Good evening.
Before I start, I'm running EvE on premium, with all graphic options maxed.
My problem is as follows: When rotating the camera 360 degrees horisontally around my ship, there is a "section", like 20 degrees, that gives me the weirdest FPS drop. I usually get like 150-200 FPS, but in these "zones" i get around 10. This problem occurs everywhere, even in warp.
I'm using a 9800gx2, intel core 2 duo @ 3,6ghz, and got 2gb ddr2-ram.
This rig is brand new, and was formatted the same day I installed eve, along with updated drivers for all my hardware. I did not have this problem on my old rig (duh).
Anyone?

Heh, would suck a bit if 10% of the all-round view was permanently disabled due to some weird techincal issue.
Also, daily bump.

Edited by: Keisern on 28/07/2008 17:01:00 Update: Formatted my rig to see if it'd help. Eve is now completely unplayable. I get crazy FPS drops, rotating camera or not. It even crashes sometimes. Lookit: Fps drop
disclaimer: all my drivers are updated.

What flavour of Windows? All updates applied? Defragmeted harddrive (doesn't sound right if you just formatted and did a new install though)?

I'm currently using windows XP pro, 32bit. As I said, all drivers and optional eve patches updated and installed.
Lobo: Not to be mean but I sorta hope you get the same error, that way I'll atleast know that my hardware isn't broken.

I meant Windows itself, updated to SP2 or SP3?

Other games are running like a dream, you can look forward to playing crysis on ultra high with 40+ fps (atleast at 1680x1050).

hey, in case you read this topic again...
i also have a brand new PC with this 9800 GX 2 card... same wierd FPS drops, 200... 200, then 40 when i rotate the camera
then i had FPS drop every 2 seconds, paired with nasty sound glitches... i updated cretive x-fi drivers and both the sound glitch and corresponding FPS drop were fixed.
it seems that Vita x 64 still can't address 4 GIG of RAM properly... memory used never goes above 3,12 GB for me
Vista is just plain stupid... current drivers are buggy for all major manufacturers, a lot of things designed for Vista do not work at all.
we can only wait for the release of a more reliable and less 'functional' operating system if you find out something let me know

Some earlier X-FI drivers did not work properly with machines with more than 4 Gb RAM installed. Should have been fixed.
I've got 8 Gb RAM in my rig, and I've never seen it using more than 3.5 Gb memory. But that doesn't say anything really, as Vista uses memory differently than XP
Have you your Vista patched to SP1 and additional patches from MS?
What drivers are not working for you?

I'm running a 9800GX2 with 4GB of 1033 Ram with vista 64bit and I get a horrible lag when I look at a cluster of ships, like almost to the point the client stops. I look at my memory and CPU usage and they never go above 30%. It's really bugging me since I can run actual "high-end" games without a hitch, but some how eve still destroys me. ___________________

I own an 9800 GX2 to, same problem here. Around 200 fps, but when you rotate the camera and look in certain directions the fps drops to around 10-20. Really irritating, seems to be fixed places it lags when you look at them. Sometimes a planet, sometimes nothing at all. Very strange issue Running it on Vista x64

Just a thought; maybe a bad vireframe of the ship model or some brushes or bitmaps (not sure about the correct term here) "leaking" or something?
Same problem with every ship tested with?

EVE doesn't like SLI, but the problem with a GX2 card is that there isn't a way (that I'm aware of) to disable to internal SLI link. |

It's just eve, doesn't matter what system configuration you run the fps dips like that afew times a min, always has, been happening to me for 3 years across every system i've run. Sometimes it works fine when you install it but eventually slips into this fps drop. Personally i think it's crap, then again eve doesn't support aa which i'm pretty sure i was using on every game back in 2004..
Btw when you say you didn't have i before, what was you're previous rig? ***The EVE servers and their patches*** |

Afraid my problem is a tad more severe than fps drops couple times per minute, it spikes from 10 to 200 every 2 seconds.
Previous rig (with no such problems):
amd 4200+ 2,2ghz dualcore geforce 8600gts 2gb ddr2 ram

Isn't the SLI or 9800GX2 the common culprit here? EVE hasn't the best working record on those setups. Don't know if it is a driver issue or crappy programming on CCP's behalf...

Don't think so, disabled SLI and then tried, still got the same crap. |

Edited by: Azzatu on 12/10/2008 17:19:05 I had a similar problem. My system is a Q9300, 4gb@800Mhz, 2x8800GTS. I was getting a lot of these horribly annoying drops in fps. However I decided to go into Nvidia Control Panel and mess around with the settings. Under "Manage 3D Settings" tab you should be able to find Eve.exe. With a bit of messing around I managed to force Eve to run with one GPU. Disabling SLI completely didn't help me - for some reason this forced single-gpu thing did.
Anyway, the morale of the story is don't buy new technology for an older game :/
Hope this helps.
Edit: Running on Vista 64bit.
