And now we get to the last of the great leaders, Jamyl Sarum, wherein we find out her future plans and her love for mankind.
This is the last of the special-edition chronicles that gave you a look behind the scenes at the highest level of New Eden governments. From now on we're going back to the regular-issue ones, set in this new world of war and blood, although we may have some more surprises for you down the road.

Very nice chronicle!
Jamyl sure is in one of her "good moments" here... Will we ever see a chronicle with her in a bad mood?
Last thing - why there is no clickie-biggie picture of Her Divine Beauty?!?

Have to say this was for me the weakest in the series - which is not to say it was bad, as the series has been very good so far. But still, somehow I feel it gives us much less about Jamyl and the state of the Empire than the others have given of their respective persons and nationstates.
Nicely written, though, and I like how it shows Jamyl Sharum of all people professing to the Amarr belief that the Reclaiming and the religion is not just greed and politics, but something meant to for the good of the people. That there is certain (misguided) benevolence and some mercy in the Empress fits EVE: nothing is ever totally dark, and nothing is ever totally light.
(And there's no telepathy, thank gods. )

Assuming Her Highness, is a pod pilot - are the implants and plugs visible in a low cut suit and hidden under the hair?
How else can her timely re-appearance be explained, unless the Jove' are introducing new clone technology that reduces the need for implants and the like?
Life is about memories the more the better.

You should read the novel mate. Jamyl has a lot more to her than simple implants and primitive Jove technology :)

Thankfully not an "AMARR ARE TEH EVILZ" story, and actually quite inspiring. That being said, the Gallente are still the irritatingly good champions of all that is right so hopefully we'll get a story with Blaque killing that damn Intaki already and seizing power. Then we'd finally get some dark Gallente fluff going.

Gauti's cooking up some interesting things, and I have scientific articles that I need to edit and get out at some point. But on the whole you can expect the chronicles I write to remain exactly the same - narrative fiction - as they've been for nearly two years now.

You mean apart from the betrayal and violence, horrifying torture and projectile vomiting we've already established?

The implication is that she's going to do something to him, though whether that's death or merely brainwashing - Jamyl has certain powers - is left unresolved.

The only special power Lady Sarum holds is that of resurrection.
What a pity none of my agents ever got so close to Lady Sarum.
That would be the end of the zombie.

I'm not saying that narrative fiction is bad, in fact I quite like it. What I'm really asking for is narrative fiction that gives us greater understanding as to the actual way in which things work. Something like Kiss of the Soul for example keeps the narrative elements but manages to tell us something about the workings of the Privy Council.

This was again a nice read. The image of Jamyl was sort of a surprise though, or perhaps I am just too focussed on what the ingame avatars of Amarrian's usually look like. She looks simply beautiful and almost saint like.

"Of course not," she repeated. "I know you won't." The stars seemed cold and uncaring to Jetek, and his fate like a stuttering flame, soon extinguished.
I think, she did. ( Although she was in good mood... ) Maybe the guy heard too much.

Firstly, Wow! The portrait of Jamyl Sarum is stunning! Such a refreshing change from that withered old man she succeeds. It is total eye candy, and not too terribly removed from the avatar pic.
Second, well written as ever, Abraxas. Despite others' reservations I think it gave us a real peek at the mind of the Empress. She, apparently, truly beleives her motives are pure.
I have just one quibble, however. As an Empress, the proper form of address should be Her Imperial Majesty, not merely Her Highness. Unless, of course, she has not actually been coronated yet. I don't remember seeing a news release to that effect. The Theology Council has confirmed her as Empress-elect, but there has been no announcement of the coronation. -------------------------------

Very good article. And to most of the questions regarding Jamyl Sarum, please go read the novel. I realize that it is hard to get. I just bit the bullet and had one come from England to be delivered to the states. Oh Jamyl looks a bit differant than what I had orginally pictured her like. Yet still very beautiful. Good job as always CCP.

Great work, but I can't help but notice she knew the guy's name, despite the fact he never answered her question... at least, not as far as I could read.
My bet is either we have a plot-hole here, or more likely, considering the creator of this story, Sarum has some... skill. And I'll prob. get to know what that is spesificly in the novel. IF I ever read it...

I read the novel, unfortunately, and she comes over as a lot more in control of herself in this story. The novel's Jamyl is either ranting like a Marvel or DC supervillain or acting like a terrified girl. For the most part anyway. This portrayal seems to make more sense.
Can't see why she'd kill the crewman, unless someone feels a need to make her act like a B Movie bad person who kills flunkies to Make A Point, or because she's bored.

I'm reading the "projectile vomiting" story now so I can't quite comment on that, but even when there are traitors in the Federation it ends up being a rather lame, defensive "oh, I do hate being a monster but ultimately I'm doing it for the overall freedom and security of our people". Foiritan would be a villain if he didn't turn into a monster for the greater good (and the dude on the rack wasn't even the real deal, if it was an Amarrian story he'd be screaming during the whole conversation while some guy beat him with a holy book). I never understood that torture story, why would they waste resources on torturing the guy if they didn't want any info? They could've just killed him and marked up his corpse a bit. Unless it was implying that the Gallente government enjoys torture for the perverse joy of it which also doesn't make sense because the Senate/masses would shut down such inefficient and amoral practices rather quickly.
I'd recommend an aggressive change in Gallente domestic and foreign policy--namely a Blaque regime in which cultural and racial issues start coming to the forefront as well as a desire to aggressively expand their democracy in the name of peace. Perhaps various lobbies with lots of weath but dubious aims could also play a role in the 'darkening' of the Federation.

You can fight for the Republic/Feds even if you are Achura/Caldari. Nothing stopping you other than yourself.
---
I have always liked (as a part of the story) the Amarrian idea of "This is for the good of your immortal soul" as a motivation. The good Amarrian could care nothing about your place in this life and is more worried about the next one.
I found this one better than "Better Part of Valor" but it may be because it doesn't directly effect what I am doing.

This is something I find quite disturbing ... the slavers actually believing their own propaganda that slavery is beneficial to the slaves; very scary stuff.

For all who haven't read This.
It shed's one HUGE light on why the fact that Sarum bloodline being in control of the Empire is BAD. It will also offer a BIG suprise that is not very well known among the players of eve.
You will be wishing there were more of these by the end.
