Fought my first solo battle against a Curse the other day with me in my 'Cane. I only have 10 mil sp's but 4 million of them are in gunnery with all skills either 4 or 5. I had a fitting of 6 T2 220mm's with barrage, 2 gyros and a tracking comp with script. I also had a passive tank with a 1600 plate. My problem was that I couldn't hit him (he was nano'd) and his drones killed me while he orbitted at 26km. I only have skills for T1 drones, btw.
What could I do to change that outcome in my favor? Or at least make him run?

try shooting his drones...... or not take on a T2 while only a few months old. did you check his age before engaging? And at that range he probably didn't have web on you. so you agressed him? you could have deagressed if at a station or gate. If your ratting, you might like to watch local and keep your scanner up so you see him coming in.
have a friend with you.

Also fly with MWD on in a straight line, you will (at least) minimise transversal, and (at most) possibly get him in web range, overloading helps lots for this (overloaded mwd and web )

26 km distance is quite far considering warp jam range.

1. Barrage = very bad due natural t2 resists, EXTREMELY bad vs amarr nano buffer shield tank
2. He has no way to protect his drones (75-100% of his damage), shoot them and he will disengage himself.
3. Overheat + web + mwd + cap booster is good for either running away or trying to catch him.

I guess alot of you have never fought a Curse before. Even with cap booster you will not have cap for most of the fight so using anything that requires it is hit and miss.
I engaged him on purpose in a belt and yes, he could scramble me at 26km and neut me.
I suppose the best advice would be to kill his drones so I'll have to figure out the best way to do that since they're moving way too fast for my guns.

If you engaged him, then you should pick better conditions of fight next time, i.e. try and get him to warp to you. Stay aligned, if he lands far - warp away, if not - overload mwd and web and enjoy nice t2 salvage.

-Web the drones for easier shooting. -Carry EWAR drones yourself (always a wise choice solo). -Hope he does not have a tracking disruptor (and skills to back it). -Recon V=~38km neut range. -If you were scrammed from >24km Curse was either overloading the disruptor or was faction-pimp.
Curse is probably tied with the Rapier for ships you don't want to engage on your own .
**EDIT**Web implies you actually have cap remaining to do so

Well a little more information would be nice, but first I would like to point out that 220mm ACs track well enough out of the box (with your skills included) so a tracking computer shouldn't have been needed. That been said did he have a tracking disrupter fitted because that would have screwed you over good and proper even with a tracking computer.
What were your other 3 mid slots then, I ask because since you were in a buffer tanked Hurricane if you had the bog standard but oh so versatile mwd, scram, web, cap booster it would have been a simple case of burning in a straight line webbing the drones chasing you and popping them all. Also as far as I am aware 220mm can just about track a nano curse with mwd on (don't quote me on that) so he would have been using range dampening meaning you would have no problems tearing through his drones with your guns + drones.
All that been said though, taking on a curse solo in a belt is never a good idea you're unlikely to get it into web range to kill it, the best you can do is pop his drones and hope he sulks off.
If you find yourself in a fair fight, something has gone wrong

You can use your drones to deal with his drones in that case. Keep them inside until you have a lock on one of his drones orbiting you, release your drones and have them kill 1 drone. Then pull your drones back in.
Between that and a couple missile launchers you might fend off the drone swarm--even if he is packing tracking disruptors.

This is sound advice. The curse's drone bay is large for a cruiser, but not infinite. And drones aren't cheap. Popping a bunch of them is sure to get a reaction.
Also, you must train up warrior IIs. ASAP.
Oh, and cap injectors are a curse's kryptonite.

Not being able to hit him probably had more to do with a tracking disruptor than being nanoed. He was using one, right?
And good luck killing his drones. If you start attacking his he'll probably sic them on yours. And his are bounsed, yours aren't. It's not a fight you'll win.
For the record, solo turret ships are the curse's dream target for 1v1.
And chances are he as multiple flights of drones. If you kill the first wave, he'll prolly deploy warrior IIs to kill yours, then go back to killing you with Hammerhead IIs.
And 26km sounds like a faction scram, if he invested that much in it, you were probably hosed as soon as he got a point. - Support fixing the UI|Suggest Jita fixes|Compact logs |

Im assuming you have missiles yeah?
Heres what you do, target his drones, web a single one and open up with your guns/drones/missiles, then once the first one is down pull in your drones and engage the next.
If he is still annoying you, swap to em damage missiles and hit him with them(because if hes using missiles of his own, this just levels the playing field).

Gank his drones, but beyond that, you won't kill him if he's smart.
If you could eliminate his DPS, you'd be stuck with no cap to maneuver around or web him, meaning that he can dictate range for as long as his setup allows. Pretty much a draw is your best bet.

- always keep in mind you cant dictate range or even mwd around, dont try it since you'll just play in his hands, save cap boosters you might have for tank if you're repping until his dps is gone
- your webber needs very low cap per cycle, it will work without booster on passive recharge
- his drones are the only dps most likely, if you have a flight of warrior IIs you're good, web the enemy drones engaging you and keep your drones in your web range always when sending them after his, if they're all gone you can try to go after him
- webber drones are not great imho since they're slow
- ecm drones arent that great on cane either since everything below 5x EC-600 is rather questionable against the curses sensors
- if in a belt, slowboat to the roids and make his maneuvering more risky, if at station approach it, same reason

A lot of people are suggesting you shoot his drones - and I will tell you that any smart Curse pilot will fit two turret distabalizers - once I notice someone is shooting my drones, I will switch both my TDs to tracking, at which point you will not be able to hit the medium drones. . . How can you improve your performance? I would say, you should try light ECM drones. . .
Overall you went up against the strongest solo ship in the game - the only ship that has a really good chance to kill a curse is the passive tanked Drake/Nighthawk - and even then its a very close call due to their low dps. ----
