Continuing with the weekly publication of fiction material for your perusal, dear readers, we present you with Masks of Authority, a small look into the strange world of the Caldari mega-corporations' private police forces. Faithfully recorded by myself and illustrated by our skilled cadre of graphic designers, this humble primer will hopefully serve to deepen your knowledge of New Eden just a smidge.
Enjoy. |

I'd dearly love to see such informative entries alternate weekly with the story chronicles, it'd give both sides two weeks to work on their entry and keep up a steady flow of both inspirational and illuminating chronicles.
That and a better balance between the factions chronicle wise, I'd expect a 2:1 or even 3:1 favoritism towards the major empires but some of the "minor" factions get almost no love.
Again though: This and the recent political overview are pure awesomesauce, keep them coming.

Very nice, general info chrons are always good reads, just one thing poking me in the head though:
Originally by: Chronicle these eight private militaries collectively match the official Caldari Army in numbers and far exceed it in training.
We have the Caldari Navy, which is the smallest of the 4 empire navies but just as powerful as the others, possibly stronger (something to that effect in the info i think), especially due to the recent conscription.
On top of that, the corporate police forces are possibly stronger than the Navy due to both greater numbers and training? Good god, I figured the State was stronger than the Federation now but this chron makes it sound like in a straight up fight the Caldari State could take any one empire easily, and possibly fight two of them.

I like this chronicle.
It is good to know that there are entities within the state with power and major popular support besides Heth and his regime. Good to see some shades of gray on the color map again. ---------------- Mr. Science & Trade Institute

Interesting that the Caldari mega-corps security forces are more potent than the Caldari Navy. Also, that one lowly worker (Heth)could sway so many wealthy and affluent Caldaris to the point that he could rise to a position of incredible influence is also interesting. With that said, after reading this last installment of the Caldari saga, and the mega-corps coming to grips with Heths rise to power, I'm beginning to wonder if we are not seeing a shift in the Caldari power base, from a mega-corp run empire to a more centralized form of government. Whether it be a democracy form of government to a dictatorship, remains to be seen. And if this does happen, and Heth decides to "federalize" the mega-corps security forces, then all at once the Caldari Navy not only increases in size and scope, but its level of professionalism increases as well. I don't pretend to know everything about the ins and outs of New Eden Empire politics, it does, however, look like something more than we see is in play.

This. I pointed at the screen and made a noise that was halfway between a laugh and the sound of steam whistling out of an old-fashioned kettle.
Gotta love a good old-fashioned infodump. Keep 'em coming! -

It was nice to read some background info for the only mega corp I have significant standings and have worked with - Kaalakiota. But how does the info affect me as a pilot in EVE? How can I interact with the storyline? Will there be new missions involving this new background of events? ----------------------------------

Just two points, Is the Caldari Navy = Caldari Army or are they a seperate branch?
Also, I read this to mean that it's only if all 8 were banded together that they'd equal the Army in Numbers. Yes they're better trained than the Army, however I can't see all 8 willingly working side by side for any substantial length of time mostly due to past rivalries and conflicting interests of their Parent Corporations.
Besides, if they were all committed to the front lines, who'd be protecting the home systems?
