one who has jumped into a camp or dodgy situation with a few mins left on the skill timer from being able to change his skills while not logged in -- BIG Lottery, BIG Deal, InEve, USERPROFILE

The real reason is that CCP wants you to LOG IN TO THE GAME AND PLAY!!! If you could change skills through external apps or the website, you could simply farm a character and never log in with it, until you needed to buy new skills...

You need to find out who in your organization looks after your firewall and buy them a big carton of beer... My work is very locked down in terms of what traffic is allowed, fortunately for me I look after the firewall

Wrong, CCP would MUCH rather you paid your monthly sub and never logged in, they still get the money, and none of the lag that player brings, at least thats how i would think of it!

I guess there are a lot of alts who don't see much online time - except for changing skills.

There would be people who just maxed out characters and then sold them off. Thanks but I'd rather make them play that out.

Yes because with how it currently works, nobody ever does this. How is someone logging in an alt once every few days/weeks/months just to change a skill "making them play it out". I'm not saying we should be able to change skills from the site, but youre just ignorant if you think nobody has alts they are training but never played.

A topic with a beard...
It's a statement made by CCP, and one not expected to be changed. I belief people have proposed physical threats during the FanFest, with no result.
People have been begging ever since 2003 and 5 years later there is still not even a hint of them changing their policy. And IMNSHO, a good thing... manage your skills just a tiny bit, and this whole changing from the website-crap wouldn't be needed.

Yes they did. And since they have yet to make out-of-game skilltraining available, I believe it to be the real reason. It makes sense to me, but maybe you, in your enlightened state of mind can tell me the reeeeeeal reason why it hasn't happened yet?

0001 Skill Queue Functionality
Noah (CCP) indicated CCPÆs awareness of the player frustrations with the ~6 hour duration skill trainings. However, CCP strongly believes that switching skill training is an activity that encourages players to log into the game and play. A skill queue would be a possible solution, if there would be limitations, such as a limited amount of skills being trained, or that only skills of a total up to a certain duration can be stacked into the queue.
Alex (CSM Bane Glorious) noted that players have also suggested a dual training mechanic, where players can pick a primary and secondary skill, which both train at half speed. As soon as the skill with the shortest duration is finished, the other skill will train at full speed.
It was concluded that CCP will look into a solution for this issue.
In addition, I think it would be reasonable that any such system wouldn't work if the account was inactive (not being paid for) and that only the current skill would finish training and then .. no more.

My enlightened state of mind has taught me not to believe everything I'm told, especially if I'm told by an entity that is known to mislead at times. ---- CCP, please implement a skill queue! |

Well, I know it hasn't come up yet but everyone is thinking it. If you could change skills from an outside source, what is stopping bot runners from setting up an outside program to change skills when one finishes and set up a queue of skills that only needs to be added to now and again. I think that is the real reason behind not allowing an outside app for skill changes rather than forcing players to play.

I think you hit the nail on the head. It would bypass CCP's strong stance against a skill queue if you could change skills from a browser, simply because they can't control what programs I use to look at their webpage. If you could change skills remotely, I imagine something similar to EVE Mon would be out in less than a month that did all the work for you.

Protip: If being away for extended periods from your game client, set a longer skill.
Example: I am currently unable to log in at this time (though I am on the forums), and I am training a 30+ day skill whilst I sort out stuff. Smart? Hell yes. -

Wrong, CCP would MUCH rather you log in regularly. They get the money, and have the assurance of getting more money since you're much less likely to get bored of the game or forget about it.

Load the client onto a 4GB flash drive. Bring it to work, talk to your friendly ISP geek and explain your dilemma.
More than likely he/she will understand, load the client onto some innocuous computer, and once in awile you can go switch your skill training quickly without anyone noticing.
Be sure to download patches onto your flashdrive, and update the work system as needed.

Easier solution - run the client FROM the flash drive. No need to install it at a work-computer. When there has been a patch, copy the client to the flashdrive again. Simple...

This... I'm never without eve as long as I got a hooked up comp. ----------------------- Why is it called common sense, when it's clearly very rare.
I had a mind once, but alas, I seem to have forgotten where I left it. |
