I have started hoping that some new space mmo will come along and all the whiners and crybaby carebears will flee to that one so EVE can get back to being awesome again.

And what's wrong with that? As long as the game is fun everything is fine, isn't it?
Anyway their space backgrounds look way much better than EVE ones. And I also heard they plan to introduce bigger ships with turrets that can be controlled by other players, it should be fun. _________

Because the game's will: 1. Function by addicting you to character advancement instead of dynamic gameplay 2. Provide good PvE, but crappy PvP 3. Make it impossible for new players to compete against older players 4. Have a stagnant end-game where everyone flies the same high-end ship and fights the same raid boss which always requires the same tactics to remove it
If that's what people want to play, so be it. But it doesn't sound fun to me once the novelty wears off. ---------------- Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.83 (Updated 7/3) |

This, tbh. It's all about quality over quantity. Yet every time one of them comes to whine, it's "I'll quit, and take my 150 guildmates with me, and eve willdie!" -- this is my sig. |

Looks like they copied freelancer's control scheme, if its anything like freelancer but with many people in space it could be decent.
I wonder if there is any trading and production going on.

All I can say is...
They're really lucky that the concept is interesting enough on its own.
Because the half-******ed, terrible accented moron that was demonstrating it just completely turned me off.
I hope that guy has no other relation to the game except to sit next to a computer screen and play it.
I hope that all they were really trying to demonstrate is the fact that even a high school dropout with no ability to communicate or articulate concepts can play the game and have fun.
I love the idea, it doesn't look too terrible (not too much of a worrier about graphics, myself) and we could really use another space MMO.
It's unfortunate, however, that this shows very little in the way of economy, politics, social aspects, anything interesting besides the fact that you get to manually aim your guns.
Maybe they'll get into it more, or I just missed something. But all those really deep, intricate aspects of EVE that are so nerdy and appealing, and for the most part, draw a lot of the player base, aren't really seeming that important to them yet.
Definitely willing to give it a shot, though.

The similarities this game has with Eve are: is has spaceships. All other fundamentals are completely different, JG:E is just wow in space. What sets Eve apart (and makes it superior) to other MMOs is the sandbox aspect, and harsh death penalties.
What happens to your stuff when you die in JG:E?? I can haz it or not?

EVE and Jumpgate share about as much in common as WoW and Ultima Online.
I wonder if there is impact damage in jumpgate. Could make for some hysterical moments of big fights.
And by hysterical I mean "Wtf I'm lagging!. Omg a station! Turn, turn, turn, turn, oh shi-"

Crap or not, the one thing I truly liked that the dev pointed out and mentioned is that "if you miss, it's because YOU missed". EVE is a cool game, otherwise I wouldn't be paying for it (and have paid for it for the past 2.5 years), but I really don't like that any skill *I* might have is mostly irrelevant when it comes to shooting stuff in space.
I'm an old FreeSpace 1/2 player, and those were simply the best space sims I ever played back in the day, and I miss them. EVE is fun with the immense playing field and huge array of items you can use, but *I* want to pilot the ship. We shall see how this game turns out - maybe if it turns out to be enough of a success, CCP might take notice.

Looks okay I guess, manually flying is what you play Wing Commander for.
I think, in order to keep the game playable, they will have static limits on engagement sizes, kinda like an FPS server only allows X amount of players. And probably plenty of shards.
Too mainstream sounding. __________________________________________________

This looks like dog poo comparing to the original.
its like JG mixed with freelancer and lobotomised to suit beter the "wow" generation. down right to the candy colors and flashy stuff.
Concept that is grate for milking money from 'casual players' tards, so i will stay the frack away from it if it dont have unconsensual PVP like JGC had.
I will be realy, realy surprised if the Netdevil Dev team had the stones to do anything that even vagualy resembles the competetive envoirment of EVE. Since the auto assault flopped totally, i think they are going to ride on the repitation of the "old awesome" JG that had/have nearly suicidaly fanatic fanbase (many of them in EVE) to get some cash revenue and fill they pockets. Hopefully, before people realise that this is freelancer ripoff that got absolytly nothing that ENB(dead, haha)Freelancer/x3 hasent to offer and split back to WoW/EVE

So is this the main contender for the space mmo fans out there, apart from eve?
If so I forsee many more years of prosperity for ccp yet. As someone else mentioned, this appears like a wow in space. Obviously very basic as its in alpha, but overall I just dont like the look of it by that demo.
2/10 at this point, though it may improve.

Looks like a typical single player game really. Will this game have a single world without instances, a economy, ship building, invention and everything else Eve has?
I dont think this will be a threat to Eve at all. Its a completely different game it seems.

I had hoped for JG Evolution to be a decent game. But these videos just completely shattered my hope for that.
The fact that he repeatedly used "As you go trough the game" and kept talking about NPC's, just completely ruins the idea that this could be any decent.
Oh well, I won't have to split up my time between EVE and Jumpgate then.

Lol @ LAG online. I bet JG EVO didn't start as a python proof of concept demo which the devs made into a full game...
Also combat in this will be cool as you can actually see the ships you're shooting.

Edited by: Black Leather on 20/07/2008 07:16:56 Don't be afraid, little fanboys.
Competition is a good thing.
I hope this new game is successful for two reasons.
1) It may actually be a good game and worth a sub.
2) Only so many space sim junkies out there. If CCP wants to keep it's player base it will have to work a little harder at fixing the things that are important, like the ongoing lag issues, among others.
Either way it's a win/win for the people who play these games.
So stop trying to shoot it down before it's even out of alpha. It just makes you look pathetic

Looks like the main value of this game will be to link to when people ask for a PvE EvE server.
CONCORD provide consequences, not safety; only you can do that. |
