This has probably been answered umteen times, but I cannot find a threat touching on the subject. I am a newer miner, but I know my way around evemon and have come up with a plan to be in a hulk in three months. Now I know it is far off, but I was wondering if anyone had any experience being a lone miner in 0.0 space? Is it at all possible, or are you blown up on site? I've been looking on the map alot recently, checking out the pilots in space, ships destroyed, jumps, rats killed, etc. and have found a few places in 0.0 that are rarely traversed, but have crappy ores. Does anyone have any suggestions for what I can do to mine some higher end ores in nullsec space, given that I do not have access to 0.0 alliance space other then Venal (which isn't particularly plentiful in precious ores)??

My advice would be to get into a corp that is in an alliance and mine in the alliances space. If someone comes across you and you're not blue....then you'll be shot on sight.

It is fully possible to a low Miner in 0.0 Space. But, you will have to do some research before you fly your hulk out there. I have Mined with a hulk in 0.0 space with and without am alliance. Like the post before an alliance is recommended. But, if you Decided to go at it alone. I strongly suggest you dont. Here is what I did..
1) Find out if the people in the area have a No shoot Neuts Policy in effect.
Even with this in effect there is a chance they still will blow you up.
2) You can make Deals with Corps in 0.0 space. They will let you Mine all the ore you want for a Piece of your take.
3) Or Find you a spot in 0.0 space with no one in it and Mine. When someone shows up in space Warp to the Space station and wait till they leave.
But, remember this everything you do the moment you enter 0.0 space with out a alliance behind you. you have a 99.5% chance of having your Hulk destroyed..
just remember that

If you MUST mine in lowsec by yourself, then you must, above all else, be completely and utterly paranoid. If someone jumps into the system, warp to a station. Chances are very good that they're there to pirate someone like you, and a big, juicy miner is the perfect target for them.
I would highly suggest joining a 0.0 corp that owns space in the area. At the least, talk to a representative of the corp and ask him/her if you can mine there and give them a cut of the profit.

He's not talking about lowsec, he's talking 0.0. Nobody in their right mind mines in lowsec.
It's possible to solo mine in 0.0. Join one of the 'pets' renting space from an alliance. This gives you docking rights, a tiny bit of protection, access to regional intel channels and lots of blues in local.
If you pick an over-ratted system as your base you won't even have to tank 3xBS spawns. At least not for long =)

You can mine in 0.0 successfully without joining any 0.0 alliances or getting permission. The key here is stealth. Find a system with no one in it and fit a cloak so you can warp to a safe spot and cloak the instant anyone enters system. Rats can also be a problem. I am a relatively low skilled hulk pilot and I can't tank them at all. Thankfully you generally don't need to as you can simply avoid belts with rats in them. Rats move around so you need to remain warp aligned and at full speed but that's not a big deal really. Your primary threats are gate camps getting in and out of 0.0/low sec. Once setup in a system, if you are very paranoid you are fairly safe.
The biggest problem with this is profitability, I don't do it since it is more profitable per hour to sit around in high sec mining veldspar. It's also a lot safer. If you really want to do this however, don't take a hulk. Take a covetor, it's a lot cheaper to replace when you get ganked at a gate camp. A mining cruiser is also a good option. They lack the capacity of a barge but can fight off rats and are much quicker.

Few ways to do it.
1. Get a few like minded ppl together, join corp, or just be partners. Go out to semi good space that is somewhat close to empire and give it a try.
2. You are an ABSOLUTE loner and for whatever reason still play a Massive MULTIPLAYER Online game. Okay, you can try this.
Etherium Reach reach is right off the forge, it has some drone ores. Not particularly plentiful but most of the ones by empire are other in untraveled pockets or along routes that aren't used. Ore a plenty.
Great Wildlands if you go through the forge into Etherium reach or just go from Derelik within a few jumps are some semi good systems of ore. Mostly untouched for ore purposes.
Insmother/Cache despite all the RA power I don't know how many of them mine the 'semi-good' systems anymore. Their are semi good ores in back pockets that aren't mined by Ultima Ratio or The Free Trade Zone.
Vale of the Silent Not 100% sure on this one, the way in and out is usually camped to death and there are a few smaller alliances growing up there under Hydra's protection. With the war in the north it might be barren enough to make a few runs in and snatch some ore.
Everything else isn't really anywhere close or not perma camped by giant alliances like goons, the NC, BoB or the other pipes.
The thing is you can make more isk getting a ratting battleship snuck into GW or the back waters of a region nearby empire then you could trying to ninja mining. Ninja mining only really works with fully trained hulk pilots, a rorqual, a corp in place, a small tower and a very dedicated team. What your trying to do isn't unheard of, but in the form you want to do it solo mining won't be profitable to you.
Even if you get in, and for some reason honor tank your hulk to mine you'll only be able to hold maybe 4 to 6 cycles of ore. Now you have to get it back through to try to repeat it again.
All of this is wasted time where you could be mining in high sec and making more. I hate to agree with someone else but you'd be better off just joining a 0.0 corp that's already established and working with them and their mining operations. Anything else without a lot of coordination isn't presently possible without huge amounts of risk that I doubt you want to take on.
Good luck in your search, I actually do hope you find what you want. This game was a lot of fun when you could get a small gang of 2 battle cruisers with miner II's and a industrial out to the edge of 0.0 mine for a few minutes, fill it up, sneak back in and feel like you truly were 'robbing' the established 0.0 empires of the time or even the NPC rats themselves.
The game is a little to 'full' these days, even with 10,000 systems or whatever the vets will know what I mean.
Good luck Barin, hope you get to experience the good mining soon enough. Some recommendations for who to join. Hydra, Pure, Razor, IAC, The Free Trade Zone, one of the outpost holding entities of the GBC, Daisho, or even KIA. All hold space and have some decent corps in each that usually don't mind taking on new players.

I appreciate all of the help guys. I am just finding it difficult, in a rather pvp centric environment, to find a way of mining in a rather safe sense. I've seen a couple of places in the north that really aren't bothered with, but those systems have no good ores and very few belts...most likely the reason they're empty. I will take a look at the places mentioned in this thread and poke my head around in a covops, maybe spend a day sitting there to see if there is traffic. Thanks again guys!

The problem is just, it takes tooo much logistics to do it alone. Second: you cant beat the mining bonus you get from gang mods, when playing in industrial corps.

Im gonna say that no section of space is completely crappy anymore... not now that random plexes and grav belts can spawn just about anywhere....
Get yourself an alt or give your main the skills to scan out grav plexes. All the Arkanor and Bistot you can get your hands on.

Yep i agree with that, grave belts that are hidden are awesome. But a good place to come mine is also aridia plenty of dead end systems with decent mins. Some areas offer some good buy prices for minerals since miners are lacking in aridia. There are a couple chokehold points 2 in general to worry about heir and hophib once in awhile.

Over all as seen here you can find many alliances with good ores available to them. IAC has been around a pretty long time, and will probably be around for much longer.
Only thing you need to watch is what alliance you choose, and why. Most alliances goto war sooner or later and will want you to participate. Somthing to keep in mind.

Being a lone miner in 0.0 is not worth the trouble. You csn fill your hold with something and then try to haul it out but odds are you won't make very much. Many "empty" 0.0 detinations have no stations. Not even taking into concideration potential loss from preditors, it's not worth the time. Join a 0.0 corp; it's really the only way to make it pay.

Edited by: Suitonia on 08/08/2008 11:24:37 Providence, and the alliances that reside within it follow a NRDS policy. You can mine there and dock there for a small fee (small refining tax + docking fee). cva/sylph and residents will welcome you.
Just watch out for the local pirates ;) (You can check most of the hostile corporations by checking them with cva's KOS checker). http://www.cva-eve.org/kos/
Saying that though providence is mostly low truesec and one of the worst 0.0 regions in the game so don't expect to get rich off the ores there.
I'd take the IAC guy up on his offer if I were you, seems like a good option for you.

The only reason I mine in lowsec is if I find buy orders for minerals that make it worth it. Just this past week I found a buy order for 50 mil tritanium at double the market average in a .2 sec system. It was about 10 jumps out of the nearest high sec area, and I didn't feel like hauling trit, so I mined and sold in system.

I asked why all he said was "The pirate gang it's a false corp." its too late for him but we have to stop them! please get help!

Seriously, just join a corp. Even if you are a loner there are plenty of corps who don't mind if you do your own thing so long as they get a cut. And often that cut will be made up for by the fact you get mining bonus's, haulers, belts tanks, perfect refining etc from your corp mates.
Just post a recruiting thread or join the recruiting channel, say you want to mine in 0.0, have no intrest in pvp and are willing to pay a tax/do some corp opps to help out. You will be surprised how quickly you are snapped up.
They get their 10% or whatever and in return you get good ore, an early warning system (unless its a really sucky corp/alliance), and the possibility of gang bonus, people to haul/tank for you, refining services at any other benefits the corp might have. Who knows you may actually make freinds and stop being a loner.
This is the only real way to do it. Systems with good ores are generally busy in 0.0, if they aren't there will be a good reason (on a pipe used by hostiles gangs usually). Even if you find a system with good ore that isn't busy with people who will shoot you on sight, you will not be able to haul to a station to refine as even if there is a station you wont be able to dock. The majority of npc 0.0 and also nrdsi space like providence sucks for ore and you would be better off in hi sec. The only real way to do it is through xploration, but for that you need more training or another char, or freinds.

Right... find a space with nobody in it AND a station?
Have you even BEEN to 0.0?
Here's some better advice: If you want to make the big bucks and mine in 0.0 - stop being a loner and join a corp that lives in 0.0.
