Planning or grinding some level 3s until I can get in a Paladin/Nightmare and do some level 4s. My question is Zealot or Sacrilige - I'm set on one of these two ships, so no suggesting other ships or ship classes, please (I know they might not be the best ships for the job, but it's what I want to go with).
Possible setups - please pick apart if they're awful:)
ZEALOT - 5x HEavy Pulse II
10MN AB II 2x Cap Recharger II
MAR II 2x Rat Specific Hardners II 1x EANM II 1x Cap Flux II 2x Heat Sink II
2x CCC
SACRILIGE
5x HAM (can't use tech 2 any time soon)should hit to 20km
10MN AB II 2x Cap Rech II 1x Web II
1x MAR II 2x Rat Specific Hardners II 2x BCU II
1x Hydraulic 1x Rocket Fuel
So what do you reckon? Cheers

I'm training for those two ships too, but I always thought that for purely mission running purposes, it's more efficient to use longer range weapons (Beams for Zealot, Heavy Missiles for Sacrilege) rather than short range due to the inability to fit Micro Warpdrives in deadspace. It's going to be quite tedious chasing your enemies with an afterburner. Especially since with the tank there's little option to fit Tracking Enhancers.
I could very well be wrong, and would love to see what the experts say!

What Nai said.. you really don't want to change rats with an AB fitted in your sacrilege, go with the zealot, if you want to go HAC at all.

Well I could run this sort of set up:
ZEALOT
5x Heavy Beam II
1x Web II 2x Cap II
1x MAR II 2x Hardner II 1x EANM II 2x RCU II - needed for fitting 1x Heat Sink II
1x Energy Collision Accelerator 1x Energy Discharge Elutriation

Edited by: twelvea on 21/07/2008 21:35:38 Edited by: twelvea on 21/07/2008 21:35:04 I'm using a zealot right now with this fit for amarr level 3s
5x HP II (scorch/multifrequency)
1x republic fleet 10MN AB 2x CR II
1x MAR II 3x hardener II 3x amarr navy HS
works nicely, don't need to rep much, if at all.
i think you can use pure tech II with this fit also if you have a 5% CPU implant

I've used a sacrilege successfully for lvl 3 missions, though i did spend a fair bit of time ABing into HAM range. A far better choice, if you have the few extra skills is a Curse...
Seems wrong somehow to use such a beautiful ship for missions, but once in a while when i need a change of pace i run some level 4s against angels with a 4 x HL, 2 x BCU setup... seems almost as fast as my Maelstrom used to be, long ago.

You can get away with pulses on a Zealot due to the good speed, great optimal, optimal bonus and Scorch M. For the Sacrilege I'd stick to heavies though. Smaller explosion radius and affected by the skill, whereas HAMs are not.
For Angel or Gurista missions, I'd go with the Sacrilege. For Sansha and Blood, Zealot. Serpentis would be a tossup, I'd go with the Zealot just because I have greater laser skills than missiles, and the ammo's cheaper per shot.

I would suggest you use Focused Pulse/Beams. They work well in missions and don't require as much in fittings.
I used to use a Maller for lvl 3's with 5 focused pulse and an AB (ages ago). Worked like a charm as no rats would AB away from me. Only problem was the old republic stabber with their 30km AC's and high speed It wasn't impossible to kill them with Microwave (iirc), just took an age.

Zealot: Range, dps.
Sacri: Changeable damage types, better overall tank. Insane cap recharge, and... one of your cap rechargers is useless :) drop it for a painter or something.
Lets see... Sacri is good as you can fit a general omni tank and get away with tanking. Zealot is good because tank is not needed, its 500 dps or so speaks for itself. (like 350 with scorch)

as it's not been mentioned:
t2 jav HAMs are cheap (around 100 isk/unit) and extend your range to more than 70km. Sure, they cut your speed, but moving between javs and faction HAMs has allowed me to use the sacrilege a bit more effectively in the level 4 amarr missions against angels and guristas where my lasers simply don't cut it.
Since the cap recharge is so good on the sac, you can fit a target painter in the mids to help with the un-guided nature of HAMs.
Zealot with beams has seemed gimped to me in terms of fitting and dps, so I stick with pulse/scorch when flying that option. Compare auroras to t2 jav HAMs and see what you think about the tradeoffs, but ultimately the justification for the Sac will be its tank and ability to deal pure kinetic damage when necessary.
