You never know who is watching. I spent my time in eve helping when I could. Now that I've sold my characters and liquided my assets, Im wandering eve giving stuff to those whose helpfulness or generosity catch my attention. I have a little over 5 billion isk left to distribute. EVE has given me so much and after 3 years of playing I've had my fun and done everything I've wanted. I want to thank Ushra'Khan for the RP experience (you knew me as somebody else), Suddenly Ninjas for being so fantastic and it was awesome being there on the ground floor when this revolutionary core made salvaging not just viable but fun and famous!
See you out there, I hope I can help,
Griff Philips aka Helpful Sam

Someone posted a thread awhile back about how they'd lost a ship missioning or some shit and now had to grind for another 2 weeks to get it back, and for some strange reason I felt compelled to send'em some isk
felt good, even though it was a measly 15mil, still saved a noob some grinding (dosent change the fact I've ****ed off way more people than I helped tho )
But YAY for helpfulness -----------------

I've been burned in the past by helping people.
It happens. But I still keep helping people.
It brings warm feelings to me.
Now if only more people would be so generous, my path to world domination would be secured!

Edited by: Verlyn on 24/07/2008 04:13:14 I've been ratting for a corp that doesn't go under 45% tax and sometimes goes to 100%, and it's been like this for 2 weeks now. The ships I use aren't even mine, they're corp insured. It somehow feels better to be working under 100% tax, knowing you own absolutely nothing and giving all your time for a community. If I was to leave the corp, they would ask for all the ships and equipment back. It feels great.

Edited by: Verlyn on 24/07/2008 04:24:25 Dude keep your money, we would rather have had your help handed over to us at one of your worst financial position during your time in Eve. Right now accepting that money would feel dirty somehow, the fact you waited all that time doing whatever you wanted and now you find it as an excuse to generosity? Come on...
Am I missing something here or was this another sarcastic thread?

Edited by: Bai ZongTong on 24/07/2008 04:47:17 The other day I was baiting in a lowsec belt with a friend.
Saw a neut from a noob corp warp in and stayed in the belt for a good few minutes. We decided that he might be a bait so I started shooting.
Turns out he is actually new to the game... and had no idea what he was doing. Gave him 1M (much more than what he lost), and told him its a dangerous place to be in and be careful.
Ever since, whenever I see a guy from a noob corp jump into this lowsec system, I convo them and warn them about this place being dangerous...
EVE is a rough place. and many of us like it the rough way.
But keeping noobs out of the game is not an option.
We need him to be mature so we can have good fights in the future~ =D --- Want some YARRHHHS? The Revolutionary Guard Pirate Corp Looking for Members Uncensored KB |

I sometimes help newbs out in highsec with missions and such, or advice. Most of the time, I make sure to mention that not everyone will be helpful if they are a stranger, which seems to be the best advice I can give.
For me, i do it because it makes me feel good, and because even though EVE can kick your ass hard sometimes, it helps to know that you can find people who are not inclined to pod you.

Every so often I get the niceness bug and try to lend a hand to newbies and others. Way I see it is that when I first started I had a ton of questions I was asking people in newbie corp chat and the help channels, so it's only fair to the community that I play the other side now that I have the answers.
I've also hit up the newbie systems a few times (getting items I purchased or just really bored) and donated items to people who needed them. Recently gave out a bunch of named mining equipment and other stuff to some new guy who was all in to it and having fun but was a bit lost in it all. Figured I'd be nice and give them a push in the right direction and also give me a place to offload stuff I had no use for instead of rake in about 400k :P It meant way more to him than it did to me (think I gave him a complete implant set, even though he couldn't use it).
Being nice is fun sometimes (it's also a cheap way out of presents for friends - gave a buddy 20mil for his birthday once haha).

Sarcastic? dirty isk? you kidding me. I worked hard for this isk. Yeah I've done what ever I wanted in eve as does everybody. I've worked against myself and my habit of giving stuff away. This was my life in EVE. If you doubt me talk to suddenly ninjas CEO and ask how we met in EVE. Even when I had very little isk I gave it away. I used to run a chat channel called helpful sam dedicated to helping anyone who needed help. Get over your self-rightous attitude. I spent my entire time in eve doing this and now I'm going supernova with my attitude and giving it all away now. If you care to ask around, I used to be Smantha Dering.

The second week I was in Eve, I was just in my new shiny Bantam and staring at a freaking riod while my MinerI was slooooowly cycling through. I was starting to get an idea of what kind of slog the first few months would be like before I couldn't even think of buying any of that fancy Tech2 stuff the forums talked about. A HAC drops down on top of me and wants to convo. I figure I'm dead (though it was highsec, I still hadn't figured out all the rules). The HAC pilot was a Russian and he convo'ed me. Chatted a few minutes in rough english, gave me 30k and disappeared into the night. I used it to buy some half decent mining lasers and some skill books.
That 30k isk really was the difference between subscribing or going with HelloKitty (or someother game). Being a little nice to the noobs can go far. I still destroy their ships when they come into range - but I buy them a new kessie and give them some instructions on outfitting it.
All becuse of that mysterious stranger.

Your mysterious friend was a cheapskate. Not to thread crap, but whenever I give money to newbies, its in the 5-10mil range with words of advice on what they should be flying.

I have some Cyno alts and it is always fun to read the chats in these newbie corps. Reminds me the early days and how hard it was to get the first million. On a regular base I give away a few million to new starters in this game. Always feels good as for them 5 million is a lot of money and it is really helping them.
The opinions expressed herein are not necessarily those of my corps, not necessarily mine, and probably not necessary.

Sometimes I hang around starter systems targeting random noobs. When they get CONCORDED for firing on me I explain some of the game mechanics and give them a few million ISK.
I've recruited a few for my old corp this way and they turned out pretty good.
