All caldari ships are based on mythical creatures and birds... basicly only creatures that played a big role in the mythology of the north.
It¦s not just greek mythology, you will see that some names and even nicknames from devs come from the norse mythology.
I think it¦s pretty cool.

Edited by: Crae Matreki on 23/07/2008 11:35:06 Not exactly right.. each ship manufacturer has a theme to the naming of their ships, but it's not necessarily gods.
Minmatar: Blades and nasty weather Gallente: Mythological gods (mostly greek) Caldari: Birds Amarr: Hard to describe.. forms of religious punishment?
Tech 2 ships also have naming conventions, but they don't seem to stick to it so much.
Minmatar T2: Blades, Wanderers, 4 legged predators Gallente T2: More gods (varied mythology) Caldari T2: Birds of prey, Mythological beings Amarr T2: Religious punishment, Religious figures

Wiki says this:
Caldari Aesthetically, they lean towards asymmetrical geometric designs, and have a tendency to name their ships after animals, particularly birds. Some of the heavier hulls of the Caldari fleet are also named after mythological creatures, such as the Phoenix-class dreadnought, Chimera-class Carrier or the Leviathan Titan.
Gallente Aesthetically, they are more colourful than Caldari vessels, with the Gallente design ethos preferring smooth, curving lines that often give them a somewhat organic, asymmetrical appearance. Gallente ships are most often dull metallic colors ranging from silver through bronze to verdigris, and are sometimes named for mythical figures (Thanatos, Moros, Ishkur, Ishtar, Enyo), or are named in Latin (Thorax, Navitas, Incursus).
Amarr Aesthetically, the Amarr appear to borrow from Art Deco, with a tendency to the ornate, favouring curved golden hulls, often inscribed with iconography relating to the Amarrian religion. Symmetry is a common design element in vessels of Amarr construction. Amarr ship names are often associated with religious terms and names, such as the Armageddon, Apocalypse, and Paladin battleships, the Executioner and Inquisitor frigates, the Prophecy and Harbinger battlecruisers, along with the largest of all: the Avatar Titan.
Minmatar Ship names include animals (the Jaguar and Wolf assault ships), blade weapons (the Stiletto interceptor, the Scythe cruiser), names for winds (the Tempest battleship, the Cyclone battlecruiser), names of Norse mythological origin (the Hel mothership, the Ragnarok titan) and names one would associate with violence and destruction (the Rupture and Stabber cruisers).

Wyverns can symbolise envy, war, pestilence, and viciousness.[2]
However, they are common in heraldry. The wyverns' symbolism is nobler in this aspect. Wyverns have been depicted in heraldry on shields and banners for hundreds of years. They are a sign of strength to those who bear the symbol. They also symbolise power and endurance.

There's some outliers in there though.
The Ishkur and the Ishtar are both from Babylonian mythology.
Well, the Ishkur is named after me (I was here first) and I was named for Babylonian mythology. :)

Given that all Caldari capitals are named for mythological beasts and people, It's possible that they meant Rhea the person and not the Rhea, but equally given the penchant for naming them after birds, the latter could be possible as well.
At any rate, it's about as perfect a name for a Caldari ship that you can find.

Badger:: God of the flimsy, patron saint of the ganked.
Also...
The name badger is possibly derived from the French word blaireau being used in both senses. But more likely, the term comes from the French word bOcheur (digger), introduced during William the Conqueror's reign.

Amarrian Ships are named after religious figures, concepts, or law.
Amarrian Battleships: Armageddon- site where the final battle will be fought Apoc- end of the world. Abaddon- depends on who you ask, possibly the antichrist, or a level in hell.
BCs: harbinger- sign of what is to come, Prophecy- vision of the future.
Cruisers- Arby- basically, a judge.
Carriers-Aeon- age/forever/etc. Archon- ruler.
Titans- Avatar- likely named after the idea of a god inhabiting mortal flesh, making it his Avatar.
etc.

<sarcasm>Yes, most birds like ravens, drakes, ospreys, etc are Greek mythology and don't really exist.</sarcasm>
Most Gallente ships have Greek or Sumerian/Babylonian mythology-related names. The other three races, not so much.
Also, this is very, very, very, old news. Welcome to 3-4 years ago.
